To all the classmates of C.V.H.S. class of 64 have a very happy Thanksgiving. This will be the first year Rosie and I haven't had her extended family over to our house. Her sisters have moved to Washington and her brother Mike died this last year. He was from H.T.H.S. class of 63. I hope this finds you in good health. Dennis Mason
I am also interested in the 70th birthday party get together. I would be willing to help with the set up if necessary. I like the idea of something casual, like the Friday night get together we had at the last venue. Hilltop just lost another of its 64 class mates, Jimmy Hitchcock. He was a really nice guy, who retired as a building inspector for Chula Vista. He died of cancer.
Would love to attend a 70th birthday celebration. Casual is great; hopefully somewhere that is not overwhelming loud and is easy to move around and visit. Please keep me posted!
I would love to go to the 70th birthday party. I have missed all the other reunions and really would like to reconnect after all these years. Any night would be fine with me and casual sounds good. If I can help in any way let me know.
Here is part of 3rd Avenue listing from a 1952 phone directory. There were Hancock listings but no Garfield. Apparently the Garfield came about a few years later:
Interesting to see some of the names here—I'd forgotten all about Wheeler Hubbard, for instance.
Tangential sidenote: The article mentions the band preparing to march in the Long Beach parade. Well, that was the November that JFK was assassinated, and the parade was canceled. I remember, because the news of the assassination was announced over the loudspeaker while we were in the CVHS band room practicing for the parade. And there's JFK right here in the images on this page . . .
Today is the 72nd anniversary of the D-Day Normandy invasion.
Apparently when President Roosevelt was thinking about making the speech announcing the invasion to the Nation, it was his daughter Anna who suggested he make the presentation as a prayer.
