John "Fred" Hepler made a career of the United States Army and retired as a full Colonel. He served in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. Fred died in 2003 and is interred at the Fort Riley Post Cemetery, Fort Riley, Kansas.
I was Fred's XO at Foxtrot Company along with Lts. Chuck Nistico, Kevin Kissling and Steve Tochterman. He was a DMG and Captain of the Pershing Rifles "trick team". I remember him practicing hard for Q5's Boardwalk Bowl performance. I am told Q5
was outstanding. Making Full Colonel in the Army is an indication of his dedication; which he displayed in his years at PMC.
