I don't mind music in movies. Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies, in part because of the music.

I feel a bit insulted to here it in tv ads. I'm not sure why.

Ok...Tracey...I as you have heard both sides of the story. While growing up we always had indoor/outdoor cats, which really was a problem with living on Monroe! Had a few get flatened.

But honestly, it is more about the spaying & neturing that is the really problems. I personally decided to keep the indoor only for a coupld of reasons...first off, we had 6 cats, always up to date on their shots, 1 got Feline Luk, the other FIP, even though both were immunized. The other of course is the I live 3 houses from Fort St, so yes it could even be worse then Monroe in results of flatening...The other, I refuse to immunize my cats now for the last 12 years, I do what I gotta to get them fixed, & thats the last shot!!! My mom's indoor/outdoor cat lived 19 years (she was mine, but when they moved to FL, she had actually become my step dad's yard cat, she loved to help him in the yard.)

Cara, I heard from Colleen Campbell that "My Bloody Valentine" in 3D was the best! She said it ain't the bad 3D we grew up on, that she was shaking in her shoes.

About Music selling out, well with it being so easy to pirate off the internet, what other oppositions do they have other then $200 seating for concerts? I mean if Jordan can sell us underwear, why not have the Beatles sell me my car insurance...what would be cool is Alice Cooper's "Only women Bleed" for a tampon commerical.

Thanks April. I'll never listen to that song the same way again! :)

Me neither!! :) I think the guys are grossed out right about now!

I am dying to see My Bloody Valentine! The original was the quintessential 80's horror flick that I would rent from Adray's on Beta all the time!

What can I say, it is a strength & a weakness of mine, to just put it out there! It's the Aries in me, Hardheaded & blunt! I do have manner's though, but I rarely use them.

I don't know about all you not in MI, but I think I've gone beyond cabin fever already! Damn it this cold, & snow stuff has to stop! I can't even get into my backyard to pooper scoop.

April, I love it - you say what everyone else won't! We need you!

We had an ice storm last night, so I have definitely had enough. Spring feels so far away!

And it also seems like we just skipped right over fall! My poor kids school has a mountain of snow lined in front of the parking lots, you can't even see the vechiles! I just got back from the doctor's office, & she confirmed it, I am allergic to my kids! Those little suckers keep getting a little sick, & giving it to me knocking me down now for 2 weeks. I have been living off of Vitimin B12, & ibuprofin to wake like I am "amoung the living", ha Anthrax quote there. I just couldn't take it anymore so I turned to the dark side, Antibodics for everyone! Well of course except hubby & daughter they are healthy so far...I am so jealous.

Robert, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Good Luck with the MRI.

Listening to Roy Orbison. Never liked him as a kid but have been a fan since hearing him with the Traveling Wilburys.

You guys said it, I am so sick of winter, too! I think I am one of those people that get really depressed in the winter.
April, my little girl has been so sick for the last three days, she looked so bad yesterday that we were was ready to take her to the E.R. (We are not the kind of people that run to the E.R. for anything and everything, in almost 8 years, we only took each child once and one was admitted) I have never seen a kid look so bad, it actually was scary. I knew if she was no better today that she had to go to the Dr.s. But at 5:49 this morning, she woke up (next to me, of course, I would not let her sleep in her room, which was probably a mistake as she has been sleeping in her room) anyhow, we were face to face and we both opened our eyes and she looked at me and said really loud "OINK" I started cracking up and then she said it again and went back to sleep. I knew then that she back to her old self and she was. She looked and felt 90% better today. I will still keep her home from pre-school tomorrow.
I have to go to Dr tomorrow, my blood pressure has been really (really) high and I am too lightheaded (more than usual) so we will see what she has to say. She is the kind of Dr that just refers you to other Dr.s. That reminds me, I should look around for a new Dr. I dislike going to the Dr, you know they all have those scale things and actually make you get on them. I am kind of anxious to see though as I joined a gym and have been using my treadmill daily and I have been watching everything I eat. I have finally waged war on the baby fat stuff!
Well, lots of stuff to do. Just wanted to let you I do not like winter either!

Robert-I hope all goes well for you today... I have to be medicated to be put into a MRI. Freaks me out...

Robert...you gotta give us feedback ASAP, we all been praying for the best!

