We have added a section to the Site entitled "Missing Classmates". This section includes everyone who has not signed onto the site. If you know the whereabouts of any of the missing, PLEASE provide us as much contact information as you have available AND contact them to give them our site: www.clevehts69.com.

Jim: jasamuels@naidaus; Sue: brixblox@aol.com; Norman: NDS69@aol.com

Remember, the more Classmates we locate the greater the likelihood they'll come to the reunion, (duh).

I recieved a very emotional phone call today from daughter Roni(IDF) she spent the day visiting slodiers injured in operation CAST LEAD in various hospitals in Israel. She explained to quite a few of them about our reuninion CHHS 1969 and the warm thoughts that my dads fellow classmates expressed!! yes, all you have a difference today to many young men who probably don't know what or where CHHS is, but they know that someone out there in the USA really cares, and some middle aged guy is writing about it on the net!!!

Kenny:

They ALL remain in my thoughts and prayers.

May they go from Strength to Strength and be SAFE!

Kenny,

My son made aliyah 2 years ago. He was there just before the war with Lebanon in 2006 and arrived home the first day it errupted. He made aliya 6 months later. This is the first time he's been there during a conflict and obviously it's very difficult for me. Does it get easier? Somehow I don't think so.

Nadelane,
Be proud of your son. I envy him. I lived in Jerusalem for six years, my job took me into the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon. Your son is safe.

Dear Heights 69ers,
I didn't know most of you as I moved to Heights right before my Senior year and promptly wrecked my leg in a motorcycle accident so I wore a full leg cast the whole year. I mention this, as it will help explain my two teacher memories. Story 1: Mr. Capeletti the boys P.E. teacher told me I would not graduate with my class as I kept cutting P.E. Not suiting up for class was his reasoning. Irony, anybody? It did get straightened out and I was allowed to graduate on time. Sory 2: When Mr. Wisely would try to catch kids smoking, I was the only one he ever caught. Couldn't run too fast! He was great. He gave me a lecture on how I shouldn't do this. Every day!!! He never wrote me up or took it any farther. I always felt he was a mentsch. I enjoy reading all your messages and applaud your memories. Keep posting, Alan Hammer

Kenny,
Let Roni know that we are all proud of her and her fellow soldiers. I have been very impressed meeting the IDF soldiers that I have worked with.
Thank you for your support to me. You're right. I know that he's in as safe an environment as anywhere. My stepson watched the twin-towers fall from his office window.
Nadelane,
You should also be proud of your son. I really and honestly do think they are as safe as anywhere.
The great news:
Background - Jonathan surfed Indonesia with his half-brother last summer. I was actually concerned that he wouldn't appreciate Israel because "the surf isn't high enough and there are no 'curls'".
He emailed us this morning about how he loves his group, how beautiful Israel is, and how excited he is to finally be there!!

as usual Yael is spearheading a fund raiser for the troops.so far we have raised over$ 1000.00 which will be used to buy each soldier in combat pizza! we plan on throwing the biggest pizza Israel has ever seen, also, we are forwarding letters and notes to the soldiers showing our support. yesterday Yael spoke with Roni's commander who is recuperating in the hospital and he expressed how much the moral support means to the troops.(remember these kids are the same age as our kids)

Rusty brain ... Yael and pizza ... The Sabra on Taylor!

Anne

You have a great memory. I too remember The Sabra and I think Kenny's inlaws owned it. Also her sister, Rachel graduated with us. I lived around the corner from them on South Taylor.

Sheryl Weiss (Levine)

The Sabra...my sister,Donna worked there for a short time as one of her first jobs in high school. That was the first falafel I ever tasted. Small world!
My husband has cousins in Israel. We also pray for the young soldiers there, as well as our soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, so we can be free here in the USA.

Mrs. Lalley, let' see...You're really pushing the memory , but I think she was the secretary in Unit B. I was an office aide and remember doing stuff for her. I didn't know anyone in the central office at all.

Gee, it's so interesting to hear about all the trouble my classmates were in that I knew nothing about!

With all the "UP" and "DOWN" stairs does anyone remember a "Stairway to Nowhere?" Seems to me there was an out-of-the-way stairwell that went up to (maybe) the 3rd floor and just ended in a brick wall. It was a big deal to learn where it was. Or maybe this is an urban legend.

01/09/09 11:33 PM #197

Anne Gutow (Chapman)

I think I remember the term "stairway to nowhere" referring to stairs somewhere adjacent to or within the library.
Shelley, was your older white-haired teacher's name Mr. Byers? or something like that?

Shelley, my brain was merging Mr. Feldman from Taylor with Mr. Smith from Roosevelt! I think Mr. Feldman was my sixth grade science/math teacher.
Sandy, I remember your hair being black - you were punk ahead of your time!
Steve, "teacher at Roosevelt who try to give D's and F's on tests that Jewish kids missed during the Jewish Holidays?" That rings a bell, but I don't know if it was real at the time or did we make it up because the teacher was so mean?
Can you imagine if our own children reported to us some of the teachers' antics from our school years? For instance, holding a piece of paper on the blackboard with your tongue, or the eraser being thrown... And I remember a rabbi breaking a ruler across my hand in Hebrew school because I took too long in the bathroom. (I have to admit my long time in the bathroom was deliberate avoidance.)
I thought that I was the only one who ever got detentions or suspension. I was suspended for wearing an ankle-length black skirt - it was "distracting" to Mrs. Goodman in the hallway.
I was suspended for being caught cutting school. Does that make sense?
Does anyone remember swimming at Squaw Rock (while cutting classes)?

I'm glad only 8 people signed up for Latin, at Roosevelt, in 7th grade. They had to cancel the class. I hated Lillian Bogart's French class so much,(D-), I finally learned Japanese, 30 years later. Danny Hecht, won best intramural sports athlete. I was head of sports, and had to be corrected by Mr. Jackson, because I added up the points wrong, and was going to award it to someone else. I still don't see why Mr. Blain, my homeroom and math teacher, told me that math was important.

Any one from Wiley out there? Since everyone is from Roosevelt. You would think noone went to Wiley.
Remember Mr. Warner, Mrs. Geiser, Mr. Capelletti,Mr. Bellin, and anyone else? All the girls that had Mrs. Geiser used to think she was going to fly away.

Mitch...

The Italian shop teacher was Mr. Calo (sp?) who dropped smart-ass guys twice his size to their knees with his infamous "Calo Crunch." For non-Monty grads Mr. Calo's fingers were incredibly strong. He would sidle up to anyone who was getting out of line, grab the nerve in the guy's elbow and "crunch" it. Very funny to watch. Excruciating if you were on the receiving end. Another example of behavior that teachers couldn't get away with today.
