John W. Shade, 59, of Crystal Lake died on August 23, 2015.He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Adgie Shade. John is survived by his loving daughter, Julia C. Shade; his sister, Suzanne E. Shade; and brother, David M. Shade (Charlotte). He is also survived by his niece, Lisa A. Shade; nephews, David M. Shade, Jr. (Amy), Paul W. Shade (Heidi); and several grandnieces and grandnephews.John was a graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School and attended Miami University. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Woodstock Country Club and the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce.A private service has been held.Contributions may be made to The Shade Family Foundation, 190 South LaSalle Street, Suite 2900, Chicago, IL 60603

John Shade and I were great friends thoughout grade school and high school. I remember when his dad took us many times to the Blackhawk games in grade school. What a treat! John loved to play sports and was always one of the best players on the field. But what was really special about John was how how he treated people and never spoke ill of anyone. He was a person that I always would look up when in town and enjoyed talking anout those "glory days". Rest in peace Johnny Potato you he will be missed at the reunion!

I first met John at Lundahl, Jr. High. Just a nice quiet unassuming guy who liked to compete in all sorts of sports. He grew into a gentleman and is missed. Prayers for his family.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing John as an adult, but I certainly remember him as a school-yard friend, going back to the 3rd grade at South school, where Spencer was always first to pick 'Potato' as his horse for Chicken-fights. Knew him later, at Lundahl Jr. High as well... Always smiling and now smiling down on us all!

They broke the mold with John Shade, a nicer guy you would be hard pressed to find. It could have been twenty years since you last saw him but when you did it was like you saw him just yesterday. You think you have all the time in the world to say goodbye to an old friend but it's times like these that make you realize you are mistaken.God bless you John and your family in their time of loss.
