I think we have lost all the boys. Just seems to be the chicks chatting anymore...

Tara,

EI was for early intervention. What is amazing is the lack of a brain bleed in a baby born that early. You are truly blessed.

Jaylyn was an oddity. She was a twin (I lost her twin at 16 weeks). We didn't know there were 2 babies so we were thankful for the 1. She was born at 40 weeks 1 day by emergency c-section due to decelerations in her heart rate while in labor. She had the cord around her neck twice and her body once. God has some wild plans for this child I'll gross all the guys out but, they ran away so it doesn't matter. After I lost her twin they couldn't figure out why my cervix was closed. When I went into labor the first time (yeah I did it twice) I didn't feel good no pain just felt yucky. She obviously went into distress and then went back north and my cervix closed again. The day of her birth she was dropping and everything was fine. I got to about 6.5cm and her heart rate dropped to 40bpm and she went back north and my cervix started to close again. She was delivered 1 minute after they knocked me out per the OR report. Her blood sugar was 19 at birth (the lowest it got was 12), her APGAR 's were 2 at birth, 4 after a minute, 6 after 5 minutes and 8 at 10 minutes. We only had to spend 18 days in the NICU. The pediatricians didn't know what to do with her. She couldn't regulate no matter what. Finally, the called Boston's Women's and Children's hospital. One of the Dr.'s there suggested they try an experimental heart drug that had the side effect of high blood sugar. A vial that looked like maybe 5 or 10 ml's was over $600.00. Anyway, it worked, we brought her home on it, decreased it and eventually discontinued it at home. I think they let us take her because my husband use to be an EMT and was a volunteer fire fighter and I was a medical professional. We didn't even have to take CPR classes or do a stay over. All we had to do was a return demonstration on use of the blood glucose monitor. She was relatively cheap only about $37,000.00. Plus the original hospital charge. (Down here not every hospital has a NICU she went to Pensacola on day 4) After the first hospital screwed her up so badly. I didn't hold her --heck no one held her until she was 4 days old. The nurses in Pensacola were amazed because they (the birth hospital) didn't even give her a bath. guess that is her story, the only thing wrong is that she wears glasses.

My road kill stories are more fun to read.

Hi Gwen, yes, we were very lucky about having no brain bleeds. I remember my husband came back from the NICU (I was in the hospital for about 10 days) and said he could not believe how soft John's skull was, that they pretty much just move around the 4 bones (which aren't even cloose to being fused what so ever at that gestational age) to do the ultrasound. Any how, there were no bleeds at 3 or 7 days, so he did not require any more ultrasounds. John's little lungs did bleed, can't rememebr the medical term for that, but they said that was because of the vent. That went away after about 2 weeks. We didn't get to hold John until he was 2 weeks old, it was Father's Day. I didn't even get to see John for the first 7 days, as I was in a padded bed for seizures and they would not let me get out, they didn't even let me eat! All I had my epidural and and IV. It was hard not to get to even see him, I had a lot of people come visit and they got to go in and see him, but not me. I only seen a picture and it was not a good one. At one point they wanted to move him downtown and I was so upset, but thankfully he did not need the surgery they thought he did. I know there are different levels of NICU's. The only thing Oakwood did not do in the NICU was surgery. They have an excellent NICU, not sure about the rest of the hospital. Having a baby in the NICU, not knowng if you are going to that phone call to rush up there, all the uncertainties (spelling) that come with a preemie, or any baby needing the NICU is a hard thing. You never forget all those tubes, wires, worried looks fromt he nurses and doctors. The monitors going off and seeing a nurse rush over to attempt to get you rbaby to breathe. You can only look at now and think WOW! What obstacles they have overcome! I am glad your daughter did well! I remember the little hamburger heels, too! Good thing the little ones don't remeber that!

Welcome back Robert!
I am sure my dad and sister will come back with road kill stories as they are up in White Cloud. About 10 years ago my dad hit a huge doe on 37. He had my truck! It almost totaled it, I still can't believ AAA fixed it. My dad said that was the biggest deer he had seen in his life. It had to be big because he hit it with the right front and the body must have spun and smashed the entire right side from bumper to bumper. It took 4 adults to barelt life her in the back of the truck. Some guy up there eats only venison and will come pick up any fresh deer kill! When my dad tried to swerve he also hit the guardrail and the county of Newaygo billed AAA a couple grand to fix it. To this day it is still not fixed. My dad has called AAA to ask and they said they don't care if t ever gets fixed, all they care about is that it is paid for! And, people wonder why any kind of insurance is so expensive.

Ok...now EI in my working world is Emotional Impaired, so Gwen you always want to clarify your acronyms. Also EI is school world is emotional impaired, EMI is emotional & mentally impaired. That's why in our lingo short hand can lead to the wrong thoughts.

Speaking of road kill...I was such as weird child & animal lover...I wanted to grow up & pick up the road kill as a kid. I was going to get a job that would allow me to help these animals to there finally resting place. My dad's evil ass, said...Wow you'd have to find an awfully big spatula to scrape them from the pavement.

