Terri Morris (Balchen)

Thanks, Sue.

If I get the nerve, I may send him a thank you card for a class I took 40 years ago. I just wanted him to know he did make a difference in a 17 year old's life.

I was hoping he would maybe see this here.

Terri
I was nervious when I called Mr Fusco and told him that while I was a bad artist, I loved art and it was because of his class... He was surpise but glad.... Do not send a card but call him.... I wonder how many of our old teachers are still with us... I was in Mrs Block 4th grade class at Taylor ( her first year of teaching) and now I understand she is in a nursing home...As we all get closer to retirement, it is nice to hear that we made a differance in the world....
Take care......

I found this at lakeview cementary... it says alot on what I believe: Dreamland “What if this life should prove to be a dream,- A slumber journey to a fancied sphere: Would the return to consciousness redeem The loss, eternal, of the dreamland here? What if the scenes and friendships that seem real, Were but vision of a reverie: Would the awakening again reveal The picture of the dreamland mystery? Or would the thoughts reflected in review Of the dream incidents recalled again, Forever pass away as most dreams do, And naught of dreamlands memories remain? What if a choice were offered from above, To live on earth or dwell with The Supreme,- Forgetting all the ties, endearments, love,- In this strange life, if it should prove a dream! What if the future life, too, were denied Returning glimpses of the dreamland shore.- What could the God of all above provide In lieu of the lost dream—to dream no more.” Albert Anthony Augustus Cleveland, Sept. 10th, 1925

I haven't been able to check this site as often as I could before I started taking classes last fall. My classes are great, but I feel like I'm missing a lot in the real world and on this site. I feel like a groundhog sticking my head out.
When is our 60th birthday party scheduled? I, too, am a "mere" 58, but ...

Sue,
I hope your mother is doing better now. I, too, have been "there" (although everybody's "there" is different). Parents' illnesses can be so very, very stressful, confusing, time-and-energy-consuming, and challenging to family relationships.

Steve,
That's an incredible poem. Thanks for posting it.
Where is Mrs. Block? She helped me a lot, as well.

Terri,
Mr. Lasky put history into an awesome perspective. I remember him teaching the philosophies of time periods rather than specific dates. He said teaching us dates was a waste of everyone's time.

LA group,
I'm glad to hear you came through the earthquake OK.

EVERYONE,
As Joyce mentioned, Allison Krause's sister and mother are putting together a 40th commemoration of the events. I remember in this Message Forum that someone was there, but I don't know who or where to find the entry. Does anyone remember who it was?
Does anyone in our class remember details of the events? Let the Krauses know your memories.

Yesterday was the 40th Yahrzeit.
Check out Laurel Krause on Facebook:

Hi,

Someone here inquired about Mr. Lasky. I ran into him at the library of the Western Reserve Historical Society about 2 years ago when I was working on an article for Timeline Magazine. He volunteers at the WRHS in his retirement, I believe for the Cleveland Jewish Archive collection. He looks the same. We had a nice conversation and he is as interesting (and politically informed) as ever. If you can't find his residential contact info, you might be able to contact him there.

Louis - I have some dust to knock off too, but I would still like to have a 60th Birthday Party, even though I am one of the babies of the class too (just a few days older than Joyce).

Anyway, whoever is still interested, lets talk about it. I have a few places in mind myself that is probably walker access. We can discuss it maybe at the Champps dinner. See you all then.

I got up my nerve and called Mr. Lasky. I was really nervous.
But it was something I had to do. And I was glad I did it.

I just wanted to let him know how his Social Problems class shaped my thinking.
We had a wonderful chat!

Of course I look different than I did in high school.
Thanks, 40-volume peroxide.....

LOVED the update from the folks on this site. I think a 45th reunion is a terrific idea...maybe something a little less formal than our 40th. It would be fun to have good food, good company and lots of time to talk and visit. Can we get the countdown Mickey to do the five years??

Mr. Fusco was great. He thought I was a "talented artist". He was dead wrong!! We had to make choices in ninth grade and I think he wanted more art students than music. Clearly, I belonged in the Singers and NOT in an art class. My "art skills" were...well...lacking. I have to give him an A for encouragement. His art class was fun.

i had the same problem i could not draw a straight line with a ruler my singing sounded like a boat coming into port so i got into band hoping every one can drown me out

WOW, fun hearing everyone's experiences with Mr.Fusco and Mr. Lasky. Good people!!

I also think we can have a 60th BD Bash. I thought it was just going to be an impromtu gathering and would also be a lot of fun for those who can attend. Somehow some of us will find a day and time and just let people know about it. Nothing formal, just for fun next summer.

The idea of a 45th reunion is great for the committee to get together.

I will be honest and say I didn't open the email about a 60th b-day party . I think it would be easy enough to meet at the park with a picnic lunch for those who admit they are 60. I'm with Jack Benny .... 39 forever. Anyway it's a year away .
The idea of a 45th reunion is wonderful. Everyone wanted that . Again we thank the committee for all their hard work .

Hello all...

Looking forward to seeing many of you at Chammps soon...

Another opportunity to gather...I'm hosting a charity fly fishing outing at Rockwell Springs Trout Club on May 5th, 6th & 7th.

Just southwest of Sandusky, Rockwell has forty acres of streams and pools full of trout. Even if you don't fish, it's a great retreat with cabins, restaurant, bar, billiard, TV and reading rooms. Have room for abt 15 guests... Ladies welcome...This is not a "stag" event. Check it out @:

For those of you going to the Kent State Tribunal, I will be there in spirit. I would defintely go if I were in town. For my facebook friends I did post it with the link. This is also for our crazy wild past! (Now we make sure we aren't irregular!)

In todays Plain Dealer-Metro section-very informative article about Laurel Krause and the Kent State Truth Tribunal...I hope some of the local people will try to support her event if they can. The history books are not telling the truth and that makes me so mad and sad.

Charles, (Chuck) Balcher

I was terrible at art in Mr Fusco"s class.  Finally, I decided to put as much paint as I could possible put on that darn page. I covering every crevice. That was my first and only "A". Thanks Mr. Fusco.

Chuck...I did the same thing in Mr. Fusco's class...covered my "art" (and I use the term VERY loosely) with all different shades of PINKs...honestly it was so awful. But Mr. Fusco loved it. I have to hand it to him...he was encouraging even to folks like me who didn't have a thread of artistic talent in his mediums. Lucky for the rest of the world...I stuck with music!!

Over the years we had teachers good and bad.... I do wonder if calling them after 40-50 years and telling the good ones makes a difference in their lifes.... I would hope so