Tracey, you will be happy to know that in Flat Rock they did a raid & closed down one of those bad "massage" places. Sadly enough, a hubby & wife were involved & he was allowing her to partake in the EXTRA massages activities. They were oriential I presume by their names, Yin, Chomg, & Kim as last names. Hopefully more will come to an end with the need to be licenced.

Tara, I definately know I do not like cold! I think a short 2-3 weeks of winter, to watch through a window, or a 1 time in fresh snow play...but thats about all I can handle of winter. I think I could enjoy winter much better if I could truly get away with hibernating...I love to sleep, but there ain't no way they will happen. I actually think I love to sleep so much, because it sure seems like I just don't get enough. I only sleep 5-6 hours a day, once in a week, like if we have a snow day, & sometimes on the weekend, I get 8 or 10 once. I have had my oldest kid home once this week for earaches, 2 times last week for nose & throat, then 2 days the week before that because the school said he had "pink eye", which I had to take him to the doctor & treat, to just end up finding out it was the first sign of this nasty cold that is circulating my house. And I just got to say, the damn school keeps sending them out to play in this nasty shit if the weather is not in single digits...AHH wonder why they are sick! My daughter's school doesn't send them out in this shit, next year I've decided that my other son will deal with 1/2 kindergarten & go to Riverview schools.

April,
I think I should quit talking about sick kids! At 2:30 this morning I heard the boys making the mad dash to the bathroom! Little John is home with the stomach flu. Ryann just had this about 2 weeks ago and nobody else got it. There have been many kids in John's class that have been out this week and last. I can't stand for my kids to be sick, not even a runny nose. I told Ryann that today was whisper day, I don't think she heard me. John's school has been having recess in the gym and the hallways when the gym is full. I think they try to have the whole school at once (it is a small school, only 14 kids in last years 1/2 day kindergarten class, I loved it)
Are you sure Riverview will have 1/2 day next year? I thought I heard that all Michigan schools were going to start full day, which I think is BS! It is more for the working parents than the kid. I think a full day is too much for any 4 or 5 year old. Ryann will have to go full day and I am not sure how she will handle it. At the very least they should wean them into it. Maybe the fist 8 or so weeks 1/2 day then every other day for a few weeks a full day. They should just not expect a little kid to be away from home and mom or dad or caregiver for a full day right from day 1. O.K. now I have vented!
I had to cancel my appointment as my husband could not take any time off today to stay with the kids so I had to cancel. Ryann has decided to have a marathon of 101 & 102 Dalmations, lucky me. She, of course, has to watch them on the bog t.v. and not in her room. Whatever works today!
How is the puppy coming along? I bet you pretty much watch her grow. Mine are playing right now, under a blanket, too cute!
Hope everyone has a good day!

You all are not going to like me.

Little kids get sick more often than older kids because their immune system is still developing. I know its a pain in the butt but it really is good for them to get these little illnesses, it strengthens their bodies.

Also, my oldest went to full day kindergarten when he was 4 years old. We lived in England at the time and that is the norm there. When we returned stateside, my youngest started full day kindergarten and we never had a problem.

It's a personal choice. We all do what we think is right as parents and we all know it is the hardest job any of us can do.

Did we share lockers in high school? How were they assigned? Do any of you remember who your lockermate was? I just don't remember.
I only remember having a locker on the second floor next to Mr Eglington's room. Did they actually lock? I often have a dream that I'm in the school at my locker and I can't get it open because I've forgotten the combination.

Tara Wismar (Nickell)

Tracey,
I guess I have a hard time letting anyone have my kids. I think that goes way back to the NICU, for the first month or so, I felt like my little baby was theirs and not mine. So maybe that it is. My mother in law even gets upset that we never let her babysit. Hey, when you do not go anywhere, you do not need a babysitter. I guess it is safe to say, I am a Old mother hen. One of the other NICU dads actually nick-named my husband that "Mother Hen" when we see him he still calls my husband that. It does not bother my husband one bit!

I think we shared lockers in school. Although, I had cosmetology and our lockers were way down by the pool. They were the big fat lockers and that was the only kind of locker that would fit our ugly great big blue cosmetology case! I was always late for class when I had to go to my locker. I think they passed out combinations in homeroom.
It has been a very quiet day here, I am letting Ryann paint and she will sit there and paint for an hour without saying a word, which is rare! I have been ironing for a couple hours. My New Year resolution is to get all my kids clothes and toys, etc... posted on Ebay and to start getting the other house emptied out! So far I have 5 huge totes, all ironed and folded, pictures taken and sorted by size ready to be listed. These are just my daughters. I still have a lot of my sons and a TON of baby stuff to do! I love it and have a lot fun doing it!