Now we're talking!

My roommate in college hit a deer right in the stomach. His car was covered in deer ####, and had pictures to prove it. Ty Chasey and Jim Rinn would have been proud.

Yea, there were deer "insides" on the truck, too! I hit a poor cat on Annapolis and Jackson, two cats came running across the street, they were moving very fast, I do not know if I hit the first or second one, I felt so bad, I went back around and looked and I smashed it's head. I could not quit crying, the other cat was standing there looking at me. To this day, I still feel bad, it was one of those things like when that lab got hit the other day, it just comes running so fast, you don't see until you hit it.
I think I have scared my kids about ever going in the street here, when we walk across the street to visit our neighbors, they always say, "Mom we are not allowed in the street, EVER NEVER" Our street is a race track. The idiots come off Van Born at 40 and don't slow down until they come to the stop sign. Some live on the next block with their own kids, who are 3 and 5 and are allowed in the street, ghetto people. I am always scared to dive that way because of their kids, not to mention their pit bulls that get out all the time and hop my fence and terrify our puppies. I'm telling you, this neighborhood in a couple years is just gonna be called a "hood"

Now my daughter was hit by a car when she was 3 years old. My hubby picked her up from the babysitters, took her to 7/11 for a slurpee. When he got home he pulled her out on the driver's side of the street, put her down in front of him, & reached in to get the slurpees...she seen my car in the driveway & shouted Mommy's home...& ran around my hubby, right in front of a little old man's car. I was in the house getting ready to go to work, when I opened the door...& my daughter was crying & my hubby yelling "Get the dogs, get the dogs"...So I think their are dogs attacking them, when what he really meant was move our dogs, that the old man was right behind him. I finally get the story, & of course I'm yelling, why did you pick up my daughter, scared shitless that he might of caused her more damage...well I guess the old man was driving rather slow, thank the lord, & all thou I was told my daughter did fly back about 2-3 feet, that she jumped up & ran to her daddy. Well the old man is saying call an ambulance, I got insurance...My mind was "well hell I already have my keys in hand, & we need to get her there now....So I give the old man my work card & tell him to call me tomorrow...I gotta get my daughter to the hospital! My hubby drove & I tried to calm my daughter...she scared the living shit out of me...she was in shock at being hit as well as how her father was acting (of course screaming at the cars in fornt of us to move)...my daughters eye start to roll back into her head...I smacked my hubby yelling him to keep it down, & start playing lets identify the colors to her...I knew I needed to keep her focused...We get like a mile from the hospital, when a cop starts to try to pull us over, I am looking out the back window trying to play charades w/the cop to tell him were not stopping, that he should lead us (needless to say he didn't catch on)...so we pull into the ER drop off lane, I grap my daughter...& the cop says stop I need to talk to you, I say fuck you...talk to him. The cop grills my hubby on the why didn't you call an ambulance, he explains...the cop was an ass & gave him a warning...lucky he didn't come in & talk to me.

Anyhow...my daughter only had sratches on her left side ribs, & right side head! They did the whole MRI & everything...I even a year later talked my doc into doing another MRI just in case something didn't show till later. She is now my 10 and a half year old, who just came back from camp.

Anyhow...my point to this story...I am a freak about the kids around cars, but do you think my boys get this fear, no, they love to keep me in panic. Have pulled away from me in a parking lot, the baby who is 4, jetted out of my van 2 weeks ago, right in front of a car, but was not hit! It's amasing to me that my hair has not completely turned white, I just have a couple of well hidden strands that each one of my kids have created!

Of course I put my hubby on a compete guilt trip about my daughter being hit, but I must say...I can not imagine seeing what he seen, I would still be having nightmares.

Ok that ain't the best road kill story, but it's my deepest scar tissue story. I only had 3 "hit an animal" stories...but 2 of them I did not hit, but watched get hit. I will tell these stories...which are not as mello dramic later...I gotta go to a Skate Club meeting...my part as a "sk8 mom".

11/16/08 04:07 PM #931

Dang,

I have never hit an animal either---See I think I am winning the most boring life contest.

Never had a ticket.

Maybe I don't have a boring life, maybe I am just lucky

OK doing contractual work today so I start off w/one of the road kill I just witnessed.

I'm driving down Vanborn at like 3am in the morning... Only like 2 other cars on the road...I pass this cat starting to cross the street...& the car behind me, swerves to hit it on purpose...So I turned around to aid the cat...yes Robert I am an animal sap! Anyhow, out of know where as I get out of my car, (parked on a side street) some guy says...did you hit my cat...I was like know...the guy behind me did, I came to see if I could help...he was like "she has a litter of kittens, I don't know what to do with"...I started to walk up on the cat saying "well maybe we can get her to an emergency vet"... he replies..."I don't think it will do much good, w/out her head"! The cat was deheaded...Totally ruined my night, the guy kept badgering me about what he was going to do...sad part was it felt like he was trying to get me to pay him for someone else hitting the cat. He didn't seem really all that upset, I even offered to take her kittens for him, & he was just like fishing for money! ASSHOLE!

