Kev, If I demo the small bathroom in the house, do you think I can redo the tiling myself???

08/15/08 08:12 AM #385

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

Kevin-

You can do it- its as simple as point and click! :} No, seriously, its a simple install. If I didn't live 10 hours away, I'd come do it for you, but then I might as well just come for the party! (Which nun used to say to Jimmy Rampone "Don't make me come down there"?)

Carol-

Tiling- go for it! Its not hard. You just need a wet saw and lots of patience. I did my sunroom (took me a month) but it came out great.

Lisa-

Did you see the women's gymnastics last night? It was unbelieveable! I stayed up until 1pm (will pay today) and it was the greatest finish ever with USA taking Gold and Silver!

Debbie.... How did you know how to use the wet saw though??? :o) What size tile did you go with????

08/15/08 08:36 AM #387

Deborah Kozak (Martin)

Carol-

My neighbor helped me get started and recommended using the wet saw. I used a 6" tile in my sunroom. Is your bathroom very large? The style today seems to be 12"-18" inch tiles which I think would make any room look larger. With the large tiles you'd have alot less grout to clean later down the road! :}

Carol Vallone

Margaret.... so I can PRACTICE on your bathroom??? :o)

It's actually a small bathroom off a bedroom.... Just a shower stall, toilet & sink. Literally!! If it comes out pretty good, then maybe I would even attempt the main bathroom, but if it doesn't then i can just lock the door and never go back in there!!! Hmmmm.. then again that's 1 less bathroom I'd have to clean?!? Could end up being a win-win situation!!!

Thanks for the advice Debbie!! Not only would it be less grout, but probably less cutting and less room for err?!?!

Ladies, just so you are aware my husband is very talented at tiling. Carol, when you were at my house in July, my husband tiled the bathroom floor off of my kitchen and he also re-tiled my entire bathroom (floor and shower). We can talk later.

And yes, I too stayed up to watch the ladies gymnastics, which was very exciting. GO USA!!!! I am paying for it now because I am having a very difficult time motivating myself to get ready to leave for vacation tomorrow.

Talk later.

Carol-

You go girl and if all else fails, call Maureen's husband (after they get back from the beach - have fun)!

I missed the men's gymnastics the other night too. Didn't hear much on the news about it so I am guessing they didn't fare too well.

Mary Grace-

Couldn't agree with you more on the women's volleyball, they really rock! Last night we tuned in right around when they were down to the Bulgarians but then made a comeback and beat them. It was truly awesome!

Kevin-

How's the webcam hookup coming? Maybe Elmer can offer some insight on how to tune us all in to your party! :}

Debbie,

I can offer Kevin some quick advice regarding the handling of technical difficulties--call somebody under the age of 22 for assistance. I had my 9-year old grand nephew program numbers into my cell phone. And I recently learned how to use my digital camera (putting an end to a long tradition of using disposable cameras)after a 25-year old colleague showed me how.

Kevin,

When I was in Tampa last week, my brother told me that a friend of his is dating David...(can't remember his full name) who is a decorator who won a contest on HGTV. Since I have to see a name in writing to be able to remember it, I can't even remember the name of my brother's friend although I remember meeting him once at one of Damon's (my brother's) parties.

Damon and, his partner Joel, know a lot of people in the gay community because Joel is captain of a gay softball team in Orlando. They mentioned that Joel's team won a championship against a straight team and that a photo of his team now hangs prominantly in Hooters in Orlando.

Best regards,

Elmer

and here we go...... BACK to Hooters again!!! What's the chance? :o)

Elmer.... His name is David Bromstad. He has his own show on HGTV now, "Color Splash" Can you see if your brother's friend has an in with Vern Yip... please??

Here's some info I found for you:
... known for his endless energy and out-of-the-box thinking. Bromstad began his career as a design student at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. Earnest, passionate, talented and innovative, Bromstad creates awe-inspiring works on many platforms, including custom art, furniture building and interior design. Bromstad says he "blends styles that incorporate realism and fantasy." He combines this approach with a love of color and practical advice that shows how to transform tired rooms into unique, vibrant spaces.
He currently resides in Miami, Fla.

Kevin.... oh ye of little faith!!!! Now i HAVE to do it just to show you I can!!! Can you come up with an idea or color scheme for me.... PLEASE?!

Carol,

Damon did mention to me that he wants David to paint a mural. At any rate, David's partner (whose name escapes me because I met him some years ago) is a physical therapist who once bought a house from my brother. Well, the real reason that I remember the whole thing is because David's partner is a former Mormon (kicked out because he is gay) and I had an interesting conversation with him on the inner-workings of Mormonism.

Damon and Joel went to Utah to attend their friend's (now David B's partner) brother's wedding (Damon and Joel and the friend couldn't actually enter the Morman temple, but went to the reception).

My brother drove their friend's grandmother (who is not a Morman)(keep in mind that my brother and Joel drive everywhere because their two Jack Russel Terriers go everywhere) and stopped with her at a few bars along the way so that they could brace themselves for what she termed "Mormon overload." (Mormons don't take alcohol or stimulants--no liquor and no coffe or tea).

I thought I'd share this story.

My best,

Elmer

Carol,
just so you know...if you pull the tile out of the shower...the wall comes with it so be prepared to hang concrete board and redo the walls ( My friend...why you did not ask me??? I am the queen of remodelling)And if you do the floor you have to deal with the throne...pretty easy! If I was there we would do it together. How hysterical would that be!!!!
I feel asleep before the gymanstics individual titles were over. The little bit I saw looked great...seems to me the best girl took the gold!
xoxo Lisa

I was just wondering if any of you miss the old swim suits of the 80's Were you could tell how cold the water was without even being there.I think these new suits push everything to the back so that the women have a dorsal fin. Anyway just trying to change the subject. Ladies let me know if you need any remodeling tips.
Just wondering

Kev - I have posted a picture for you, under my profile. I made it the first photo so everyone doesn't have to go through all mine again!! Very handsome, I must say!! And you dimples are SCREAMING!!!!

Elmer - Those Mormons can say anything they want, but I'm certain at least one of those Osmonds are gay!! And as for the alcohol, medications, etc., what about Marie? Tithing speaks!!!

Lisa - I didn't know!!! You did say you were in NJ through the 8th, right? Did you get my email?

Buck - Since you're all for changing the subject, check out this little news quip I found yesterday... do you think the guy is embarrassed or is he now a local hero?? http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,24184797-5013110,00.html

I Miss The 80's Swim Suits!!!
When I trained for 3 years with a coach ( for weight lifting,etc)...I was huge and wanted to flaunt it all.

Carol,
Remember the "love Boat' Cruise when I was in my prime And how big & Delicious I was? Heads would spin, right???
The smaller & tighter the swim suit, the better!

Now I'll have to commit to looking like that by 50 or I'll hate myself! It's very do-able since I still have form & haven't gained much weight. If only John Wilkins was here in Florida-He was ausome!!! Peace/KGB

You must mean the $400 dolce gabbana meathanger you were sporting!!!! I must admit, and it is nothing personal, I'm not really fond of that look!! Agreed, you definitely had the body for it, but usually it's someone who has no business wearing one that you see around the beaches in NJ!!!

Buck,
For the first Olympic day or two, I couldn't tell the male swimmers from the female swimmers! Now that's sad....and by the way, has anyone read anything about why Mark Spitz has barely been mentioned? It's strange.