I am sure a lot of us will get used to full day kindergarten thing but you have to admit, todays teachers are not like Mrs. Rensberry. If they were it would be much easier to send them.

Ok, as for sickness I totally agree Tracey, but I think it is sad that in preschool they make you wash your hands as soon as you walk in the door, & then in kindergarten, the whole concept is lost! I think that the practice of washing hands right when they walk in the door should be continued at least in kindergarten, because not all of those kids went to preschool.

As for 1/2 verse full...I have 2 kids born in January, & one in March, so they are 6 before kindergarten is over. So far the oldest which is a January baby had a 1/2 day, she so needed the full day, she loved to learn & was never a napper. 2nd one another January baby is currently in full day, now he is struggling...he struggled in preschool as well, & I honestly think that his preschool teacher left a bad impression of school on him. She was an old meanie who really didn't seem to like kids. He has a great kindergarten teacher...but she has 31 kids in her class. I think the full day would work alot better if they had 2 teachers for it, the class should not be larger then 20, preferably 15. You have such a mixture of kids that have never been to school like setting, as well as those who are starting at 4. And to be honest as of 2003, I know the kindergarten was a choice not mantated by law, not sure if this is the case now, & know not many people knew about it then...but I couldn't imagine waiting till 1st grade to get them started. Now I will say that my youngest who is a March baby, loves preschool & enjoys learning but he has a good teacher. 1st impression are so important!

I was just talking with Ryann's pre-school teachers the other day and the kindergarten thing came up. No it is still not mandatory in Michigan. You can keep them home. I do know several people that have had to have hold their child back for another year of kindergarten. We held John back and it was the best thing we could have done for him. Kindergarten is not what it used to be. John is in first grade and is a good reader. It seems the whole focus of first grade is reading. I love when he talks to me and then all of a sudden he will spell the next word he is going to say. It is amazing what their brains absorb. I think teachers have a lot to do with it, of course they do. John's kindergarten teacher was kind of scattered brained (he will have her again next year as she now teaches 2nd grade) but this years teacher has been really good. Too bad she will she be going out in a few weeks on maternity.

Thomas started preschool in England and the teacher was new and a real problem. Thomas started biting the other kids and he never displayed that behavior at home. I took him out and kept him at home with me.

My kids go to a charter school(chartered by Central Michigan University) here in Holly. They have small class sizes and the kindergarten always has two teachers. The enrollment has kept increasing over the years because it is such a great school and instead of increasing class size, they add more classes. This year they added a fourth kindergarten.

The best part of the school is that it runs through 8th grade. All the teachers know all the students because it is all on the same campus. They are talking about adding a high school but I don't know that it will be in time for Brad. He is in 7th grade this year.

Hey guys, just thought I would chime in here....about the age in which to go full day kindergarten. In my opinion, it depends on the family. If the parents read/play/interact with their children rather than let TV babysit them, staying home until 5 would be wonderful. But sadly, too many parents work FT and don't have/want to put in the extra time/effort it takes. In those cases I think school would be the better choice.
My situation was a bit different since my oldest is deaf. Because we didn't catch it until he was 15 months, his language was severely delayed and they put him into 1/2 day hearing impaired preschool at the age of 2!!! He even took a cab/bus to school at 2 1/2. By 3, when he received his cochlear implant he was going to school full days and in my opinion, today, is fully mainstreamed in middleschool able to spell at 4 years higher than his peers because he started school so early. My youngest, who started kindergarten 1/2 days at age 4 (due to his birthday falling in Nov) does not spell so well and struggles much more than his brother. Granted, all children learn differently and excel in different areas, so I really shouldn't compare the 2, however, I can't help but wonder if the additional years of school for the oldest played some part in it.

Here is PA they start the kids on 1/2 day kindergarden for about two weeks. They start out every other day as well. They add additional days and hours until they are up to full day/5 days a week. I feel preschool is very important for children. They are short hours with basic skills on the education side but also teach children the social skills that will be needed when starting regular school. Building up their social confidence is very important I believe. Starting a child on the path to independence is harder on the parent than the child. I have 7th grader and a 9th grader. I can tell you there is NOTHING harder than navigating a child, in this day and time, through middle school and high school. I see now how important establishing confidence and independence were to my children in those early years.
