Gwen Norman (Martin)

ok totally off subject but, my Dad sent this to me and I had to share--brought a tear to my eye.
Adventure with Grandma
I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma. I was just a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the day my big sister dropped the bomb: 'There is no Santa Claus,' she jeered. 'Even dummies know that!'
My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her world-famous cinnamon buns. I
knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.
Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between
bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me. 'No Santa Claus!' she snorted. 'Ridiculous! Don't believe it. That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad. Now, put on your coat, and
let's go.''Go? Go where, Grandma?' I asked. I hadn't even finished my second world-famous, cinnamon bun. 'Where' turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything.
As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. 'Take this money,' she said, 'and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car.' Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.
I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten- dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for. I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church. I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He was a
kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out for recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that BobbyDeckerdidn't have a cough, and he didn't have a coat. I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement.
I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!
I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It
looked real warm, and he would like that. 'Is this a Christmas present for someone?' the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. 'Yes,' I replied shyly. 'It's ....
for Bobby.' The nice lady smiled at me. I didn't get any
change, but she put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.
That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in Christmas paper and ribbons (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) and wrote, 'To Bobby, From Santa Claus' on it -- Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she
drove me over to Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially one of Santa's helpers. Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. 'All right, Santa Claus,' she whispered, 'get
going.' I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his doorbell and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby. Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes. That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.
I still have the Bible, with the tag tucked inside: $19.95.

I think Robert was the brains behind the egging issue...

Ok Gwen, way to deep for me at present moment. I can't even read it right now. I have moments when I can take different things in, & I'm not in a place to cry right now! I'm in a clean mode. So I am writing to say...I may not be posting for at least the rest of this day. I am moving the computer room to the basement so I can give my oldest boy his own room. Trying to give the 2 some space away from each other. 14 months apart they too often get lumped together way to much...aka trying to keep them from killing each other...lol
I have only been trying to do this since September, but it's hard to do when I'm always on here...ROFL So here it is, I must say...see you all soon. Gotta do this remodeling of the rooms stuff. I'm also not thrilled w/moving the computer to the basement, but my hubby refuses to allow it in the bedroom. He says he competes enough w/the puter, he don't need to do it in there too. I feel like I am getting grounded from it...LOL

April Passen (Ochman)

Yes Shannon he was...but throwing them for someone else to clean, & eating them are 2 different things...lol Throwing them they become someone elses clean up issue.

April Passen (Ochman)

OK for real now...this is it. It don't matter who else posts. I am not responding to another post.

Shannon see you soon...I gotta unplug this thing...sniff! I'll try to make sure it's plugged back in tonight, but will see.

April,

Is the washer and dryer in the basement too?? Then you can pretend to do laundry too....

12/07/08 12:28 AM #1301

April Passen (Ochman)

I got the desk & the computer in the basement now! The best part is that the Game Cube is down here too, so it will seem like I am spending time w/my hubby, while he's playing his games, & I'm on the computer! I just need to get me a DVR for the basement, & I'll be stylin'.
Yes the laundry room is down here too, & your right what a great excuse to sit in front of the computer & fold clothes.

Oh I am so glad to see Jim signed on, you almost made me cry! Seriously...Thinking back to the Stidham parties, thank god his parents traveled, nothing like heated partying. I remember way to many times trying to party outside in the cold. Jim you reminded me so much of sometimes I thought I forgot, or was I just wanting to foget...lol So Jim what ever happened w/Gretchen? I remember you to together...it was totally a fire & ice relationship...either you were stuck together at the lips so in love, or screaming at the top of your lungs. Young love...teenagehood would of been much easier for all w/out the relationship drama. The whole Bro's before Ho's and vice versa Ho's before Bro's thing so should apply to all under 20, but back then we didn't see it that way.

Anyhow so how was everyone's weekend?

I have the DVR set & it's a new one so there should be no problems. I can't believe this is it! It's gonna be so sad! In less they come up w/a spin off.

