Happy birthday Jo Hope you and Betty had a great time touring old neighborhood
I, too, remember Jeannette. Her red hair and freckles (which I coveted). Her amiability. Her kindness. I only now begin to understand life, but death of people like Jeanette ... well ... unfathomable mystery.
Hello, Betty! I have waited more than 50 years to say, "Thank you!"
I was a foolish, befuddled, lonely, and isolated 7th grader at Schroder Jr. High who transferred into your 4th period math class, the LUNCHTIME class. Through a series of awkward circumstances, I had no one to eat lunch with. Absolute agony was my daily fate.
You saw my plight and invited me to join your group of kind-hearted girls, but I couldn't make myself walk over to your table. I JUST COULDN'T.
I look back across the years at my 7th grade self and cannot explain the immobility that led to daily suffering. However, your kindness shines through the years. I want you to know that I always remembered and never forgot.
With much appreciation, JoAnn Hague

Hi, Ruth. My fond memories of you go back to Pleasant Ridge Elementary School. Sometimes, I wonder what happened as we moved through the grades. Friends seemed to disappear even though we passed one another in the hall. I suppose that's the outcome of attending a huge high school. One blessing of age, though, is the compressing of time; elementary school claims equal status with high school. [And I am very grateful that this site allows me to tell you that I continue to remember you fondly.]
Hello, Marsha. Although we didn't know each other in school, I did know who you were (which is more than I can say about the majority of people who attended Woodward; we were ships passing one another in the fog). I thought I'd comment because I was struck by your NOW comments. You wrote that you lived in Xenia. We lived in Yellow Springs from 1970 to 1988 and know Xenia well. [I hope you weren't there during the tornado.] We now live in Beavercreek, which, as you know, is also near Xenia. And ... what a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren you have! Now that we are the grandparents of only 2 grandchildren, I know what an immense blessing they are. How very fortunate you are! Looking through the eyes of grandchildren puts life in perspective. This would also have been true when our children were young, but we were too busy to notice. Grandchildren give us a second chance.
