CRYSTAL LAKE – Jim Stalo, 53, a lifelong resident of Crystal Lake, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Barrington, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 22, 1957, in Detroit, to Edwin and Martha Stalo. He married Colleen P. (O'Donnell) Stalo on May 23, 1981, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Crystal Lake.
He was a 1975 graduate of Crystal Lake Community High School and an avid athlete, playing football and wrestling. He graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in construction engineering. He worked for Berger Excavating Contractors in Wauconda for 14 years. He loved exercising and keeping in the best physical shape possible. He enjoyed attending his children's sporting events, including hockey and golf. He also enjoyed boating, golfing and doing projects around his home. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Colleen; his loving children, Kristie (Tommy) Alford, R.J. Stalo and Scottie Stalo; his cherished grandchild, Jack Alford and one on the way; and dear siblings, Tom (Maria) Stalo, Mary Helper and Mark (Nancy) Stalo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ricky; and his brother-in-law, Gordon Helper.
The visitation will be from noon until the service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at Crystal Lake Memorial Park Cemetery.
