Any Taylor people out there that remember Miss Boggs-rumor had it that she pushed a kid down the stairs(great lawsuit today!) or Miss Leidner? My memory is that one day in her class I was walking past her desk and was looking at some papers on her desk and she TAPED my mouth shut-also remember how we all walked home for lunch? How strange that sounds today!!!

I remember Miss Boggs pushing someone down the stairs, but you never heard of it again.

I also remember walking home from school. By the time you got home you have 30 minutes to eat and then you had to walk back.........through the snow and sleet and ice......barefoot...miles and miles. Now you are locked into school and there is no way that you can go home for lunch.

Walking home for lunch...

Yes, and watching Capt. Penney at noon with Pooch Parade and Three Stooges shorts. There was an outcry at Oxford condemning Larry, Curly and Moe because too many kids were practicing head slaps and eye pokes on other kids during recess.

I do remember Capt Penny and Pooch parade. Did you know that Capt Penny committed suicide? Three Stooges are still shown on TV.

That is because you still hear ringing in your ears!

Yes, I had heard Capt. Penney (Ron Penfound) had committed suicide, but according to Wikipedia he died of lung cancer in Naples, FL in '74. So I don't know which is correct. Remember his sign-off?

"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool Mom. She's pretty nice and she's pretty smart. Do what Mom says, and you won't go far wrong."

And along with Mr. Jing-A-Ling we can't forget Barnaby and Woodrow the Woodsman. With all those characters plus Ghoulardi Cleveland local TV was pretty fertile ground in those days.

Misspent youth watching WAY too much TV and listening to '60s radio. But don't ask me about any stats for the Indians or the Browns or the Cavs. I haven't a clue.

I don't remember Miss. Boggs but I do remember our zany
homeroom teacher Mr Wheeler. Our Friday "treat", if we were good boys and girls, was to get to hear his piano
rendition of "Alley Cat". If we were really on his good side, we'd get to sing along to "Ragtime Cowboy Joe"!

If I remember correctly, we also got to go to Red Raider
Camp in sixth grade. Have great memories of laughing our
heads off after lights were off. David Horn, if you're
reading this, I'm sorry I got you into trouble that one
night!

My children have heard, "We walked uphill miles and miles in snow up to our thighs to go to school because school was so important".

Do I remember this right? There was a first bell at a quarter to the hour, second bell at five to the hour, and then the tardy bell on the hour?

I only remember one "snow day". When we were in sixth grade, I think, the temperature went down to -20/-22 degrees and the snow really was up to my thighs. (Our school system here had a "snow day" today for 2" snow.)

I think my sixth grade class with Mrs. Russo went to camp with Mr. Wheeler's class. Most of the other classes went in fifth grade.

Our Bluebird troop was on the Captain Penney show one lunchtime! What excitement for us!!!!
I also remember hearing that he died of cancer. I never heard about him committing suicide. But, suicide with cancer is not uncommon, either.

Bob, I remember Mr Wheeler vaguely-saw the class picture and it rang a bell! Anybody remember the gym teacher Miss Krebs-that creep injured me-i couldn't do the rings-you had to grab the rings and do a backwards somersault in the air and she pushed me over. OUCH! And she wore wrap-around skirts and anklets !!!

I remember Mr Wheeler and his piano, but I had Miss Shapiro as a homeroom teacher. She had the "hots" for Mr. Feldman. I must have had Mr Wheeler for a subject, because I remember him playing the piano and us singing along. Does anyone remember Mr Scott at Roosevelt? I remember him whacking your knuckles with a ruler and slapping the boys in the back of their heads.

Wow - reading all of the postings is really addictive - hello to everyone reading the forum. Val - I went to Canterbury and then to Wiley - I will check a box in the basement my mother gave me several years ago - probably has all of my elementary class pictures in it.

Watching the inauguration yesterday was so exciting - I wish Obama the best of luck - looking forward to his (our) dreams in the next few years.

Sorry I did not add a message earlier to everyone with a child/relative/friend serving in the military. I have never visited Israel, but I always watch the news and pray everyone is safe.

To all visiting Cleveland for the reunion - Geraci's is still exactly the same, except Mr. Geraci is not there in the evenings (dont's miss him at all). Mrs. Geraci is, and she is great. Bialy's, across the street,(Silsby/Warrensville) is the only place to buy good bagels now. Davis Bakery on Chagrin Blvd still has very good coconut bars, and they will pack them to travel. You can also visit Lax and Mandel at Cedar/Green and Unger's on Taylor Road. Does everyone know all of the Hough Bakery closed many years ago. Just not the same without . . .

To everyone living in a warm climate - the weather in Cleveland this year has been just horrible - it was just above zero (again) this morning, and we have so much snow on the ground, there is no place for the snow plow to go.

Got to get back to work - hope everyone has a great day.

Looking at your pics whatever happened to Bobby Kaleal and Frank Salamone? I knew both of them from Monty, and Maria's locker was close to mine in HS so Frank was always hanging out there. Are Frank and Maria still together? None of them have updated their profiles here.

Bonnie,
Of course I remember Mr. Scott at Roosevelt, He was amazing, rather hard to forget, along with Mr. Roach who taught 9th grade civics. I remember one time they staged a big fight between them and then asked the students to recall what happened. I also recall Mr. Roach playing with the window shades while we were taking a test so that they were all uneven by the time the test was over. Those two were some of my favorite teachers ever. Speaking of undesirable persons... anyone remember Miss Child or Mr. Cuthbert, both in 7th grade?

I do remember Mr Cuthbert and I understand that he taught at Hebrew Acedemy as well.

I have spurts of memories and reading the message boards help those memories come out.
