Global Village GV16047 Team Checklist
This handy list will walk you through the things you need to do to prepare for a successful Global Village trip!
- Create your share.habitat page, which will help you process your payments, raise funds, and get the word out about your trip! Do that here: https://www.habitat.org/cd/gv/participant/tripshare.aspx Your Event Code is GV16047, and your Participant ID can be found on your official invitation letter.
- Submit your $350 deposit through your share.habitat page. You can fundraise this amount through friends & family, or submit a payment yourself. This should be done as soon as possible after being accepted. Your place on the team is not secured until your deposit is received.
- Start Fundraising!! You can engage friends and family through your share.habitat page, solicit donations on social media, and get the word out about what you’re doing. Hold fundraising events. Think about what the people in your circle enjoy – I’ve seen successful fundraisers like bowling parties, fun runs, car washes, and beer tastings. My favorite fundraisers are when my friends and family have an opportunity to come together for an event.
- Book your airfare. Airfare is not included in the cost of the trip, so researching and booking your flights when costs are low is really important. I find the best rates available usually occur at least 3 months before a trip. Ideally you should have your flight booked before February 2016.
- Arrive in Anchorage (Airport code ANC) on May 1. Please try to arrive by 9 p.m. Most flights into Anchorage arrive in the afternoon or evening.
- Book flights out of Anchorage for any time May 9.
- Send Shannon your flight itinerary. Once you’ve booked your travel, please send me your full flight itinerary, including airlines, flight numbers, and departure/arrival times. The easiest way to do this is to just forward your confirmation email, or use the “email itinerary” feature on most travel websites.
- Make a packing list. See the page on the team website titled “What to pack”. Review that list well in advance of when you would normally start packing for a trip. There shouldn’t be much that you need to purchase or borrow, but just in case it you do it helps to know that in advance.
- Make your final payment. The full cost of the trip is due 45 days before the start of the trip. Our due date is March 17, 2016. Please make your final payments by that date.
- Ask questions! If there’s any questions that come up about the trip, Habitat, Alaska, etc, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My job is to make sure you’re prepared, comfortable, and that you have a great experience!
