Debby Seibert Ruffin

Profile Updated: September 8, 2019
Residing In: White Post, VA USA
Spouse/Partner: Thom Ruffin, retired from Armada Analytics
Occupation: Retired from BAE Systems Inc.
Children: Thom and I each had two daughters when we married 24 years ago. We now have 12 grandchildren and one More…great granddaughter.

Wendy is Director of Managed Care and Credentialing. She has been married for 18 years to Brian who retired from the Navy after 20 years and now works for the Army Corp of Engineers. They live in Winchester, VA where we are, and have two children - Madeline (named for my mother) is 16 and a junior and always busy, and a son, Sterling-age 13, who attends Massenutten Military Academy here in Virginia.

Suzanne and Steve have been married 21 years, and live in Falling Waters, WV right on the Potomac about 45 minutes from us. She had an international career until medical conditions required she retire. Steve retired from the State Dept. They have only one son - Michael, who just received his Master’s Degree working to get his PhD.

Leslie and her husband, Ben, live in Williamsburg, VA, where Ben retired from the Air Force and now works for the government and teaches several college courses. Lesley and Ben have been married 28 years. Our granddaughter, Jordan, has survived two different cancers, has gotten her degree and married Cameron in July. She works for Booze, Allen, Hamilton in Washington, and Cameron graduated from UVA, and is an engineer with an international paint company. Jacob is a junior at Virginia Tech., and is in an award-winning acappella group with plans to teach.

Amy and Jeremy live in Franklin, TN and have 7 children- Lincoln is a landman in Fort Worth, Texas. Emma married Nathaniel, a Canadian she attended college with, who attends a seminary and is a part time minister at a church in Charlotte, NC. They are the parents of our beautiful great granddaughter, Ada, now two. Jackson, not being one to sit behind a desk, works construction and plays the cello with Christian groups - quite a contrast. Julia is a senior in high school busy with life. Stuart is a freshman and Lee is a 8th grader - both are homeschooled. Lastly, Jefferson, is a busy four year old. There is quite a range of ages in this family.

Interestingly, three of our daughters, one son-in-law, and two of our grandchildren work or have worked part time for Thom’s former division of Armada Analytics performing commercial real estate audits nationally. They would all say “thanks for nepotism”!
Yes! Attending Reunion
Comments:

I enjoyed my business career having opportunities I never would have thought possible; however, I am enjoying every second of retirement. To keep in touch with business, I still do some consulting work. The rest of the time is spent doing whatever I decide for that day. I still spend a great deal of time working on genealogy - a hobby since I was in my 20's, and antiquing. I have had a blessed life.

As you may remember, my mom (as most of you knew her-"Madge") died of cancer of colon when I was 20, and my dad ("Beans") died at the age of 83 from Alzheimer's during the years we were transferred back to Texas. My only brother and sibling, Guy, died from lung and bone cancer which broke my heart! However, we had some great travels together all over the world and US. In fact, we were fly fishing in Colorado four months before he died with none of us realizing he was ill, not even him.

I married originally Jerry Wauson from Seminole, who played football at TCU. After 17 years of marriage, we decided to pursue different lives. I am married to a wonderful man from Fort Worth, Texas. We worked together for the FDIC in Baton Rouge, Kansas City and Washington, DC., and were married at the Custis-Lee Mansion in Washington. We first lived in Alexandria, Va, and then Thom’s job took us to Texas where we lived in Waxahachie for 7 years prior to being transferred back to Washington where we lived in Fairfax and later Winchester, Va. a very historic town organized in 1752 in the Shenandoah Valley. Winchester, is about 45 minutes away from Dulles Airport, and yet an entire world away. We love the history, mountains, trees and water...I even enjoy the snow! The town has the survey office of George Washington and the headquarters of Stonewall Jackson. It is a great area to visit!

This year, Thom retired and we made the decision to downsize and are in the process of building a new home in a 55+ community in White Post, Va. immediately outside of Winchester. In 1760, Gen. George Washington drove a white directional post in the ground, and the small community that developed was named “White Post”, and the National Historic Site post continues to be maintained! We should move into our new home in a mid-September this year. We hope to spend many happy years in this home!

School Story:

My parents were Denver City pioneers having moved there in 1939. Having lived in Denver City in the old Shell Camp all of my life, I grew up with almost everyone we graduated with. Although I left for Texas Tech in January 1969 and missed graduation, I will always cherish the fact that I grew up in a small, West Texas town of Denver City with such wonderful friends and parents of friends. There, the "Village" did raise each of us! I am only sorry our children and grandchildren cannot know the freedoms we enjoyed walking and riding our bikes in the pastures and across town to meet friends without fear! It is a wonderful place to be from!!!

Connie, Wishing you a very happy birthday. Read where Allen was ill. I certainly hope his health is good now, and all is well with you and yours! See you at the next reunion.

Thom and I, and friends from Texas, were out to dinner at an old, grand hotel in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Note the neat mural on the wall painted by some really talented person!

Our oldest daughter, Wendy, along with husband Brian, granddaughter Madeline, and grandson Sterling. The "Super Family" at Halloween (an older, but favorite photo). Wendy is CFO of a hospital system here in Virginia, and Brian is retired after 20 years Navy serving as a Corpsman with the Marines. We are very proud of his military career. He was in Somolia, and Iraq twice leaving the first time when Madeline was 5 days old! He is presently finishing a degree. Madeline is now 6, and attends kindergarten. Sterling is about to be 3, and goes to day care at the hospital where his mom can peek out and see him on the playground! Note the red hair!

Our youngest daughter, Suzanne, along with her husband Steve, and our grandson, Michael is almost 16. Suzanne is president of her company that does international business. She has traveled far and wide - something like 34 counties, with many 3rd world. She spend a lot of time in Vietnam, and I traveled with her once. Her husband, Steve, works for the Dept. of State, and Michael's life is football and now his driving permit! Hard to believe I have a grandson who is 6'2" tall.

Our next to the oldest is Lesley, and her husband Ben, our granddaughter Jordan now 13, and grandson Jacob who is 11. Lesley is a nurse by degree, but choose to be a stay-at-home mom running kids everywhere. Ben is retired after 23 years in the Air Force. Again, we are very proud of his career. Ben virtually changed from his uniform to street clothes, and works on the same defense program at Langley Air Base. With them in Williamsburg, we love to visit!

Our next to the youngest is Amy, her husband, Jeremy, and Lincoln, Emma, Jackson, Julia, Stuart, and Lee being held by mom. Amy is also a stay-at-home mom who homeschools this group! In addition, she runs them to cello, violin, and viola lessons since 3 play with a junior symphony in Philadelpha. This is a photo after a concert we attended. Even the next to youngest has a minature vioin and plays "Miss-i-ssip-pi Hot-dog"....ha! Jeremy will finish seminary in May, and owns a small graphic design company.
