Dr. John H. Baird, M.S., D.D.S., died October 14, 2013 at home after a period of illness. Dr. baird was born March 11,1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Harry H. and Ann M. Baird. He is surviied by his wife, Maryori, and by his daughters, Joycelyn Baird-Yoder and Stephanie Bair-Valk, who were born of his wife of 37 years, Catherine ( nee Holt ) who predeceased him in 2003. He is also survied by his brother, Ronald J. Baird and by his stepdaughters Maidy Lorena Marquez and Jerilyn Andrea Salazar, as well as 7 grandchildren. Until his retirement in 2002 Dr. Baird practiced Oral-Maxillofacial Surgerry with partner Dr. Merwin B. Rosen in Waukegan and Libertyville, Illinois. Dr. Baird was a graduate of Ohio State University School of Denistry. After graduation he served as a Lieutenant in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Navy at the Naval Station Great Lakes Waukegan, Illinois. After leaving the Navy, Dr. Baird earned a Masters Degree at Loyola University and completed his residency in Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola University in 1973. He then became a ppracting Board Certified Oral Surgeon and an Assistant Professor of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery t Loyola University until 1986. Dr. Baird had a passion for living life large. He loved big dogs , and he is missed by his English Mastiff, Dillon. He was well known in the Lake Michigan boating community, where he and his offshore racing boat " Firefox " were easily and audibly recognized in local harbors and poker runs. He had been a member of the Chicago and Waukegan Yacht Clubs, and he had served as Board Chairman of the Waukegan Yacht Club. Dr. Baird was also a maeksman who was interested in shooting sports. He was a member of the conservation Club of Kenosh County and the Racine County Line Rifle Club where he was a member of the board. His penchant for large caliber shooting often announced his presence on the range. Dr. Baird is loved and he will be missed by his family and friends and the many people who beneffited from his practice of medicine. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Seasons Hospice.
