Janie and I became friends in senior high and cemented our friendship by becoming roommates after graduation. We shared an apartment in Imperial Beach, right ON the beach, in 1967. We even dated Naval Aviators who were also roommates! We had so much fun. Janie was gorgeous, funny, kind, and generous. She never seemed to know how stunning she was...even tho people told her so quite often.
I moved to the Bay Area and married my aviator. Janie met Steve Lydon and knew he was her soul mate. They built a life together and had 2 sons. Janie's oldest son was a California Highway Patrolman and died in a tragic accident while working. Janie became an advocate for families who had lost a loved one while on duty for the CHP. Sadly, she and Steve also lost their youngest son. Through all of her sad experiences she maintained a sunny outlook and flashed that brilliant smile frequently.
Janie was a bright star we lost too soon. Lung cancer defeated her in 2010. She will always be in my heart and I will always love her and miss her.
I was able to make contact with her shortly before she passed away. It was fun to remember how she would always talk me into cutting her hair. I would cut it dry and she would really like it when she left my house. Then she washed it and she would be mad at me whenbecause she couldn't do anything with it. She would swear she wouldn't ever let me touch her hair again and she wouldn't --- until the next time.

It was at our 45th Reunion that Janie remined me that we've known each other since Harborside Elementary school.
There were a few us at the reunion that went to Harborside and someone took our photo. I haven't seen it yet.
I felt terrible when I read that we lost Janie. She was a Beautiful Lady.
