Thanks for posting all the division pictures.  I had forgotten my division number.  Now I know its 671.  I was standing next to a couple of good friends, Mike Okubo and Charles Nasie.

Can anyone tell me who the teacher was in 671?  I think it was in a wood shop.

Still trying to make my shedule work for the reunion, and I do still have my Indian Head from woodshop and my senior button, the number was 600 something.

Happy and safe Labor Day to all.

Hi Frank!

You're right, woodshop teacher Kovacs was division 671.

Hope you can make it on the 24th!

Hello all,

So nice to see some more 76'ers join our forum. Looking forward to the tour and the reunion dinner. It will be interesting to hear the songs that will be played. I am looking forward to the end of the dinner, where I am sure a lot of us will be overserved and just before we part and get all emotional, the song "Feelings" by Morris Albert will be played and then it will be a cry-fest. *hehehe* Is it sad that I still know the words to that one?

"Feelings.....nothing more than feelings......trying to forget my.....feelings of love....."

Anyway, speaking of music, this brings to me those Talent shows we had in the auditorium. I remember the show one year where Rick Crom was the MC and also did a few songs. But the highlight of this particular talent show was Debbie Bailey (sister of David Bailey of our class of 76). She was just a freshman I believe at the time and she sang "Loving You" by Minnie Riperton, and when Debbie hit those high notes from the song, the whole place erupted into standing ovations. It was one of those "I was there to experience it" moments.

Also, didn't we have "Booster Shows" from time to time? Were those when they played movies in the auditorium for us? Please refresh my memory on those.

I almost feel like taking the Western bus to Lane for the tour, like I did when I was a student. Would the CTA charge us 30 cents again just for our reunion day? BTW, I think they are tearing down the overpass on Western by Belmont.

The Class of 1976 Yearbook Store is open for business!

Replacement yearbooks are now available for order for $26 each, (and can be delivered directly to you at the reunion).  Just click on "Yearbook Store" on the left hand menu panel of the website!

Michelle,

That is AWESOME! I used to have all 4 yearbooks, but thanks to my ex, they are now history. So I am very thankful for the chance to get them again.

If this doesn't get you in the mood for a reunion I don't know what will!  Check out this Chicago tourism film from 1977 for a weird trip back in time.

Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine... it's a long one!

Yes, it will be great to be getting replacement yearbooks again, but what I will miss most of all are those signatures that I received from those yearbooks from 73 to 76. A lot of you did sign my yearbooks and there were some very funny and heartfelt words along with those signatures. I also will miss those classmates that signed them that are no longer here. I would give anything to have my original yearbooks back.

I finally got my schedule set and I'm very much looking forward to attending the Tour and the Evening Festivities.  A stop at Hero's after the tour seems very fitting indeed.  I always seem to be able to make a stop at Hero's whenever I'm in Chicago.

One time I went in there a few years ago and one of the owners was working the counter and asked me if I had attended Lane.  I was really surprised she recognized me.  I guess it attests to how many times I used to frequent the place.

Did I see Greg Znyda say he was coming to the party?  Old Track Team member - I think pole vaulting is probably out of the question at this point in my life - looking forward to see you.

By the way - do you all remember when we were Sophomores, the Varsity Track & Field won State.  The Varsity Mile relay team held the National Record for quite some time as I remember.  Seems like at one time, all 4 members of the relay team where running the quarter mile in under 50 seconds each.  It was really fun to watch them compete and dominate.

See you all in a couple weeks

.

Frank!  So delighted to hear you were able to make your schedule work and that we'll see you in a couple weeks.  And hello to Patti O'Day too!

Ken Ortiz... I have some news for you too... all the 1975 yearbooks are gone my dear!  Plenty of inventory for 73, 74 and 76.  Probably because the Class of '75 had their reunion last October and they snatched them up!

Cheers all-

Michelle

Anyone online from the Architecture Program, Mr Piper?  I did not become an Architect, but a Structural Engineer. I now consult in a discipline of Chemical Engineering. My brother David Lee Jackson, LTHS Class of 1984, and ILLINOIS Alum 1988, did become an Architect.

Yes Frank, that was 1974, the 4 x 440 relay was Kevin Newell ('75), Dennis (DK) Kern ('74), Louis (Rig Master) Carr ('74), and Tim Klein ('74). From memory, 1 ran 47+ secs, three ran 48+ sec. Tim ran for Michigan State, Louis ran for Drake, the other two I am not sure, but I think Kevin ran for Kansas and DK for Southern. Dennis is a podiatrist. My sister (LTHS class of 75) sent me a photo of them last year. I will try to find it. Funny the elite high schoolers are running 44 and 45 for 400 m, which is right there amongst the best collegians and pros. There were two 18 year olds in Rio running the 400. Wow!!!!

Michelle,

Thanks for posting the Mile Relay Team picture, those gentlemen were amazing.

Keith,

If I remember correctly, you weren't too bad yourself.  I'm glad you mentioned "the Rig".  I've always had fun explaining to someone how we'd watch opponents race our guys and we could tell when one of the opponents went out too fast initially and would catch the Rig at some point in the race.

Frank, talking about the Fantastic Four, they were all at my wedding. Kevin Newell was one of the groomsmen, and Lewis Carr played piano while my wife walked down the aisle.

Come to think of it, the rest of my groomsmen were all Lane Alums.Greg Znajda (76) was my best man. Jay Swann (76) and my brother Andy Calvimontes (78) were the other groomsmen. And of course Michelle was there as well!
