She has got to be strong to be with you (lol) so that is a good thing when fightening an illness. We are thinking about her and your family in F'Burg. Take care.

Mark - I've got to ask....if the republicans bailed out AIG and the republicans were not responsible enough to put restrictions on how the money could be used, then how is it the dems fault what AIG is doing? Not looking for a huge debate - just an answer. :)

Frankly, more criticism should be levied at the greedy SOB's taking the money. You know - some of them don't even work there anymore. It is absolutely pathetic that these guys with millions in the bank are "worried" about the economy - maybe they can't get a brand new car and take a tropical vacation each year - while others who are truly worried about the economy cannot send their kids to college and may be wondering where the next meal comes from.

As someone pointed out to me, when you sign for a student loan, you are stating that the money will be used for tuition, books or living expenses related to being a student without a substantial income. If you use it otherwise you can be in default and your loan can be called. So, why not similar constraints on these bailouts?

Dear(my buddy old pal)elisa,
The geat paper the new york times reported that tim gietner was overseeing the deal with AIG in november!

I will however add that before we gave AIG 30 bil not too long ago,it could have been stopped!

I would also like to ask you,did you know that AIG gave a certain someone alot of campaign donations(can you name this person?)

Well before i get out of control i'll stop!

Please respond and i will keep it clean i swear!!!!

I was up late soz im still alittle fuzzy today(i'll get rollin soon!)

FYI, chris dodd TOOK OUT the provision in the stim bill to NOT pay these bonuses!

Yet now they put on this big show to not pay and act like they dont know who is at fault(its a friggin joke!)

This is fact not my opinion!!!!!

They need to pay these people so they can fix the problem!!!

They signed a contract period!!!(pay them and stop the show!)
165m to fix 1.7 bil is a fine payoff to me!!!!

Look it up,about a month ago congress ie chris dodd(in a late night close door meeting stripped out no bonuses!)

I can completely edjamacate you and others on the facts!!!!
Just because i don't speak with a vernaclar that SEEMS sagacious, doesn't mean that i don't know wth im talkin about!!!

Mark (my dear new friend), :)

Thank you for shedding light on this...seriously...I did not know the things you mentioned. Honestly, I do not dig too deeply into this stuff....I know it affects me. But I know what affects me and my kids more, is the time I spend with them and volunteering for their various activities...so that is where I spend the bulk of my time. Not criticizing anyone for the time they spend doing whatever they do - good thing we all do different things...keeps this message forum lively for one thing!

Anyway - I appreciate the info. interesting stuff. Makes me shake my head.

On a lighter note - I spent my weekend with a group of 96 teenaged choir kids at a show choir competition....roughly 18 ours of the day. And the mixed show choir that my daughter is in and that my son plays trombone for is ranked NUMBER 2 in the NATION. Pretty sweet - eh? There is a youtube video but the first one was not such great quality...waiting for another one to be uploaded so I can share the link for anyone interested.

Have a good night Mark - go to bed earlier - I saw you posted at some horribly late (or was it early) hour.

Signing off,
Elisa (you dear ol' buddy or pal or whatver you called me.) Have a good one.

Rich - Oh the irony of the cigarette tax...it it the ultimate example of a user tax. Don't use 'em, don't pay the tax.

I see that one as a win/win situation....people stop smoking (hopefully) because the price is too high and the country saves a small fortune on health care! Or we make the money on the tax.

And if you smoke - QUIT. I know everyone says that and I am sure it is easier said than done. But I'll bet it is easier than dying of lung cancer or heart disease due to smoking. And I'll bet it will be easier on your family to have you be grumpy for awhile than it will be to watch the painful death that lung cancer causes.

My dad died of lung cancer and it is not pretty.

elisa:
sounds like you have to much time on your hands..lol
see this is the problem if we dont pay attention to these things or care enough about them then they (people yall put in office) get away with it....
and for the tax on smokes..yea tax it because its not good for you? or you dont like it? WTF is that? see its always ok to tax things that dont effect you but when it dose then your like hey no way that sucks.......
i go back to my original thought....we already give the gov way to much of our money and as long as we keep giving it they will spend it ...and its not that we really give it , they pass a law and take it!!!when are we going to stand up and say NO MORE....... let the people keep more of there money and if they spend it unwisely and fall on there ass then so be it..learn from it and move on, the only thing the gov has learned is keep taking it .......

Rich--just because someone spends his/her time volunteering doesn't mean that he/she has too much time on his/her hands. Some people do not volunteer just because they have nothing else to do. Some people do it because that is what they want to do. Most people I know who volunteer are the people who definitely do not have too much time on their hands.

Dear elisa,

I have moved you to the top of my respect chart(if more people had an open mind like you we could make some progress in this country!)

Since you dont mind hearing the real deal,(let me know if it was just a phase lol!)i will add daily if needed!

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is "un-American."

And i quote,
You are special people. You're here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country's future. That makes you very, very patriotic."

