Bobby died on October 2, 1967 as a result of a car accident, while attending BYU.  I'm trying to verify more information and will post when I'm sure.

I knew Bobby Turner many years before high school.  He was a happy guy and enjoyed life.  In high school, he ran track and cross-country and was on the Student Council.  In 1967, as I was leaving Army Basic Training, he was transferring to BYU from (I think) Southwestern College.  He was killed before he finished any classes at BYU.  His parents and sister were devastated.  Many years later, his Mother cried on my shoulder talking about her Bobby.  (She called me her "Other Bobby.")  Here's some information I found in a couple of newspapers:

Date: Friday, October 6, 1967

Paper: San Diego Union (San Diego, CA)

TURNER, Robert F.  Son of Mr. And Mrs. Lloyd A. Turner.  Brother of Sharon Lee Turner.      Services, Friday, 10:00 AM, LDS Chapel, 630 Corte Maria, Chula Vista.   Humphrey Chula Vista Mortuary

Date:  Wednesday, October 4, 1967

Paper:  Provo Daily Herald (Provo, UT)

"Crash Kills 'Y' Student, Injures Professor"

A BYU faculty member was in "fair" condition in the intensive care section of the Utah Valley Hospital today, with serious injuries from an accident in which his car and one driven by a BYU student were involved in a collision earlier this week, 43 miles north of Kanab, UT on U.S. Highway 89.  The BYU student, from Chula Vista California, was killed.

Boyd G. Pett, 39, 184 E. 2950 N., Provo, Electronics Instructor at BYU, is hospitalized.  Robert F. Turner, 21, a junior BYU student from Chula Vista, California, died Monday in a Kanab Hospital.

The crash occurred Sunday night.  Mr. Pett was transferred to Provo Tuesday from the Kanab Hospital.

Bob was a good friend that I knew early on in life.  I remember him letting me try driving his bug once (and only once).  We had a lot of hair raising rides in that car of his.  He was a lot of fun and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know and be a friend.  I was sorry that he left this life so soon.  I never thanked him for breing such a great guy.
