Hey everybody,

Robert, I have a story that might distract you... My gigantic 73" TV literally blew up the other night - scared the life out of me. Smoke everywhere, the screen blew out and everything. I was upstairs and thought the furnace blew up or something. I was ready to pack up my cats in a suitcase and climb out the window before I realized there wasn't a huge fire spreading. I just bought a fire extinguisher too, so that was lucky. Of course, my neighbors thought that they heard a gunshot and called the police, who thought it was funny after they realized no one was shot and bleeding. The kicker? After everyone left and I started to calm down, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and realized I still had a mud mask all over my face!! I looked like the Bride of Frankenstein and everyone from my neighbors, to the cops, to the fire dept. all kept a straight face (until they got away from me anyway)!

So, being the queen of rationalization that I am, I thought I deserved a brand new 52" flat screen with a Bose surround system to replace the beast. It was a projection TV, so it really was a beast. Why couldn't it have blown up while it was still under warranty??

If you need another, remind me to tell you the middle of the night screaming spider story that brought the police to my door about 8 years ago.

Kathleen, Town Club Grape was the best ever!!!! I guzzled it like no tomorrow!

Great stories! I'm home from work again, so keep 'em coming.

I have a 'scary' story about the first home I bought when I was 25. I lived by myself and slept upstairs, when I heard a loud crash on the main floor. I came running down stairs w/ a baseball bast and searched every closet, corner, and the basement. I was frightened because I just knew someone was in there, but I was determined to go down fighting. Although, I think a gun beats a baseball bat most of the time.

Anyway, I went back to sleep around 4am and was getting ready to take a shower in the morning, when I noticed the little rack that help my shampoo, shaving cream, etc had fallen in the porcelain tub. whew!

I still need to share my Metallica/Lollapalooza story.

By the way, I've never had eggnog. I refuse to eat eggs, fish, or any type of condiment. Gross!

Tracy: I'm ashamed to tell you this, but I was prescribed Oxycotyn (sp?) this afternoon from the doctor. The pain has gotten worse. I'm hoping this does the trick w/ the rest of the drugs. Is it safe to drink a couple of shots of Jaegermeister?

Robert I just wrote you a long email regarding your situation and then hit something on the keyboard and it was gone. Let me know if you got it.

I didn't receive any messages, but took a couple of oxycodones (not oxycotyn) and feel a little buzzed. My wife went to a candle party (?), so I'm watching the girls, and listening to Sinatra.

Sinatra. You never fail to impress. I'll try again with the email.

My husband is home from Germany and we both need some attention so I'll check back in tomorrow.

Good night.

Cara- What a great story. I'm sure the police and fire departments will be talking about you for days... LOL

Now this is totally more like it! Robert Tracey is totally correct! Seriously try a REAL Massage therapist! I could not believe how much pain I was no longer in, I had pain I didn't even know I had. Also if that helps but not completely relieved after the first try, keep going & chase it with some acqupuncture for pain management! Ok so yes this will be an out of pocket, verse insurance coverage, but it is worth every penny!

And YEAH, Tracey! I know the feel of your glory! Up until 2003, a social worker licence could be uptained from many types of degrees, from socialology, psychology, to crimimalogy education...which honestly, did not teach all of the aspects to perform a social worker's job duties. So I know how excited you must me! Extreme congraduations!!!

Carla more stories you crack me up! You have me & Shannon in stitches.

Tracy: Thank you! I haven't tried any of it yet, but the new drugs are awesome. I slept like a baby last night, although I think itching is a side-effect. I have enough pills to get me through Thursday (meeting w/ the nuerosurgeon).

I'm watching Christina and listening to Barry White.

Ooo, Barry White!!

By the way, Happy Chinese New Year! Year of the Ox. My son Thomas was born in the year of the Ox, 1997.

If we were in China, we would be getting two weeks holiday and our employer would be giving us money in a red envelope (yearly bonus). There would be fireworks every night. It is really a fun time and everyone will be happy and celebrating. Many of the people in Shanghai will takes this time off to travel back to their home village to be with family. The new middle class will go on holiday to Hainan Island, the equivilant of the Carribean for us.

I kind of miss China.

April Passen (Ochman)

Wouldn't it be nice to have a national set time line off of work with a bonus to boot? Think this is what the stimulus checks are suppose to be? Maybe then they should of given us time paid off work to spend it! Just a theory. Tracey I just relized this year that 2 of my children are not the Chinese animal I thought they were, because they were born January 4 & 23, they are considered the year prior. So one day I'll have to figure out their animal again.

