Sandy

I thought that Bonnie Zwick went to Heights. Log off and get some work done..or that bell is going to ring and you will be busted!

Hi Sandy...I don't know about any of them...I only had a few friends from Shaker...I couldn't stand most of them and mostly kept to myself hating every second...

Fran Thomas graduated from Heights. We were in a quartet together in the Choir.

I do remember Mr. Scott who was one of my favorite teachers...and Mr. Roach, and Mr. Yanick and Mr. Smith. (and Miss Dick...argh!!! and Miss Parker). Does anyone else remember Mrs. Shallcross who taught English?

Greetings everyone from the Great Southwest Desert!

Today was a bit cloudy, but yesterday, blue skies, sunshine and 77 degrees. We love Tucson...would not live anywhere else. Hopefully, the weather will be perfect for this Saturday. We are having an engagement brunch for our son and fiance at our home. I have been cooking and baking for weeks. If we survive the wedding in October and can get a good price on airfare, would love to go to the reunion.
This website is very addictive. I remember school being closed for snow days. My sister & I would watch the morning weather report for school closings, then go outside and play in the snow. Now, I get cold if it goes below 70 degrees!

the weather will be perfect here on saturday if you like 17 and snow

Was Fran Thomas' father the minister at the church on the corner of wash and lee?

Bob, that is so funny about Red Raider camp in 6th Grade. I did get in BIG trouble that night and had to stand in the shower with my chin perched in the soap dish. (I wonder if that could take place today) Do you remember what happened and the reason that I got in trouble? I do remember people laughing and chanting "Come out, come out wherever you are"...I'm still haunted to this day!

Hello All...

Boy is this site addictive... As I go on through the years, I seem to appreciate more and more the quality of both the people and the education I so took for granted back then.

As I look out of my office in Berea, Oh... (Anyone been to the Cuyahoga County fair?) There is about 18 inches of accumulated snow and the temp is in the mid 20's. Perfect day to run the dogs!

By the way... I seem to remember it was Capt. Penny's wife who committed suicide... (jumped off a bridge?) and the Capt. died from lung cancer

On that happy note!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in October!

Yes, Miss Shallcross was the best English teacher I ever had! Anyone else beside Shelley remember her? Whenever I hear Animal Farm mentioned, I think of her. She also taught me more grammar than I ever learned in AP English in High School!

Shelley Hornik (Lloyd)

Didn't we watch the movie Great Expectations in Miss Shallcross's class? I agree...she was wonderful. To be honest, I don't really remember much about English at Heights. I remember Miss Shallcross because she was good...and Miss Parker because she was NOT (sorry Charles...she was NOT a good teacher).

I agree with Scott P. This site is very addicting. I do think it should be a RULE that folks cannot delete their yearbook picture on their profile.

I do want to get to this reunion. My theory is that ten years from now, I won't care.

Anne Gutow (Chapman)

Yes from another addict ...
I also remember loving Miss Shallcross.
She and my mother were sorority sisters. I was hoping to get some perks from that, but didn't. Oh well!

Does anyone else remember Mr. Scott's stuffed pheasant Chanteclear?
Or "B-squared, C, G-squared"?
(Becker, Borovitz, Clark, Gordon, Gutow, if I recall correctly)
We had a "special" row. He said we were "special needs kids".
Does anyone know what happened to Rosalie Gordon? What about Susie Clark?

I had forgotten about Mrs. Krebs!
Mrs. Martin at Heights went on to get her PhD in a P.E.-related field.

Anne

I do remember the special rows in Mr Scotts' class. I was an H person, so I was not as special.

I believe that Rosalie Gordon lives in Miami FL. What ever happened to Marc Pines,Gary Bryan and Eddie Becker?

01/22/09 09:12 PM #322

Anne Gutow (Chapman)

Yes, I think we had to be extraordinarily obnoxious to be considered "special". Poor Mr. Scott.
I don't know where Marc, Gary, or Eddie are.

I don't remember the "rows" in Mr. Scott's class? Was I in one??

I do remember Chanticler. I just recently came across a brass protractor that Mr. Scott gave me as a gift when I left Roosevelt. He made me believe I was a great Math student. Miss Hunting, at Heights, did a great job of convincing me that math was something I could NOT do.

Does anyone remember Miss Hunting? I remember Harvey Garn looking at my schedule once and saying "gee...I didn't know they had hunting." She spent more time adjusting her bra strap than teaching math. She was just an awful teacher...awful. I begged that Dr. Bell to switch me to a different Algebra II class (having endured Miss Hunting for geometry, I felt I deserved a break). I got that ridiculous line "you're going to meet lots of people who you don't get along with". So...I dropped the class. Why were they so stubborn back then? Did they (or anyone else) really think someone should have Miss Hunting for TWO years of math???

David,

Glad you saw my note...I do remember what got you in trouble. We were bunk mates. I had the top bunk & you were down below. When the counselor in charge called for "Lights out", everyone was supposed to shut up and go to sleep. As one of the taller kids in school, I had
pretty long arms. I reached over the side of those all
metal rusted bunks & started to tickle you & jab at you
in good fun. You tried to get back at me but your timing was bad. Bingo...the counselor banished you to the bathroom. Then the rest of the room got into it. You
ended up sitting in that room for quite a while. I owe
you one! You also took some fairly heavy pillow hits
that night. Great memories of being a kid.

Naw,
Susie graduated with us.
Her brother David was a year older than us. He is the one who went to Phillips Exeter Academy (with President Eisenhower's grandson).

Shelley Hornik (Lloyd)

That's it...David went to Philips Exeter. So what DID happen to Susie???

FYI:
My son Jonathan arrived home tonight from his Taglit Birthright bicycle tour around Israel. (He stopped off in DC for the inauguration on the way back home.)
He's very excited about how wonderful the trip was. Meanwhile, he's dismayed that Birthright is being threatened by lack of funding. He didn't feel that his tour lost anything because of the war.
He reported that for their 36-member tour, plus the tour guide and the bus driver, they had 7 IDF soldiers guarding them throughout.

aaaaauuughhh! I forgot all about Miss Hunting! She's the reason I never went beyond Algebra II, not allowed today. I had such good math teachers before her, she was such a disappointment. Who was the swim coach who taught my geometry class? I loved him!! And then to have Hunting follow him-OY!!!

Remember Mr Gally... He was the one who put the pants in the display in the front hallway... He was a real trip... Years after hight school I saw him, but forgot his name... When I asked he said MR GALLY....

01/24/09 11:48 AM #332

Hey, I remember some club egg fights out at a park. At one someone let an egg fly with poor aim and it hit a woman in the but, sitting on a picnic table bench. The egg didn't break and she called the cops and said someone threw a rock at her.
