John Tomlinson

John A.Tomlinson, age 66 died unexpectly Saturday October 18, 2008 from complications due to Cancer and a Heart Condition. Private graveside services conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at convenience of the family in Grandview Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 22nd in the Haller Funeral home. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 p.m and 6 to 8 p.m. at Haller Funral Home where an Elks service will be conducted at 6:p.m.

John was born February 9, 1942 in Chillicothe, Ohio , the son of John Davenport and Emma Brown Tomlinson, both of whom predeceased him.

He attended Chillicothe High School and graduated from Moses Brown School, Class of 1960. He graduated form Ohio State University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He returned to Chillicothe in 1966 and engaged in the family insurance business. He served as president of the Tomlinson Insurance Agency, Inc. from 1980 until 2005. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 52 and served as Exalted Ruler in 2005 following in a family tradition of his father and grandfather, both of whom served as Exalted Rulers of Lodge 52. He was also a member of the Scioto Lodge 6 F & AM , Aladdin Shriners, Ross County Shrine Club, Chillicothe Country Club,The Sunset Club, Rotary Club and the Zeta Chapter of Symposiarchs. He served his country in the U.S Marines and was a member of American Legion Post 62 and the AmVets No.4.

John is survived by his three children; Laura W. ( David) Bannister, John D. Tomlinson all of Cincinnati, Andrew L.( Meredith) Tomlinson of Chillicothe, three grandchildren; John A. Tomlinson II, Halle Bannister, and Nicholas D. Tomlinson; a special friend Susan Popadych and numerous cousins. John was a friendly, gregarious person who loved his family, his friends, golf, travel, bid sevenup, and his life long community of Chillicothe. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Episcopal Church of Chillicothe.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the charity of the donor's choice.

John had a saying. It goes like this " Life is not a journey to the grave with intention of arriving safely in the pretty and well preserved body, but rather to slid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming, " Wow! What a ride. "
John's sense of humor and warm smile will be missed by his classmates and all who knew him.
