Upon graduation from HHS, I attended California Lutheran University for 2 years, staying extremely busy playing basketball & baseball, serving on the Lord of Life campus Church Council, & almost maintaining straight A's. In the Spring of 1993 I transferred home to CU-Colorado Springs, where I competed on the tennis team, obtained a job working as a tour guide at the Olympic Training Center downtown, & started to become active at Woodmen Valley Chapel. After working at the OTC for a couple of years, I was then employed (while still going to CU-CS) at Boston Market on North Academy & Woodmen, as well as in the role of an advisor in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences. During the summer of '96 I returned to the Country Club of Colorado, where I had worked, mostly in the Golf Shop bag room & pro shop, during my time at HHS. But this time I worked out on golf course maintenance (what a tan! :o) ). When the weather turned cold, I transferred up to the front desk at the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort, which is part of the Country Club. In early '97 I chased a girl out to Davis, in Northern California near Sacramento. I worked a brief stint at a sporting goods store that was run/managed like garbage, & then managed the TCBY in town, which was VERY popular & busy! After being there awhile, & also breaking-up w/said girl, I moved 2 doors down to manage at Dos Coyotes Border Cafe-also EXTREMELY yummy, popular & busy! I took some classes at UC-Davis & Sacramento State University, then moved home again in late '99. Almost immediately I was offered a managerial position at Zio's Italian Kitchen on I-25 & Woodmen, where I soon met Jennifer, my lovely wife, who was working there as a server/bartender during nursing school at Bethel College of Nursing at CU-CS. I guess you could say the rest is all history &/or they lived happily-ever-after, 'cuz we began dating in early '01, became pregnant w/Grant near the Air Force-Notre Dame football game in the Fall of '02 (that's where/when she decided to tell me....), married at Woodmoor Pines Country Club in Monument where I was employed in the golf shop Dec. 7th, 2002, & delivered Grant in June of '03. While we were in labor I got a call offering me a managerial position at Mimi's Cafe, where I started my training shortly thereafter. I trained at the N. Academy & Woodmen store, then headed out to the new store out on Powers, in order to staff, train, set-up & ready it to open.
Before agreeing to be employed by Mimi's (upon graduation, Jenny went right to work as a Labor & Delivery nurse at Penrose Community Hospital), we knew that plans had been drawn-up to soon open a location here in Northern Colorado in Loveland. So the powers-that-be agreed to send me/us up here when the time came. So in September of '04 we sold our home near Powers & Dublin & closed on one here in Johnstown, just 10-15 minutes southeast of Loveland. I commuted to the Broomfield store for 3 months, then the Golden store for one more, then helped open my 2nd store! Jenny had grown-up in Fort Collins, & most of her family now lives in Loveland (we try not to go to Greeley, unless we ABSOLUTELY have to! :o) ), so she had really been itchin' to head back up this way. She initially worked as a Labor & Delivery nurse down the way about a half hour at Exempla-Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette-Louisville. Then we caught wind that there was going to be a new hospital built in Loveland that was affiliated w/the Poudre Valley Health System/Hospital out of Fort Collins. She was actually hired lickity-split not only as a Labor & Delivery nurse, but also an Education Coordinator as well! So she left Exempla-Good Sam & began working out of a small older building adjacent to the hospital in Fort Collins-before the actual building in Loveland was ready for habitation! Then, just less than 3 years ago, w/our only outstanding debt being our home mortgage, we decided that it was time for me to begin staying at home w/our wonderful boys! Jenny has since relinquished her role as education coordinator, but is now on call LOTS as one of the states' (the Northern portion, at least!) foremost SANE nurses. SANE=Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. It's a bit of an unfortunate job, but assaults do take place, & when they do, she often receives the call to come in & professionally, compassionately perform the exam. (somebody has to.....) In this role, as you might imagine, she sometimes must testify in court, as she did yesterday, as to her findings & observations during an exam. She thoroughly enjoys all of her roles-Labor & Delivery nurse, SANE nurse, loving, amazing Mother & Wife, nurturing daughter, sister, etc.
I couldn't be happier either! I've always been somewhat of a domestic goddess, thanks to the training given by my Mother over the years, & this way the boyz don't spend any time at daycare, we don't have to pay for it, along w/extra wear-and-tear on a vehicle, etc. I take care of & enjoy the housework, cooking, cleaning, laundry, yardwork, household upkeep, etc. Plus, sports junkie that I am, I get to squeeze in watching a game/match now & then, as well as work out, occasionally hit the tennis court/golf course, attend Colorado Eagles hockey games (CHL-minor leagues) at the Budweiser Event Center, & once-in-awhile the Rapids, Mammoth, Outlaws, Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, Ice, CSU, CU, etc. Yes, the boyz love goin' along, watchin' on tv, but especially participating/praciticing! We're constantly playing catch, kickin' soccer balls around, riding bikes, etc. Grant is already pretty adept at t-ball/coach pitch (current season), hoops, swimming, & especially SOCCER! This Fall he'll play his 1st season of flag football, & in February 2011 we're both going to take on LACROSSE! Lacrosse was a sport that I REALLY would've liked to have played growing up, but back then it just wasn't prevalent at all here in Colorado. But it's grown immensely since then, & I plan to coach his 1st team (& probably future ones) so that we can learn & grow on the field TOGETHER!
Lastly, May 5-19 we flew down to Orlando, Florida. WHAT A TRIP! We saw all of the Disney Parks & characters-most of them more than once! (Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot & the Magic Kingdom, one of the water parks, downtown Disney, Sea World, restaurants, Childrens' Hospital-long story, don't worry-Lance is FINE!) The boyz, & Mom & Dad, loved every minute of it! Now to save for Jenny & I heading to Cabo the end of the year, all of us going to Hawaii next year, then back to DisneyWorld in 2012! :o)