OK GM just anounced 2000 job cuts, that was not the time off I was referring too!!!

DHL is closing down most of its shipping too, so that's 34,000 more! It is so scary. I am so thankful to have a good job. I just hope I keep it! Companies don't exactly want to pay huge legal fees right now. My billable hours have been down for quite some time. There have been a ton of layoffs in my field in the area.

On a lighter note... scary spider story.

About 8 years ago I was living in a condo building that didn't have the thickest walls in the world. Now keep in mind I am normally a panic silently inside kind of person...I am not a screamer. Anyway, it was the middle of the night and I was dozing off to sleep with the TV on and I opened my eyes to a HUGE spider dangling right in front of my nose. I swear, this thing had eyes and was staring at me!! Well, I screamed bloody murder, which I have never done! The poor old lady next door must have thought I was being murdered and called 911. They were there with sirens blazing in 2 minutes flat, which was actually kind of comforting to know. When I opened the door they asked if everything was all right and then they held a sign up saying to blink once if there was anyone standing next to me. I didn't want to open the door because I was wearing scooby doo pajamas not because I was being held hostage! I was really cold, all right? The funny thing is when I let them in, they looked for the spider for me and that damn spider flew through the air right at one of their faces and he screamed! I felt so justified then, but that poor old lady probably didn't know what to do. I'm surprised she didn't call 911 again. Those cops did a great public service though in killing that thing!

Hey Cara, do you work for DHL? Just curious what part? I use to work for FX Coughlin, which was purchased by Exel, which was purchased by DHL after I left there, and I have a really good friend that still works for DHL in the logistics part of it (if that makes sense) in the Livonia office.

LMAO, Cara that was just to damn funny! I loved that story! I am not one who at all is easily spooked, but the out of no where spider in front of your face gets me every time, also the kids sneaking up behind ya when your deep into typing. Now I will freak out to bugs bigger then a grasshopper...can't stand those palmetto bugs, scorpians..I have been know to sleep with a can of bug spray while visiting in Florida.

Now see I got a story for ya...my neighbor calls me, tells me that she heard someone at her backdoor trying to get in, she thought it was that her hubby who works midnights & just left had forgot something, so when she pulled back the curtain to scare her hubby, she said this white guy in a wife beater was trying to open her door & that she scared him as bad as he did her...I got running outside porch light on, baseball bat in one hand, flash light in the other...I have alerted 2 others neighbors, & my hubby on the hunt for this guy...Cops show up, were all searching...my hubby then asks the neighbor, was he bald? She said yeah why...he was in the other neighbors house peeking out the window...the neighbors boyfriend was drunk & went to the wrong house...how embrassing for him...But from that momment on...I became the one everyone in the neighborhood calls...cause I'm the idoit from the spooky movies who goes looking for the bumps in the night...but I am always prepared with either a baseball bat or knife but like Robert said...no match for a gun...or Michael Meyers.

Just catching up on my reading here as the book I am reading is in the truck and it is too cold to go and get it! Husband went next door to tune, wax and whatever else he does to snowboards. He brings them home now instead of having to do them at the store. Lucky me, he only has 3 so I wont be seeng him until 1 or so.
Anyone know how to get a cat to stop spraying everything outside. There are three stray cats, many thanks to lady across the street that keeps feeding them. All of a sudden these cats show up all day and all night, we noticed them spraying a car across the street and now John says he can smell it outside by the other house. I know moth balls works but anything else. I told John to put the live trap (we had ground hogs this last summer and our dogs would not leave them alone, so we had to trap them and take them to their new home) and catch them and take them to the pound. There is nothing worse than that smell and there is no way I am gonna smell it this spring when we can finally open a window. I know a lot of you like cats so I apoligize but you have to admit the smell of cat spray is nasty! I know there is a leash law in our city but it is never enforced except when the owner of a cat called on my mother in lae for her spraying it with a hose, then they come out and tell you that you can't do that and to call them because of the leash law. Yea right. One thing I can't figure out about some cat people is: if you love them then how can you let them run around and be in the road? I could never let my dogs out and know they stand the chance of getting ran over. I never got that. Anyhow, any suggestions?

