Gary Sherman McGhee

Gary Sherman McGhee, 74, of Ringgold went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at his home. 

He was born on March 3, 1948, in Chattanooga, Tn., to the late John and Dorothy McGhee. He was a 1972 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and a big supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide!). Gary served as a fire fighter for 36 years in Fort Oglethorpe community at Station 8 and Station 1. He was a member at the Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe for 40 years. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Louise McGhee and daughter, Nicolette J. McGhee.

Survivors include his son, Josh (Heather) McGhee; daughter, Gwen (Eric) Barnes; sisters, Kim (Byrnes) James, Kaye (Bobby) Hall, Carol Lockhart and JoAnn (Jim) Langdale; grandchildren, Rachel (Kyle) Stone, Lauren (Jay) Barksdale and Harper McGhee; great-grandchildren, Emma, Dylan and Delilah Stone, Ripley Barksdale and Luca Patel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and his caretakers his niece, Misty Bradshaw and his sister-in-law, Teresa Watkins for all their love and care.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at The Church of the Nativity. Family and friends will meet at Heritage Funeral Home an hour before the service at 2 p.m. to go to the church in procession for his last ride on the fire engine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
