Jay S. Eigel, 75, of Darien, IL, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024. Born on June 8, 1949, in Woodstock, IL, Jay was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Bonnie Schock Eigel; his son, Matthew Eigel, and his wife, Sarah; and their two sons, Austin and Carter. He is also survived by his daughter, Emily Starks, and her husband, Muhummad Starks; and their children, Graylend and Cora.
Jay was a gifted musician and an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, who shared his love of music by performing in numerous bands over the years, including a cherished family band with his children and close family friends. His passion for music and his talent brought joy to countless people.
He enjoyed a successful career in commercial real estate, but his greatest love was for his family. Jay was a proud father and grandfather who relished spending time with his loved ones, whether golfing, traveling, or hosting backyard BBQs. He was known for his talent at smoking meats and bringing people together for unforgettable family gatherings and band parties at his home.
Jay was a kind, patient, and intelligent man who valued honesty and integrity. He enjoyed traveling with Bonnie to visit family in Wisconsin, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina, where he made many happy memories with his brothers, Chris (Carolyn) and Steve (Suzanne), and his sisters-in-law, Jackie, Judy (Mike), and his many nieces and nephews.
Jay will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the music he played and the memories he created with those he loved.
A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Please contact the family for details. Arrangements entrusted to Cappetta's West Suburban Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Westmont. Info 630-852-8000 or westsuburbanfh.com

Fond memories of an unforgettable Jay. Here he was at St Lukes Episcopal Church dance class - maybe about 1963? 8th grade? With Linda Crawford, Shirley Zell Kaye , me, Tom Wightman? and Linda Rovelstad?
