Bob Pierpont, who was on Public Relations staff when we were students, posted the following on the Pennsylvania Military College Facebook page: "James Lees PMC '66 BS & '67 BA passed away at his home in Margate, NJ after a long illness and an infection he couldn't beat. May he rest in Peace and rise in Glory." Very sad news. Jim was a tremendous classmate and a real inspiration for the strength he mustered to be at the 50th Reunion. His and Ed Farrell's leadership gave rise to "The Kings Point Bell" that was presented to the PMC Museum. There was no obituary yet in the Press of Atlantic City as of this posting...
Rest in peace my friend and classmate. We first met in the infirmary at PMC over 55 years ago. We celebrated many good times at PMC, the Army stationed together at Fort Monmouth, ski trips with Patty and Lynn, ad visits to your parents' and your homes.
You were always a class act. We created many memories throughout the years. I will always remember you.
Patty will keep a special place in her heart for you. I know that she has solace for all your kindness and devotion. You passed too young.
I will miss him dearly. He pulled me through several classes after all-night study marathon sessions. And our after game struts around Atlantic City were priceless. What a great guy. Semper Fi, Jimbo
I just heard of Jim's passing. Mary Beth and I are on a cruise and currently anchored in the Gulf of Suez. Jim was my roomate, friend and one of the best supporters of the Class of '66. After graduation, Jim and I rented a VW bug and toured Europe for three weeks. My wife and I frequently visited the Lees home in Margate for the Miss America Pagent. I am in the ship's chorus and we give a concert on board. One of the songs on the program could have been Jim's theme song. It is the Sinatra favorite "I Did It My Way". Jim lived life - his way. So tonight as the sun set over Egypt, Mary Beth and I raised a toast to Jim and all that he accomplished. My he fly high over the hot desert sands to arrive at the Promised Land.
So sorry to hear of the passing of such a great classmate Jim Lees. I was aware that he was close to death and planned on visiting him on March 21st, however God had other plans. I echo Bill Symolon's comments about Jim pulling him through a couple courses as I was occasionally part of those late night study sessions with Bill & Jim. He was so smart, one of only a few with a double major. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good time. The entire class will always be eternally grateful to Jim & Ed Farrell for their unselfish devotion and generosity in making the Victory Bell presentation at the 50th Class of '66 Reunion a reality. The Best Class mourns one of the best of the Best Class. May God give him a special place in Heaven!
You guys are breaking my heart. I drove Jim crazy threatening to ring a fire alarm bell after we studied. He would bust my chops all night trying to remember the lessons. Finally, I would give up...and ring a bell. God Bless him for his friendship.
Great words and memories from John Lynch and Walt. Jim Lees was a solid citizen, a terrific classmate, and a tribute to our Corps of Cadets. Semper Fidelis.
