Joyce,

I have a VERY vivid memory of being in music class when the announcement of Kennedy's assassination came over the PA system. Glad to hear someone else remembers...especially since I work with so many people who weren't even born when that happened!

about the Kennedy's assassination.... We were in Mr suba (sp) science class.... a friend had a press route and we delievered the paper late that day... I have wondered how both Kennedy's murders and Martin's too impacted our generation... I remember at 10 going to Euclid Beach and having my mother stand me on the grandstand to watch JFK speak....of course at the time I wanted to go on the rides.....

Stephen,

Now that you mention it, I also rem those clocks at Miethers. Holy cow, There WERE a bunch of them weren't there? Why is coke so expensive now???? I do not rem Cone Corner...must have been the competition!! Also, good question about Kennedy and King..don't forget Bobby Kennedy in '68 to.

Joyce,

Louie has a very vivid imagination.

I was in study hall in the library..I can even picture the table I was seated at. After the announcement of the assassination, I went to Mr. Scott's class for last period. For the life of me...I never figured out why they just didn't send us home.

Talking about Kennedy's death, I was in orchestra, lining up to go to 8th period class. (Any orchestra members around?) We then went to English with Miss Child, I think the witch's name was. I distinctly remember, as everyone was in shock, that we were told to head our papers for a spelling test which she actually started until the PA interrupted her. That's the ONLY thing I remember about the class! I think Shirley Hyatt was in my class....

Sheryl,

I am not sure if you rem me but I surely rem that old bat of an English teacher. Then there was my junior English and I could not stand her either, I can see her but have blocked out the memory. I also rem Shirley Hyatt. Wonder where she is now??

Gosh, I was in 7th grade music when the announcement came over the P.A. about Kennedy. We still had to take our test but the teacher, whoever she was, was very kind and actually considered what was happening in the news!

Sheryl, I was in orchestra too, I remember Martha Caplin because we both played violin and also I remember Mr. Koda's son. What did you play? I remember the Kennedy assasination event and I remember hearing it on the loud speaker, but I don't remember which class I was in and any of the particulars. I remember the teachers were crying. And I remember China Gate and I remember the french bread was my favorite food there besides the colored chips they gave you before the meal. And what the heck happened to Cedar Center? What is there now? It's like a perfect place for shops, it's hard to believe it's all gone!

Val, what kind of dog is lucky. He's a cutie.

I think I was at the end of Mr. Suba's class when we first heard and then went to Mr. Yanik's class for the last period where we sat and listened to the loudspeaker. He was crying I remembered. I think I was not really comprehending it all. I just sat and listened.

There are no plains of when they are going to rebuild Cedar Center. The Coral Group who did the other side(University Hts) is the developer. By the way anyone who loved Davis Bakery coconut bars, ...I was in Marc's today
for those who don't know what Marcs is it is a discount store that carries everything is now carrying Corbo's
bakery products(from little Italy). I had bought 2 chocolate bars for 2.00 and boy were they good. I say that they had a lot of different bakery items including there famous casada cakes.

What about the No Name? Our favorite hangout... Oh, and Lucky is a Shih Tzu.

WOW,

All of those stores at Cedar Center. I also rem China Gate and one of our classmates, Sharon Ming's mother worked there for a million years!!!! Sharon has not signed into this forum yet. I also like the 'colored chips.' Here in Florida we don't eat chips like that due to the mystery of whether they are road kill or not.

It is hard to believe all of those places belong only in history now. May Company on the Hts, Corky's, Davis Bakery, (Sandy Beksa's old stomping ground) and Val, the 'NO NAME.' That was some kind of place. A funny memory was always 'last call' and how my friends and I used to fill up anything we could with beer. This included but was not limited to winter boots!! CRAZY!!

Stephen, I agree, the egg rolls were so so at China Gate but it was always packed!! BUT, I had forgotten aobut the PAgoda on Lee Rd until I read your post. I rem it well!!

I passed Lee Road and Cedar today. The Royal Castle location is available for rent. As I drove by, I noticed the black and white tiles and the counter. Seems to me it's the same as it was 40 years ago. It is such a small space. I saw the teens walking to Heights High and it made me remember how friggin old I am!!!!!!!

Beth, Those "colored chips" are called shrimp chips-are you telling me they don't have those in Florida?!? What do you put in your Won Ton soup? SALTINES???
