Shelly & Mitch... Stop! you're both right! It's two...two ...two mints in one!... Sorry... Flashing back to the '60's again... What were those mints, anyway?

It was Royal Castle but they're long gone. White Castle is still around but I'm going to need some help here... The only ones I know are west of the river...

Want to share with all of you that last night I had the distinct pleasure of attending a concert of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in Clearwater, FL, a couple hours away from Orlando. Our classmate, Martha Caplin, is a violinist with this amazing group. I've posted a picture on my profile of the 2 of us afterward and also sent it to Val. This orchestra is absolutely amazing and I would encourage you to check out their website www.orpheusnyc.com to see if they're playing anywhere near you. They are based in New York City. And, of course, it was great seeing Martha and catching up on maybe 15 years of our lives. It definitely brought back memories of Hts. High music.

Didn't we have a Friday night party at the last reunion? Is it at all possible to do the same this time? Maybe Bonnie's idea of reserving a large room at the hotel would work, or if any of you Clevelanders has an idea of where we might be able to get together casually.

Hey Terri,

Sorry I didn't check out who lived where in Florida!! We could have had another reunion.

There still might be a White Castle on Northfield Rd.
I'm not sure if it is still there. Looking forward to seeing everyone in October. I'm glad to see we have many participating on this site

When the Browns played the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas in '04, Jerry Simms, Bob Weiss, Danny Hecht, Doug Bruell, David Stern, the swimmer, not the smart one, and an assortment of other non Heights, Cleveland buddies came for the weekend. Dougie brought 10 Geracis, half baked, that the hotel finished for our first meal.

My native born Dallas sons have had Mawbys burgers, in Texas in 1992. If you ask how I will tell the story.

Didn't about 7 of us go down to Little Italy, to buy fireworks, only to give someone our combined hard earned $40, then get ripped off?

Even though no one asked, here is the Mawby's story.

I moved to Dallas in '84 to get in the rental car industry. In '92 I am at a convention and I see a guy named Ken Mawby. After going crazy, I assertain that he was the son of the renedgade Mawby brother who had his Mawby's at Van Aken Center. Ken is a fleet car salesman in North Texas.

He invited me and my sons to his house, he is married to a wonderful Shaker lady Barb, and he recreated everything Mawby's except the hunchback at Cedar Center putting the cup trays in the dishwasher and the rolling toaster.

He had a grill on top of his stove. A mound of grilled onions, fries, shakes the works. Told me they used a secret fat cut into top ground sirloin that was the key.

I had 3 grilled, dills that night and took two home for breakfast. My sons, 7 and 3 at the time loved it.

No one else's kids from our group can make the claim that they have had a Mawby's burger!

40 years-I can't quite believe it! I don't know if I will be able to attend (I live in Chicago) but if I go to Beachwood sometime in October, I will post it on my site here and hopefully can meet some old friends.

Debbie - It is great to hear that the Orpheus is as good as I remember FROM the many years that I subscribed and attended at Carnegie Hall.

I don't believe that Martha was concertmaster in the mid 80s. What an accomplishment.

Certainly wish that they would visit Cleveland.

As you probably know, White Castle is a burger chain out of Columbus and Royal Castle was a local Cleveland chain.

While the burgers no longer exist the owner still owns much of the real estate that was the RC locations. He is in his late '80's and continues to manage his real estate holdings in FL and in Cleveland, including the Douglas Building, (named after his son), across from HHS where we all went to Royal Castle.

I remember after football games some of the guys would sit at the counter at Royal Castle and squeeze the ketchup bottles to try and hit the ceiling. Or, am I hallucinating again? Also, there was that one guy behind the counter who could cut all the square buns with that really long knife then flip the tops off, all still connected.

Jim... not to be too .....
White Castle was founded in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas not Columbus.... My brother was friends with a guy who father was a meat buyer for Royal Castle ... But the rumor was one guy had his finger cut off and ground up with the meat.... and they served it!!!!

Scott, I would love to do the Schvitz. I was last there a couple of years ago. With Pesach and travel the soonest I could go would be the week of April 27th (my 58th birthday). It would be great to get a group together.

white castle burgers are not the same as Royal Castle.... I knew Royal Castle burgers.... but I forgot what was the potato they had insted of french fries? (French fries came later after we left heights)

Randy,

The only thing better than a Mawby's right now would be a Geraci's pepperoni & sausage - well done, of course.
A little garlic bread might be pretty nice too.

A lot of folks have been discussing Geraci's but no one is talking about how we used to grade them when they got delivered to the table.

Ahhh... Food talk! Let's see.... Where to start?

Royal Castle had home fries... Sliced potatoes with those onions sitting on the flattop. White Castle burgers taste the same as Royal Castle burgers to me.

Tom... And any other interested party... Buddy Steve and I have scheduled another schvitz on Thursday, April 23rd. Let me know if you can join us.

Mitch... Never seen a Tastycake around here... Read about them somewhere, I think.

Giant Engle sometimes has Tastycakes....
I have always love anything poppyseed.... until I failed my drug test :)

Randy, the genlteman at Marby's who had the hunchback, used to intrique me when I was young (say 5 to 7). It seems like he was there for ever.

To make a proper bologna sandwich:
thick slice bologna fried until a little black put on good thick crust rye bread.....
then run from your wife for ruining fry pan :)
Done that......been there....