12/09/08 09:03 AM #1305

April Passen (Ochman)

Wow...no one is typing these days? Robert you out there?
Dan where you been? Shannon? Even Gwen hasn't been ranting w/me. Tara its been a few.
So Tracey what did you think about Boston Legal? Wow did they just touch down on so many politically incorrect issues w/such finesse! LOL I love that they got married, now that was a great ending, maybe beginning for a spin off. I was thinking about it & David Kelly started off over at Fox, so keep your eyes open, but then again NBC has be looking for a new big show!?! What was your take on the Chinese taking over?

12/09/08 08:46 PM #1306

Poor April ... So hard up you even miss me LOL!! I had to go to the city council meeting last night :-). I have nothing to vent out tonight...so, talk to me

April Passen (Ochman)

Not hard up...you just are usually always on like me & it's been a minute for ya. I just gotta say, I started working again & still can find time to come on here. Shows ya how exciting my life is...lol Plus the damn Dish went out again...I am done w/them, but Wow has a great deal for me but can't get out until NEXT 12/17 Wednesday! So I have no TV because I told Dish to go fu*ck themselves, which only proved to be my loss w/no TV for 8 days...lol

Tara Wismar (Nickell)

April,
I would never have known that was you, never! I guess you just remember people the way you last saw them. That's why I didn't go to the reunion, I was skinny at that the last reunion, so people can just remember that way, lol! I have been busy shopping, I always get done really early and then spend the all the extra time shopping some more. I like to find things that I already had at an even better price and get my adjustments and then if they say it's been too long for an adjustment, I just buy it at the better price and take it back to get my money. I saved over $200 last year by doing that. I just hate sitting around waiting for the sales and then sometimes that dumb toy turns into a hard to get toy and then you can't find it. I started Christmas shopping for my kids in July, usually finish up by Halloween. Then I leave all the grown up gifts for December shopping! Can't help it, I like to shop.
I also joined the gym, so I have not had a lot of time. I LOVE going to the gym, I can't believe I waited so long. I should have waited until after the new year, maybe they would have had better deals, plus John is always so busy this time of year. Well, have to go, I want to get some wrapping done.

12/10/08 09:10 AM #1309

April Passen (Ochman)

Tara, I love to shop too, but always for others rarely myself. I usually do the same thing, start my shopping right around the time I start my school shopping. This year it is entirely different though, only a few thing I picked up before November. I quit my job to get my kids under contol, had 2 babysitters from hell, so had to make up for a lot w/time, which leaves little money. It's funny how when you make more you higher spending habits, still trying to adjust to lowering them...lol I am back to work now, but this job lets me make my own schedule so I don't need a sitter, but my 1st check isn't until the end of the month...so Christmas is going to be light & they'll get more come New Years...lol Our new Christmas. Also I have 2 of my kids birthdays in January so they will get a big bday to make up for lack of funding on Christmas.
About what I look like now...like Michele said some posts back, in adulthood I was able to stop worrying about my weight, not I worry about aging...lol And about a gym, I am still of the nature that believes the gym is to much work for me. I got the kids, 3 flights of stairs in the house & a flight to get out of the house, & to 40+ lbs boy that insists on still being carried most of the time so sitting is my goal...lol

Boston Legal was good. I like that the Sumpreme Court members were a bit more cordial towards Alan this time! HA They covered three episodes worth of cases this time. The Chinese pissed me off! Probably because there is a hint of truth to the fact that they are "buying America". However, I stand by my previous statements. It's not the people of China that are the problem, it's their government. If America is going to sell out to any other country then we get what we deserve. Chilling isn't it? I was really mad when the two chinese guys were sitting in Denny and Alan's seats on the balcony! I think a spin off could easily be done. We'll have to wait and see....I guess I still have The Office.

