Melvin Mankin

Melvin Ray Mankin, 66, of Portsmouth died 6;oo p.m. Sunday February 17, 2008 at his residnce unexpectedly. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday February 21,  2008 in Londonderry Cemetery with the Reverend Leonard Roop officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home

Melvin was born October 7, 1941 in Chillicothe to Robert D. Sr. and Evelyn R. Baker Mankin. Surviving are his mother, Evelyn Mankin of Kingston; sisters Barbara Havens of Waverly and Susan Detty of Chillicothe; brothers Donald R. ( Callie) Mankin of Waverly, Robert D, ( Shirley) Mankin and Michael G. ( Sue Ann) Mankin  both of Chillicothe; siser-in-law Jo Ellen Mankin of Chillicothe; special aunt, his mothers twin sister Eva Vickers of Chillicothe; many neices and nephews; several grandneices and grandnephews and special friends Dora Rinehart of Chillicothe and Cindy Newsome of Portsmouth. He was predeaceased by his father, Robert and brothers Steven and Keith Mankin.

Melvin was a 1960 graduate of Paint Valley High School and was an avid pool player.He retired following 20 years of service from the Industrial Commisions in Portsmouth where he had worked as a clerk.

Melvin was such a happy go lucky kid while we were in High School. He always had a smile or a laugh with you. I never knew him to have a down day. We lost Melvin when he was transferred to Paint Valley but to us he will always be a CHS Classmate Class of 1960.