April Passen (Ochman)

Tara...I have 2...one is Cinnamon sticks, I hear that chases away the cats, but I am sure once the stick looses its seems so does the effect. The other is how to get rid of the smell. At Meijer there is this stuff called Urine Gone, it does wonders...with 2 puppies in the last year I should buy stock in it.

I have 3 cats & 3 dogs...all are pretty much in door animals, except for the dogs to allow them to pee, but of course with the new puppy, she runs in as fast as she can to pee in the warm house, little as*hole! The simplest way to stop a cat from spraying, is to have it fixed! But of course this doesn't work when idoits let there cats out, that usually means they let them breed too. How you liking facebook? I'm starting to get use to it. My favorite part is the ability to private chat.

April,
I googled about stray cats and this one lady said she lives in New York and had abput 17 stray cats all of a sudden and they were all spraying and people told her to catch them and have them all fixed. Yea, I would fix other peoples cats especially 17 of them! I think people that let their cats run are jerks. And people that let their dogs run are jerks, too! Why do people get pets and then not care.
I hope the house breaking gets better for you. We waited until the weather was nice to get our puppies, didn't matter. Lets just say they spent a lot of time in their little play yard. They got the hang of it. Our first dachshund never and I mean never had a house breaking accident. It was one of those weird things, we got him in Florida and he was an outside dog for the first 6 weeks of his life, maybe that was why. He was simply the best dog. Then we got these two little "weiners" and thought it would be the same, wrong! It took them the better part of the summer to figure it out but they eventually did figure it out. One of them, the girl, I think, chewed my new family room table on New Years Day and ever since then they have been put back in the kitchen when we leave, kind of a pain but I can't have them chewing up my tables. Well, I am off to bed early tonight.
I signed up at facebook just to see what all the hype was. I can't figure it out. I am not really in to that stuff but I usually sign up just to see what it like.

Ok, the cat thing.
I appreciate your opinions on the "no cat outdoors thing". I worked for three years for a vet in Indy and I've seen and heard all sides of the debate. Call me an idiot, my cats are indoor/outdoor. I don't equate letting them go outdoors with not being loving and responsible. I have had my two cats since they were 8 weeks old, neutered at 12 weeks and this summer they will be 16 YEARS old.

When we transferred to England, we elected not to bring them with us as England has a six month quarantine law for North American pets. England does not have rabies and they want to keep it that way. We didn't think keeping our cats in 2x2 cages for six monthes was even a consideration. We asked my sister-in-law to move into our Michigan house and live with the cats which she did for 18 monthes until we returned at which time we kicked her out and kept the cats! :0

When we moved to China, we took them with us. We lived in an apartment so they became indoor only. There was also the concern that one of the locals might take them home in a to-go bag. They did NOT enjoy being indoors after being able to be outdoors.

I suppose it helps that we live on 5 acres and our neighbors, all three of them, live on a dozen acres each. They love to be outside and I know dozens of people who have very happy indoor only cats. I just choose to let mine out.

As a side note, I believe that a cat's independent nature allows it to get along outside better than a dog. It doesn't seek out people and seems more aware of it's surroundings while on the prowl.

We have a dog too. And she has an underground fence system. She has a lot of yard to run around in. It isn't until I take her to the park however and let her off lead that she really runs and I swear it is the epitome of joy! I think animals are just more in their natural element outside.

Not sure what to tell you about the spraying except it really is the most awful, most difficult smell to be rid of. Cat urine has a lot if ammonia in it so something to counteract to ammonia.

That was a long two cents worth! Sorry to drone on...

Hooker, you have to crush the oxies before you snort them. The effect will ease your pain alot quicker.

Massage therapy takes too long and it is not as exciting. Of course rehab, I heard, takes some time too.

The Who are always in need of money. That's why they were touring so much before Entwistle died (he used to crush his oxy too) he was bankrupt and needed quick cash. They have been selling their catalogue for some time.

Norman Greenbaum sang "Spirit in the Sky" every 60's movie has this song. He says it still pays his bills and he has kept the rights to this day. That's pretty smart.

The whole Beatles sell out is really disapointing.

There is your music lesson for the day!

Hey Debbie, I don't work for DHL... I work in a law firm. It just made major news around here.

April, I can't believe you went running around after that guy with a bat! That's hilarious... I've heard strange noises and went searching around the house with a kitchen knife and pepper spray, but if I ever actually saw anyone, I would probably run away! I watch way too many horror movies. Speaking of which, I can't wait for the new Friday the 13th that's coming out!!