I have been incredibly busy with school. This week and next are finals week. Worked 11 hours straight last Friday writting essay exams. Yesterday was more exams in class and again tomorrow. Next Tuesday is my last real day and I have 4 hours of practical final exams then. It's been a great class. Learned lots about the joints of the body. Tendons, ligaments, nerves, joints capsules and all the pathologies that go along with them. Oh yeah, and muscles too. Learned some new techniques that can make grown men cry. (Ask me how I know!!!) hee hee

As for shopping, my son's birthday is Saturday and I haven't been to get him anything yet. Guess I'll go Friday. My husband actually gave me a Christmas list for himself this year. THANK GOD!! Don't want to get started on that one..I do most of my shopping online. No one is home (Bill went back to work! Huray)but me during the day now so packages from UPS go delivered unnoticed.

You are now up to date on me! :)

Tracey, I can totally agree w/you on China. I have mixed emotions...They are so much keeping our head about water, & have such great deals at the Walmart. But yes to think of what could happen w/their goverment pretty much owning us, does scare the shit out of me. So were damned if we do & damned if we don't kinda thing! I was pissed about them sitting in their chairs as well. I love that the supreme court justice preformed the marriages! Although I have always really liked the judge they brought w/them. And I love that it showed the importance of marriage is more then just being in heat for a person!

I love the whole romance thing between couples but honestly when that wears off you had better hope that there is real love there too. I think the show did a fine job showing that the love Denny and Alan have for each other is real and as far as I can see, it is no different from what most heterosexual couples end up with after the romance wears out. Best friends who are there for each other through it all and who knows you better than anyone else.

I agree, the judge they brought with to do the ceremony was my favorite although I loved how ornery that old white haired guy would get. He was cool too.

April-Things have been crazy in our house and this will continue until the new year. I don't get much time to get on the puter with work, Christmas crap and I'm also the Secretary of the Borough that I live in. Don't ask me why, because I have no idea. I have never been a secretary so I'm going with "lost my mind" as the answer. The crazy sh*t that people do to each other here in PA is FANTASTIC. The best was last nights meeting- a person had turned in his neighbor for building a shed without a permit. The neighbor who got the fine for not having a permit, gets his ass up in the middle of the night to set off his truck alarm so that it wakes his neighborhood up.... LOVE IT!!!

Robert - Did you hear the new Nickelback CD. FANTASTIC... but i'm a hugh fan so maybe it is just me.

12/10/08 06:44 PM #1314

April Passen (Ochman)

Oh now Tracey, wouldn't that of been great to of had the old homophobic (in the closet) Judge to of preformed the cermony...lol At you are so right, in the end of a good marriage you end up sitting on a swing talking about your sex life instead of having one, they are just ahead of the game!

Shannon...At one point I got into one of those perdictments w/an old neighbor that thanks the lord we all in this hood celebrated when they moved. Basicly, this was some years back...Bre was like 7, the other neighbors son was like 4, & this 10 year old evil child were in the 4 year olds swimming pool. Well this little boys mom looked out her kitchen window & called the boy in to ask what this 10 year old was up too...To shorten the story both 4 & 7 year old was telling almost to the t same story about this 10 year old trying to do a I showed you mine, now you show me yours to this little 4 year old. Well the 6 years olds mom went & told the dad of the 10, she in return denies...so the 4 yr old mom's came over to bitch to me about this dad beliving her...So he comes onto my porching telling us how are kids are lying...I just looked over & told him, you do your child no good by buying into her lies, he then starts to get pissy, so I told him "I thought it was your daughter that needed counseling, but I guess I am wrong. That it is you that needs some counseling." He then walks off yelling to his daughter not to play w/our kids anymore..YA THINK!!! So anyhow the 4 year mom, decided to make a police report about it. Next thing I know, animal control is at my door, cuz city only lets ya have 2 dogs, & I had 3. And little shit just continued until he moved. He thinks he had the ulimate burn by selling is house to an older Afican American lady, BEST NEIGHBOR ever! We ended up registering my 3rd dog at the 4 yr olds house. She didn't have a fence so it made perfect sense why it was always at my house! LOL Those were the worse 7 months ever!

