Joan Kertay

I taught Music at Montini Catholic High School for 7 years after leaving SBHS in 1981. I received my Masters Degree in Counseling (Northeastern IL University '87) and became a high school counselor. I retired from St Charles East High School in 2009. I currently work part-time at VonMaur (a department store) in Glenview, IL. I have the best job - I get paid for playing the piano! Great way to retire!

The best memories are the students at SBHS - these are by far the best people I have ever known! I loved the trips to the Macomb Christmas tournaments with Bob Carson, Tom Stiglic, and the basketball teams; Seefeldt, Austria with Sister Maria Terese and the chorus.
The least favorite...I will just leave that one alone but I am always grateful to Bob Carlson and Tom Stiglic for having my back!

In my career as an educator, my desire to make a difference in the lives of yourg people was the basis of what I did. I did not need fame or notoriety. I believed that what I was doing was making a difference. When I see my former students and I hear their stories, I realize t is like a pebble that was tossed in a pool of water - the ripples that one little pebble makes are endless! I am fortunate I chose to be an educator!
