Virgil Bub Easterday

Virgil Edward “Bub” Easterday, Jr., 81, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Monday, January 15, 2024 at the Adena Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.

He was born May 16, 1942 in Chillicothe, son of the late Virgil Edward and Imogene (Johnson) Easterday, Sr.

Surviving is his son, Eric (Armelia) Easterday; two beloved grandsons, Evan Scott Easterday and Aiden Johnson Easterday; his sister, Shirley Elliott; his previous wife and best friend, Starla Easterday; longtime close friends, Gary Renner and Skip Mount; as well as numerous other extended family members and close friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Candice Sue Easterday Pfeifer; a brother, Terry Easterday; and a brother-in-law, Harry Elliott.

Bub was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He went on to work for the Chillicothe Correctional Institute, working his way up through the ranks before retiring as a Unit Manager in 1996. He was known among his family and friends as an avid golfer and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He also loved being outdoors tending to his yard, mowing, and working in his flower beds. He also enjoyed visiting several of the local clubs such as the Elks, VFW, and AMVETS in the morning for coffee. He was also known to be the best dog dad to his beloved K-9 companion, Jake.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Haller Funeral Home from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Military graveside services will be held at Twin Township Cemetery at a future date.
