Richard Harris

Reverend Richard Lee Harris, of Columbus, Ohio , was 64 years old when he departed out of this earthly life and into his eternal rest on  Friday December 1,,2006 following an extended illness.

He was born August 5, 1942 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Albert and Dorothy Harris.

Richard graduated from Chillicothe High School, Class of 1960. From there he went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1965.

During his enlistment he met his loving  and devoted wife, JoAnn Greene. Out of this union was born two children, Stephanie and Spencer Harris.

He worked for the United States Post Office until his retirement in 1992. Richard became an Itinerant Elder of the African Methodist Church in 1988. He served with honor and dignity as the  Pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Zanesville, Ohio for ten years and St. Mark A.M.E. Church, Columbus, Ohio until his death. He served on numerous community and religious orginizations.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted loving wife and partner in ministry, JoAnn; his two chidren Stephanie (Fred ) Prince, of Bakersfield, California; Spencer ( Tonya) of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joan, Lee Ann, Zachary, and Braxton, of Bakersfield, California; Shautan, Noelle, Nigel and Nadiya of Columbus; two sisters Hazel ( William) Brandon of Chillicothe, and Eleanor of Columbus; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Archie and Earl Harris and his aunt, Dorothy Jean Worthy.

 

Friends may call Tuesday  December 5, 2-4 p.m.; the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.at the Chapel of Caliman Funeral Service, 700 Refugee Road, Columbus.

Richard's Homecoming Celebration will be Wednesday December 6th at Mt. Vernon Avenue A.M.E. Church, 1127 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Columbus, Ohio at 11 a.m. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of the Kobacker Hospice Center.
