I loved my years at KTHS and was blessed to be chosen MR. KIRKMAN and class Valedictorian. I was most influenced by teachers, Edith Apperson, Emmett Apperson, and Louise Walton. Ralph Pennington was like a 2nd father to me.
I served from June 1967 - June 1971 with two tours of combat duty in South Vietnam. I was wounded at the Battle for Hue City, during the Tet Offensive, in February 1968. Spent 4 months in the hospital. Served as an Honor Escort for marines killed in action, escorting 26 fallen Marines to their home towns. Returned to Vietnam for a 13 month tour in 1970. Was honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-5.
