I loved my years at KTHS and was blessed to be chosen MR. KIRKMAN and class Valedictorian. I was most influenced by teachers, Edith Apperson, Emmett Apperson, and Louise Walton. Ralph Pennington was like a 2nd father to me.
I served from June 1967 - June 1971 with two tours of combat duty in South Vietnam. I was wounded at the Battle for Hue City, during the Tet Offensive, in February 1968. Spent 4 months in the hospital. Served as an Honor Escort for marines killed in action, escorting 26 fallen Marines to their home towns. Returned to Vietnam for a 13 month tour in 1970. Was honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-5.

I considered all my classmates as my friends, as well as many in the class of 1968.

Hey Cousin! The world has changed since we visited your home near Maryville several years ago now. I think you are living in the Dunlop area now? Faith passed away on October 21, 2023 from liver cancer. My house is supposed to close the end of October 2024, and I will be (plan to anyway) heading back to Chattanooga. Currently living Southeast of Spokane, WA. I hope you are doing well, Joe.
David is correct. This is NOT our Ronald Swafford, who is alive and well, living in Hawaii.
