I wish we would have remembered that. I think we should have a reenactment at the 45th reunion.

Don, as a member of the committee, I can tell you that we had a fair amount of push back on the distance this venue was from Lane and the cost. We hope to accommodate as many people as we can, even the contingent of nay-sayers who tried to put a negative spin on our committee. That said, I loved the venue we had and will be interested to see what others have to say. Thanks for your input.

At first I thought, a COUNTRY CLUB, blaahh.

But it had parking and turned out it was a really nice space, even though I didn't get out on the veranda.

I'll remember to bring whatever memorabilia I can find, next time, too.

Andrea, I thought the venue was perfect!  I only wish they would have opened the veranda doors earlier.  As for proximity to the school, that wasn't important to me and as for the cost, it wasn't much more than the cost 10 years ago at our 30th.  I was on that committee and we got push back on that one too.  You can't please everyone.

Hi All,

It was so fabulous to see you all. The committee did an incredible job and I can't say there was anyone who did not thoroughly enjoy themselves. The Class of '76 was a truly amazing class, brilliant! It brought my heart such joy to re-connect with friends from the past and to make some new friends! I wish there had been more time to speak with more of you. I can't wait to attend our 45th!

Wishing You All, Health, Happiness & Love ~ Georgette

I think everything about the reunion was great. I am surprised there was pushback. What issues were people not happy with?

I am assumming (bad to assume, I know) that John's Uncle:

Has been through the desert on a horse with no name, because it felt good to be out of the rain.

Yes, corny, I know cheeky

The venue was great and the distance was fine. I did think it was a little pricey. But, I'm used to Indianapolis prices. All in all, it was worth it and I had a GREAT time!

More people remembered me than I thought would. I dont know if that's a good thing or a bad thing! But, it was really fun!

Anyone coming to Indy? My wife is in Kenya and Malawi for two weeks! Home, then off to Haiti for a week!

The venue was perfect for this kind of event. Nice place, easy to get to and easy parking. Overall, a great day and the committee did a super job. Thanks to each of you.

Now that we know for sure what our graduation date actually was, I suggest we commit to holding an annual, infomal, and optional "meet up" on or around  June 1st each year.  2021 seems sooooo far away!

Andrea, you guys did a exceptional job and working on commities in the past, I know what you guys probably went through to get this done.  I posted the note to get the forum going again and it worked. I for one will be glad to assist if needed for some of the small details if necessary.(or larger ones if my time permits)

As for our class, I have run into about 43 Warriors as my adventures throughout the US and Europe(who'd have thought) from different classes and its always been clear who the Lanites were.  I hope I have made Lane proud of me but more improtantly I am proud of Lane.  Even interviewing for my current job, I was given the hiring priority because of connections from Lane.  Two of my boss's were from  the class of '72 and '75. We talked more about school after the connectiion was established than the job.  The job is going swimmingly as first two projects finished two days ahead of schedule.  In their minds, my engineering degree was great but the Lane Experience with Sol Lichtman and surviving his machine shop appears to be an indicator of great success.and tenacity.  For the record it was me who bowled against him Sophmore year at Waveland Bowl. There were more students there than spectators at a professional tournament.  Glad I didn't embarass myself and I feel some remorse for beating him the way I did. I did pay for in the classroom but thats another funny story. He never effected my grade , just put me in the racking crosshairs more than the average student. Anyone who had him knows what racking was.

I believe we need a story page so we could share some of these experiences other than the forum. I would love to hear everyones trip through the last forty if they care to express it.  And as far as the Ladies from Lane, there are no better in the world and have great memories to keep me going, even forty years later. GO LANE!

and to our neighbors to the east GO CUBS!

I'm playing catch up on a few things.

I'm not sure either what the issue was with the venue. Parking, access, food was all excellent. The staff was fine to our antics also. I was happy with it, although I do live in the city.

To comment on the Alice's response to #162 I think it was spelled Riesz. I found a "Congradulations to graduates" from an old yearbook and I'm sure it was the store.

If you do need a Lane "fix" the Clocktower club is a fun time. You never know what year(s) are there. Stay as long as you want or drop in and out. At the club meeting at the Hofbrauhaus I saw the lead singer in the german band meet his locker partner after 40+ years. It was cool!

OK, Michelle challenged me to post this. I did admit to her at the Clocktower Club that at the school tour it was the first time I ate at Hero's. My conscious is clear.

Michelle, thanks for getting the photos up.

