Marriage:
In 1987 my husband and I meet through a sail program learning to sail with the American Youth Hostels which is now American Sailing Institute. We purchased a home in Harrison Township on the Clinton River that goes out to Lake St. Clair. We have owned a pop-up trailer, motor boats and a 26 ft S2 Sailboat when our daughters were in school. When we retired we purchased a sturdy ocean veering 35 ft Island Packet to sail the Great Lakes and the ocean. We also purchased a travel trailer to tour the USA and the National Parks. In 2021 we accomplished our 5th Great Lake in Lake Ontario and going down the Erie Canal. Next year we plan to start the ocean by going down the St Lawrence River then to Nova Scotia and down the Alantic Ocean Coastline. Enjoying traveling in Retirement by boat or land.
My husband, Vic retired from Chrysler Fiat in 2015 working as a Factory Information System Project Manager to the different Chrysler Plants. I am proud of the work and projects he has contributed to, such plants as Jefferson North that builds the Grand Cherokee, Mac Engine Plant in Detroit and Chrysler plants in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Involvements:
Our involvements now seem to be involved with family and traveling. We belong to 2 boating clubs: North Star Sail Club off the Clinton River, and I am the Fleet Chaplain and Vic was the past Editor of the Newsletter. We also belong to the Great Lake Cruising Club that involves people from all over the Great Lakes with boats of all kinds. Each year they do a Rendezvous in one of the Great Lakes and then we would tour that Lake. We bought our boat in in 2015 off Lake Superior near Duluth, MN and started our Lake Navigation Tours. One year the Rendezvous was in the North Channel in Canada of Northern Lake Huron, our favorite place with all the islands and coves to anchor in. We also enjoyed navigating Lake Michigan with all it's beautiful shoreline. Coming to Chicago by boat is a beautiful way to see the skyline, besides a marina is cheaper than a downtown hotel. Vic developed a web seminar for the club and used my pictures on Navigating around Lake Michigan to encourage others to do the same, we then both presented it. We have also chartered sailboats in the British Virgin Islands (and Connie Martinka my High School friend joined us) and the Greek Isles. We will see where our sailboat named "Inspiration" takes us.
In retirement I also started taking Water Color Art Classes, something I always wanted to do. Also as a older adult I started playing the Celtic Harp and learning the Therapeutic Harp Techniques, while my husband started the violin. We got away from the instruments with our busy work situations and hope to bring them back out in retirement. I also got involved in Integrative Medicine and learned several energy modalities such as Reiki and Healing Touch that brings about healing of body, spirit and mind. At Mt. Clemens Hospital I taught Integrative Health Classes to the community. I am still enjoying it in retirement.