11/17/08 07:00 PM #933

Shannon Krych (Hofer)

Ok... I didn't hit this animal as much as it was starting my car and not checking the engine. I was on my way to work in the morning. I was driving my parents band new car. I put the car in reverse and it made this banging noise coming from under the hood. I stopped and stared at the dash board. The F**ker lit up like a christmas tree. I didn't know what to do so I put it in drive hand hit the gas. This thing shot out from the wheel well and landed in the bushes. The car dies. I go in the house and tell my dad that I broke the new car. He goes outside and pops the hood and comes in the house laughing so hard he had to sit down. I'm not sure what to make of these events. He says we will need a tow and calls a guy. The guy comes and he too begins to laugh. I go out side to see what has happened. The entire engine is covered in fur. I mean you can't see anything but fur. We go and look in the bush where I tell my dad the object landed and it is our neighbors cat. There is no blood but this cat only has hair on its head. The rest of its body is shaved down like a new recruit. Bad thing is... the banging I heard was his head hitting the hood as he went round and round the fan blade... He die a minutes later... I never could look the neighbor in the eye after that day...

Shannon,

I know that was very traumatic for you...but it is funny.

Update:

Took my little darling for an Upper GI today. The Dr. called and said he had a preulcer stomach and to keep taking the medicine. WTF I can't think what a 7 year old would have an ulcer for but, anyway, they think he will be fine.

Gwen- It wasn't funny when it happened but it is funny to tell now...LOL Poor cat... For awhile my dad referred to thin as thumper the hairless wonder...

11/17/08 09:28 PM #937

April Passen (Ochman)

Oh Shannon, that is the worse best story! I'm just glad it was you & not me.

Now I have a simular story...my rabbit had babies...8 of them, she was fat as shit & could not nurse them due to suffercation! So this being her 2nd litter, which I did raise the 1st litter by hand success...I thought I had it totally under control. But 8 is so much greater then 2. I started to noticed a couple getting weak, so as I nussled them in my bossom...I noticed the body heat made them stronger...So I decide to wrap their carrying cage I have them in w/a electric blanket, leaving the top open. Well I had to go bowling & grabbed my bag next to them...when I pulled the bag up, I did not notice that the top to the carrier closed...So needless to say, when I got home from bowling, not only did I suffercate the little bunnies, but I cooked them as well. My old boss still to this day loves to refer to me as the bunny killer...& of course when I got pregnant...he said...How do you know...did you do the rabbit test you killer. Funny now...but was a mess then.

Hooker, you will be glad to know that there is a nice buck hanging in my dad's backyard. He has it hanging from a wooden swing brace and has a blue tarp over the top. You cannot have a deer hanging in your backyard in Dearbron Heights, he knows because a few years back he had one hanging in theback and the police came and said he could not have it there. Hejust killed it this morning and he had to get home so he had to bring it home whole, insides of course buried up north. He aslo had my nephew's (Sport, remember him) buck in 2 coolers the back of the car. My mom won't let him process it while she is home anyway so he has to wait until she goes somewhere for a few hours. Thought you like to know.

Hubby calling...We got Heros on DVR & he tired of waiting for me. I was suppose to only come on to help my daughter w/her homework...you see where I am right?

Hooker I miss you...haven't we talked enough road kill, animal horror stories for you yet? Or did you just go & get a life on us?

How many of you are done Christmas shopping? I am getting very close. There is a website called gottadeal.com and it has the actual Black Friday ads. I actually don't think I will be going out because so far the ads don't look that great! I have not seen Toys R Us or Wal Marts yet, although my husband does not allow me to shop at Wal Mart. He always tells me that if I want to kids to only be able to get a minimum wage job then keep shopping there. Funny thing is my cousin is a regional manager for Wal Mart and his dad is a district manager. They know I do not shop there and it bugs the crap out of them. Down south Wal Mart is THE thing!

I had alot of fun in White Cloud at Hooker's cabin. We would have fun shooting guns at all hours, watching Hooker drink cheap wine and rev up the fire with chain saw oil and old Christmas trees. Happy times, happy times...

Hooker do you remember going to that bar in your end of DH that had karaoke and yelling "YOU SUCK!!!" at the horrible singers...

I guess that may have been a few different bars, and now that I think about it, it was multiple times!

I love the Walmart even if they are considered the White Devil! Sorry I grew up in a union based family, but the way things are going today...unions are not what they once were. My step dad is dealing w/the PBGC which is a goverment agency left responsible for his pension due to his company going under...his pension is a 1/3 of what it should of been. My hubby currently works for a union, but when it comes down to these trying times...it's each for their own. So proud Walmart shopper here. And come on it's a catch 22, China is totally financing us right now, but if they wouldn't of taken all our jobs we wouldn't need them. So it's like sleeping w/the enemy..but you know what they say...keep your friends close, & your enemies even closer...so I sleep w/my China made cheap comforter.

Tara...I went to the website to see the deals...I put in GotaDeal.com vs. Gottadeal.com...it's a porn site. So beware be sure to use both T's...ROFL
