Deborah Henderson Kondelik

After graduation I attended UF and received a B.A. in acting. I was a professional actor for some time (stage, film, TV) and then started teaching. I taught at the Cushman School for many years. I went back to college and received my M.F.A. in acting/directing at FAU. Then I was hired as theatre professor at Broward College where I directed plays, operas, musicals and original works. I taught acting, directing, dramatic literature, stage makeup and movement for the actor. Since my retirement from the college in 2016, I have been directing and acting professionally. I was in the "Band of Distinction" at Gables (flute), "Uncle Willie" Ledue, director. We always marched in the Orange Bowl Parade and we performed at the big Orange Bowl football game each year. One year many high school bands gathered to collectively perform at the annual game. During half-time all the bands lined up in formation on the field; we were at the very back and the flutes were in the very last row. At a certain moment, there was to be a call for an "about face". Uncle Willie told us exactly what to listen for and stressed that we were NOT to miss it. Well . . . I was mesmerized - looking up at the crowds and missed the "about face" call. When I finally looked back, every single person in all the bands were facing me. I was the only person facing the wrong way. Swiftly I did a 180.
