Harold L. Newton

Chillicothe - Harold L. "Newt" Newton, 79, of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly, February 12, 2022, at Adena Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 10, 1942, in Chillicothe, to the late Edward L. and Sylvia M. (Proper) Newton. On September 14, 1967, he married the former Ann Nusser, who survives.

Also surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law: Jackie (Dan) Moss, Amanda, OH, Karla (Tad) Hendershot, Chillicothe, and Sarah (Justin) Jenkins, Chillicothe; a grandson Cole Newton Van Horn; great-grandchildren: Ivanna Tackett and Esmay Van Horn; his sisters: Nancy Woods, Shirley (Butch) Warner and Helen (Rex) Schumaker, all of Chillicothe; his brother Howard (Vicki) Newton, of Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harold was a 1960 graduate of Chillicothe High School. He then worked with his Dad at New System Bakery before serving in the US Army Reserves 1001st as a baker at Ft. Knox. After returning, he and Ann bought the bakery from his father in 1967. They owned and operated it until their retirement in 2001, when Sarah took over the family business.

Harold was a Life-Member of the B.P.O.E., Lodge 52, for over fifty years and a member of the American Legion, Post 62. He loved to play cards, especially Bid 7-up and euchre. He also enjoyed messing around with his old cars and in his garden, and spending time with the grandkids.

His funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, February 16, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor Ron Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the funeral home, where an Elks Service will be held at 7:30pm Tuesday.
