DZVONIK, Dr. Michael James, Ph.D. age 48: died on October 2, 1994. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, he was a 20-year aerospace engineer with TRW; a member of the Sierra Club, Yucalpa and youth basketball coach. He graduated from Columbia University in 1973 with a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, having earned a M.S. degree from Columbia University in 1969 and a B.S. (Magna cum laude and Facility Award) from Tennessee State University in 1968. Dr. Dzvonik, a much-respected scientist who pioneered much of the early research in laser technology, he was noted in the field of lithium battery technology and his later work was key in developing our national defense strategy planning. He is survived by his son, Robin Dzvonik and daughter, Anna Dzvonik of Yucaipa; mother, Gladys Clarke of Chattanooga; father. John Dzvonik of Allen Park, Michigan; brothers, Dan Clarke and John Allan Dzvonik; sister, Julie Bond. Visitation will be from 10am to service time at 5pm, Saturday, October 8 at Emmeraon-Bartlett Memorial Chapel In Redlanda . Burial will be in Chattanooga.
