David Freedman

FREEDMAN DAVID L, M.D., J.D. Born in Ohio March 10, 1951, died August 21, 2001. He is survived by his wife Teri, and two daughters Elizabeth and Becky; his mother, Helen A. Freedman of Homosassa, Florida and his brother James D. Freedman and his sister-in-law Sandra, both of Sudbury, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his father Jerome D. Freedman who died on June 15,2000. He was raised in Dearborn, Michigan, attended Edsel Ford High School and graduated with distinction and Phi Eta Sigma Men's honorary from the University of Michigan in 1973 and continued at the University of Michigan receiving his medical degree in 1977. Following graduation, he completed his Family Practice residency in 1980 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1984, Dave was affiliated with the Emergency Physicians Medical Group and worked in emergency medicine. Dave received great satisfaction from his position in the Emergency Department at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital from 1984 to 1996 and at Chelsea Community Hospital from 1996 to 1999. He was Program Medical Director for Huron Valley Ambulance. He was the Executive Editor of ED Legal Letter. He began the transition to his law career at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. soon after his graduation from the University of Michigan Law School, cum laude, in 1997. At Miller, Canfield. Paddock, and Stone, P.L.C, he continued his interest in health care by practicing health care law from 1997 to the present. Dave was associated with numerous professional associations including the State Bar of Michigan, the Washtenaw County Bar Association, the American Academy of Emergency Physicians, the Michigan State Medical Society and the American Heart Association. In addition to his professional associations, Dave enjoyed fly fishing and other outdoor activities which he shared with his wife in northern Michigan. Most of all his favorite activities included attending his daughters' sports activities. He shared a special camaraderie with his daughter Becky who also attended the University of Michigan. Dave was very proud as he watched Elizabeth begin her teaching career. His friends remember him at a supportive and helpful friend. He had a tremendous sense of humor and frequently was prepared with a little prank.