She's what,3rd in the chain to take the president's spot?
How in the hell is it patriotic to break the law?

Soup(full of joy with elisa)out!

In a dramatic reversal Wednesday, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., confessed to adding language to a spending cap in the stimulus bill last month that specifically excluded executive bonuses included in contracts signed before the bill's passage.(i hope i dont regret this but he deserves a pat on the back!!!)

As many know, the administration was, among others, not happy with the language. They wanted some modifications to it," he said. "They came to us, our staff, and asked for changes, and the changes at the time did not seem that obnoxious or onerous."

Senator Dodd's reversal on this issue is both astonishing and alarming,(but i'll take it lol!)

"Contrary to his statements and denials over the last 24 hours, Senator Dodd has now admitted that he and his staff did in fact change the language in the stimulus bill to include a loophole for AIG executive bonuses."

Soup(keepin it real,but done for today!)out!

03/19/09 03:52 PM #2082

Elisa Cullina (O'Neill)

How frightening it was to listen to the news today and think of you, Mark! lol :)

I heard Chris Dodd's admission and the reason being they did not want a lawsuit if the contracts that AIG signed were in place. I have to say that I am disappointed they didn't feel there was a way around that issue....I dunno - maybe make them sign something stating they won't take bonuses or they don't get the money. Our top lawyers must be craftier than that - too just take it out over fear of a lawsuit?

yes - give him credit for his admission. And maybe (Mark - you're gonna love this) he just thought that the AIG people wouldn't beso greedy and he never even considered that a company dare use the money that way. Yeah - that would be naive......

Then the next news story was how Freddie Mac paid out 1 million dollars in bonuses to 4 - count 'em - 4 individuals!

The best part (and I don't really mean best) is that the company's have said, "We have to honor those contract so we can keep our great employees." REALLY? Aren't they the flubs that got you into this mess?

03/19/09 04:02 PM #2083

Elisa Cullina (O'Neill)

Cherie -

THANKS for the assist on defense there with our resident cynic - Rich.

Rich - my time is extremely valuable - and I spend it wisely. And I can think of no better place to spend it than with young people who will be future leaders. Letting them know they matter and are worth my time is pretty darn important. There also is, then, the opportunity to influence the moral and ethical development of these young people. Time well spent as far as I am concerned. You might think the time or the event was frivolous - but I disagree there, too. If you are at all a fan of the arts (and I suspect you are not) then you would see the value and benefit of these talented students. There are lots of great stories of how these kids learn good sportsmanship, friendship, compassion, and on and on.

And if I didn't know you like to yank peoples' chains, I would have been quite insulted by your tone that I have too much time on my hands. It's people like me - and Cherie - who make the programs run at schools and clubs for everyone's kids (even if, like you, they think it is a waste of time.)

Rich - as for the cigarette tax - I support it because it is not a mandatory tax like income tax. The only way to avoid income tax (legally) is to have no income....not a viable option. These user taxes are avoidable.

I suppose you aren't a fan of the toll system either - another great example of a user tax. And before you launch off on some tangent, I'll point out that (in this area at least) the tollways are the BEST maintained roadways, without a doubt. Do they make a profit - YEP - and I am okay with thatas long as it is not at the expense of the quality of service provided - which up to now it doesn't seem to be.

Elisa Cullina (O'Neill)

Mark - what's the 9-12 thing you referred to? Please explain and I'll be sure to read it.

03/19/09 04:09 PM #2085

Elisa Cullina (O'Neill)

Rich - Just spent 5 hours doing EKG's on high school stduents in a free screening program to find students at risk for sudden cardiac death.

It was such a great experience I have volunteered to go back again tomorrow.

Is this too much time on my hands or a waste of time? 1,600 students will be screened and lives potentially saved by this. I don't think the other 200+ volunteers think they have too much time on their hands or that they are wasting their time either. And I'm sure the parents of any kids with abnormalities (if any are found) will certainly think this was a great use of time!

To Those of You Born
1930 - 1979

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please
read what he said.

Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE

1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

~

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

03/19/09 10:42 PM #2087

Mark Campbell

Dear elisa, just type in 9/12 project you cant miss it!!!

Also if congress would read what the bring into law it would help!!!
As for the AIG bonuses,(hold on tight here!)PAY THEM!!!!

There is billions on our dollars on the line here,to disrupt this company now just to cover thier ass is retarded!!!!

If they go though with this it will cost more than 165mil to get the money back and could completely screw us all!(they are makin progress at AIG atm,and not all of these employees are at fault here!)

Just today congress is trying to pass a 90% tax on bonuses!
It 100% goes against the constitution(you cannot single out people for taxing purposes, and you cannot bring into law anything that covers monies already paid!!!)

The whole thing is about popularity, NOT WHATS BEST FOR US!!!!!

Sounds alittle backasswards but trust me,IF THEY DON'T LEAVE AIG BONUSES ALONE,WE WILL BE RUINED!!!!

When you have billions riding on them turning this company around,YOU MUST STEPOFF!
