Brian and I were on the swimming team together and swam the same events our senior year. I remember him as being a quiet person but also a hard worker. He was a good teammate.
Brian Fleming was my friend and next door neighbor. His family were avid hunters so had all the guns and gear. We hunted ducks in the marshland of Lake Comus a few seasons. Brian was also co-builder of an ice boat that sailed for many seasons on Delavan Lake and Lake Geneva. His dad had connections with famed Melges boat works for sailing special parts. Brian and I were good friends.
I had tried to find Brian for decades and recently contacted a Fleming cousin in Lake Geneva at Fleming's Limited (now permanently closed- Covid?). He directed me to Brian's older brother, Dermott, a retired dentist living in northern Michigan, near Bliss. Dermott told me that Brian had been mostly estranged from family. Brian attended UW Plattevile for five semesters and then served in the Navy for three years onboard ship as steam fitter in Vietnam theater and Mediterranean Sea. A cousin would periodically see Brian in Delafield area public settings. He found Brian in the obits after a long hiatus. Brian died June, 2015. RIP Brian.
I grew up just around the corner from Brian and Darryl. We spent 13 years in school together. We all could be found after dinner in the street or in a neighbors' large yard playing Kick The Can and various other games. Our parents would call us in just before dark. I remember those days fondly. We had wonderful fun and were all friends. Wish we had some movies to show our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thanks Darryl and Terry for the comments about Brian. Wonderful to take a moment to remember the fun, laughter and friendships. I am thankful for them all.
I didn't know Brian all that well. I remember his sister and, Derm, his older brother who was our assistant Scout Master in Troop 43. Derm was one of our leaders on our first trip to Isle Royale. I am grateful that Terry, Darryl, and Kathy shared such good memories of Brian with us all. It's great to reflect a moment on the old neighborhood kids and the fun that was had together, the memories created. Thom Holden
i also remember Brian being on the swim team and being quite good. I also think it is a wonderful way to remember classmates by those who knew him well, share with the rest of us stories about him. As we get older, i think it is the stories of our youth are the most fun to talk about as we were so different then. Thanks to all of you for helping me remember Brian. Being estranged from his family must have been challenging for all involved. May his memory be a a blessing to us all. Judie Werbel Sage
It is fun to read all your comments about Brian. It is a pleasure to see each of your comments and I'm so happy you are all still here! Living on the other side of the "big City" I never knew much about your neighborhood. I cherish all of the memories of our great class and the classes around us. Take care and be safe! Here is for hoping 2021 is much more fun for us all! RIP Brian! RIP to each of our classmates. We were so lucky to grow up in Delavan-Darien! Another note of appreciation to Mike Duesterbeck and each of you that helped Johnny Mac! I am happy John is back home! Mike is such an amazing friend to us all!