Don Adams... I looked through the available template pages offered by Class Creator for a more robust story-telling vehicle but just got another version of this page so tell away here!  We still have quite a bit of space left.  The "What's New" message center is more abbreviated and conducive to back-and-forth chatting for those wanting more conversational communication, and I will leave the Facebook Page operational, which includes a few hold outs who never made the leap to any of the reunion events but still enjoy some level of connection.  (At least for a while)

Per Pearson... congratulations!  It's never too late to sample your first Hero's sandwich.  Glad the reunion provided you with the motivation to take the culinary leap!  Thanks too for the plug about Clocktower Club meet ups.  The Alumni Assn is kanoodling the idea of having one in Mesa during Spring Training in February or March... wouldn't that be fun?  In the meantime, check the website or Facebook pages for more local adventures.

Have a great week Bicentennials!

Adding my voice to those who thought the reunion dinner forum was just fine. There's a tradition in some circles that the people complaining should take on the laboring oar in the next round...

One thing I can comment on is that no matter how close or far the reunion dinner place is from the Lane Campus, traffic will still suck! It's just life driving in the city. I went to hang out at my Bro's place (by Kimball and Belmont) after the school tour and even though distance wise it was about a mile and a half, it took me over 30 minutes as Western is being chewed up, Belmont was suppossedly "road closed" at that intersection, even though there was a lane open which I saw after I crossed the intersection. Then when I got back on Belmont going west, the traffic was backed up at Elston with something (lots of flashing lights there) going on. so I diverted to Diversey using side roads to bypass that. Then the intersection of Belmont and Kimball is always a MESS!

Don't even get me started on the drive to the reunion dinner from Belmont and Kimball as no matter which route I chose, there was construction, back-ups, and most of all.......bad and inattentive drivers.  But it's Chicago! So I am used to it.

One thing that really stuck in my crawl though was when I was going up Milwaukee Ave to the reunion dinner and right before Pulaski, the lady in the car in front of me stops.....while the light was still green! Then I see her whip out her phone and start texting on it, and then the light turns yellow and then red! So I honk at her, and then she turns around to face me and gives me the bird! I was like....what? You stopped at the green light!

Did I miss the new law that says, you can stop on the road anytime if you need to pull out your phone and text on it?

How about some Lane memories!  Who had Saul Lichtman for machine shop or Mr Koppel for physics. For three years Saul called me Anderson. After completing my first degree I went back to see Lane and ultimately him. Found he was sick and talked the office into his home address. When I went there he asked " Mr Adams, what can I do for you?". Knew my name the whole time but was trying to get to me.  In Koppels class he taught us how to use a slide rule as calculators were new. Square and cubed roots were already on there and if you remember how to use it it would get you close enough. Working on a stress calculation early in career and the batteries in the calculator went out before the calcs were complete. To the amazement of my younger fellow engineers I pulled out my slide rule and log book. Finished the calcs needed before they could get to store and back with batteries. Of course they thought I was either an evil wizard or completely crazy and insisted on waiting to go over the math again. Numbers were right on. Thanks to Mr Koppel.

Don,

I had Mr Lichtman for machine shop also.  He was pretty tough  on me always giving me flack on how big my arms were.  He finally proposed to me that if I could beat him is a arm wrestling match he would increase my B to an A.  I got the A but it was one of my toughest matches.

That was his method I guess. He was a great bowler with a 208 avg. at the time. He would roll his spare ball on the aisle by courtyard windows into paper towels. He wasn't extending enough and I told him that. I'm sure the battle cry in his head became "let loose the dogs of war and let the racking begin!". anyway he asked if I bowled and I said yes. The challenge was on, the next day I was to meet him at waveland and get two alleys. He then called and made the arrangements himself. When I went there the tall skinny guy who threw governor walker out of the alley, asked if I was bowling Lichtman. I said yes and we talked awhile. He cut me a break and instead of Saul getting two alleys he was hot on we had two in the middle that would level the playing field evenly. Slowly the alley filled up. Seemed like everyone except Silber and ABC news was there to watch. First game I had five strikes to his four, when I asked him the proverbial questions all bowlers know not to ask. "Your throwing great, what foot you starting on?". He couldn't recover and cursed all my relatives living and dead. Of course I pulled back so not to get too far ahead because I felt bad for doing that. Not bad enough to loose, just bad enough to win a little. Of course it came back to the shop were he admitted I got him and the future rematch that never happened. A few weeks later is golfing pennies off the chalk ledges."Hey Anderson, know anything about golf?". "No sir", I replied. "Good, get to work!". I miss him like my dad some days.