Yawn, nothing to report--It has rained here so much today that I had to go out in the rain and dig a trench the backyard was so flooded I thought it might come over the porch/stoop. Something to be said about building on a cement slab.

I, myself, am pretty lucky. Our neighbors are great. We have a party every year, which is why I missed the last reunion. It fell on that weekend. We have a pig roast, moon bounce, cotton candy machine and of course, a keg. We bring out 2 TV's so that we can watch baseball and college football. There are only 16 houses on the court and everyone brings a dish and drinks... We want to shoot for live entertainment next year. It is like spring break but with old people.... LOL

12/10/08 07:39 PM #1317

Tracey Ulrich (Dawson)

There are only four houses/families on my street. Three of us built our houses at the same time on what was at the time the fourth neighbor's property split for sale. We all get along famously. Then one neighbor moved and sold their house to the family I'll refer to as "B".

Well B got along great with everyone until our two families' 4-wheelers began to throw gravel (we live on a gravel road) on to his lawn. Long story short, he ended up having a problem with everyone on our street. My neighbor for home schooling her kids, her husband for running a business from his pole barn, my other neighbor for her horses smelling when the wind shifted (I'm not kidding)her son for driving too fast down the road. Another neighbor because of a threat to leave his daughter alone, my husband because of the 4-wheeler etc.

He had a problem with everyone but me. Until we got our dog, Lily. Funny enough, he called me one day asking if I and the boys would like to attend his church for a seminar on Revelations. I politely declined and told him that I know about the book of revelations and that it did not follow my beliefs (big mistake, should have just said "no" and hung up the phone). Next thing I know, I am walking Lily down the road, off leash, and he comes out and starts yelling at me that she needs to be on a leash and me, of course standing firm on what is true, argue that it is a private road and that she in fact did not have to be on leash if I have her under control.

He was fuming! I basically told him to go blow and went home. Next thing I know Animal Control is knocking at my door. The guy was really nice and asked me what happened. Said his office got a call from some guy (my neighbor) who was ranting and raving about my dog etc. Animal Control guy said that because it is a private road I did NOT have to keep her on leash.

Anyway, neighbor "B" will often try to wave hello to me as I drive by but I just ignore him. I can forgive but I do not forget.

April Passen (Ochman)

Tracey I totally know what ya mean, mess w/me or my hubby, but not my animals or kids! I have a pretty great neighborhood now that the ass & his child are gone.

About religious beliefs...My hubby is 100% Polish Catholic. So being an open minded person, I agreed to allow my children to be baptisted Catholic for cultural purposes. My family are mixed breeds, only 100% anything was my grandfather & he was Romanian following Orthodox beliefs from a far. So anyhow, me & his mother go to the Catholic church to register for a baptism...well when the lady asked for my religion, & I stated Open Minded non-following Spiritual Christian...she replied...oh you mean your an atheist. I just snicker & say however YOUR church looks at it. Oh when my hubby found out, he went through the roof, cussing out his mom for not standing up for me, wanting to tell this woman off...I calmed him down & stated "see why I belong to my beliefs? I choose not to strike back, or pay into something so judgemental. This is why you will not be disappointed when our children decide to stray away from Catholism." The choose is total theirs, but the bond of sharing the culture from their 78 year old grandmother is worth allowing them to take this journey.

April Passen (Ochman)

Robert ...see all these ladies have been busy, but still could leave at least one post! Why not return the favor?

Now here's a joke for all of ya...

The Polite Way to Pee
During one of her daily classes, a teacher trying to teach good manners, asked her students the following question:

'Michael, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?' Michael said, 'Just a minute, I have to go pee.' The teacher responded by saying, 'That would be rude and impolite.'

'What about you Sherman, how would you say it?' Sherman said, 'I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I'll be right back.' 'That's better, but it's still not very nice to say the word bathroom at the dinner table.'

'And you, little Eddie, can you use your brain for once and show us your good manners?' 'I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope to introduce to you after dinner.'

The teacher fainted....
