 Kampfe, Sissy, 38, of Radford, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 1999 after a courageous seven year battle with brain cancer. She died at home with her loving family at her side. She joins in heaven her parents, Walter G. Cox, Jr., and Sue L. Cox, as well as her grandfather Walter G. Cox, Sr. Sissy was born in Pulaski, Va on April 16, 1960. She graduated from Pulaski Co. High School in 1978 and attended New River Community College. Following this she was a medical service specialist in the United States Air Force from 1979 until 1988. While in Omaha, Nebraska she met her husband, Dr. Paul Kampfe. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children, Sarah Grace, 12, Nathan Paul, 9, and Laura Jeanette, 7. Soon after her cancer diagnosis the Kampfes moved to Radford to be closer to family and friends. Sissy was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and the Emmaus Community. She supported the PTA of Belle Heth and McHarg schools and was a Brownie Leader. Above all else, she was a loving, caring mother, wife, sister, and giving friend to many. Her sister Pam and brother-in-law Mike Langley of Blacksburg, and nephews John and Brian were special parts of her life. Pam lovingly nurtured her throughout her life, most especially during her last weeks of life on this earth. Her brother David and sister-in-law Cindy Cox of Molalla, Oregon and nieces Jessica and Amy will dearly miss her. Mrs. Walter Cox, Sr., "Granny Frances" of Pulaski played a special role in Sissy's life. Wonderful care was given to Sissy and her family throughout her illness by special friend Betty Crawford. Special faith friends are Curt and Donna McKee, Steve and Joyce Black, Charles and Donna Judy, and Tony and Nancy Nix. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins loved and nurtured her throughout her life. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday evening, Feb. 4, 1999 at 8pm at the Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Curt McKee and Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will be Friday 11am at the West View Cemetery in Radford where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military honors. Sissy wished that in lieu of flowers, donations are considered to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, The Sanctuary Renovation Fund of Central United Methodist Church, or the American Cancer Society. Carolyn I have called someone who is going to look up what year Sissy passed away. They should be calling me back tomorrow. Sissy was a sweet girl and a good friend. Sissy was also a talented flute player!Larry Bralley
I wanted to ask Sissy to "go with me" like in the 9th or 10th but I was "chicken". I always liked her though. She was a really good person. Sweet girl. I wish she could have gotten to see everyone as was her wish. Hopefully,in Spirit, Sissy can be at the 30th.Phyllis Draper (Dalton)
Sissy, such a quiet and meek spirit. It is so easy, when a young person passes, to wonder what they could have done or could have been had they had more time, yet as I read your obituary there is no question that you lived and accomplished more than many will accomplish in a lifetime. Your story is an inspiration to me because you were able to find the important things in life, Your Lord, your family and your friends. You loved and was loved back even to the end. I wonder if any of the flights you took on earth compared to the day you soared on angels wings to your heavenly home. You are not forgotten.Mike Hall
I remember talking on the phone with Sissy for hours, and sometimes even while "The Midnight Special" was on. I remember her & Becky Powers were inseparable. Sissy would seem to always lift your spirits.
