Marilyn Ehrlich (Borgerding)

This place doesn't seem to be very popular anymore.  Guess we are all visited out!  Where have all those years gone since 8th grade?  Seems each year, each month, each week, even each day goes whizing by faster and faster.

Winter has sure been good to us in the Dub area.  We had 6 inches of snow in H.C. earlier but just a few snow showers since.  I can handle this.  I think snow is pretty, but I sure don't like to travel in it.  Might not have been so bad but my car has rear wheel drive which isn't worth a darn on snow.  So I usually just stay put until the roads and streets are clear again.  Guess that is why my last car lasted 17 years....didn't rust out from all the salt they put on the roads.

Not much new here.  Had a wonderful Christmas, a week early because of conflicts in schedules.  Want to get back at making quilt tops, but first I have to become a "CPA" and get our income tax report ready to go to the lawyer.  I hate getting "farmers" tax forms ready.  Especially when I didn't do anything on it yet for last year.

Looks like you are getting  to do the snow thing too...lol. Hey guys..my real email is grammymellon@aol.com. if you want to get a hold of me for anything, I'm not on here very often so i may not get some of the party  dates, ok. Hey, how about that cruise ship....ya know I hear they are really nice, but i do not want to be anywhere   where my two feet can not touch the ground under the water...that goes for the river too...not a big fan anymore. Hi Linda,

I loved your and Marylon's notes.  It was good to hear from you both.  I check in occasionally to see what everybody has been doing.

The holidays were great but they went by too quickly.  I was in DBQ for a few days and got to spend some time with Trish Coakley and her family at Trish's cocktail party.   It was wonderful!  She has such a beautiful place!!

Mary T, I'm really sorry to hear about your sister.  I know 1st hand how difficult losing a sibling is.  I'll keep you in prayers.

Can't tell you much about snow in Colorado.  It's 60 degrees today and we haven't seen more than a dusting of snow so far this season.  Even the golf courses are busysmiley

Hope everyone has a great winter and stays in touch!!

Linda --  I remember Patti Pink from Holy Trinity. In 5th grade when we had Mrs. Dempsey for a teacher, my parents took me out of Holy Ghost 2nd semester and sent me to Holy Trinity. It was hard for me becasue I missed all my HG friends. But I did meet some really nice kids at Trinity who were very kind to include a stranger in their midst. Patti was one of those nice people, and I think I was even at her house one time. I greatly appreciated all those kids who were so nice to me for a semester.

Thanks to Linda and Connie for the kind thoughts at the death of my sister, Bernadette. She was a huge part of my life, and it will be very different without her. With my other siblings living so far away, (Montana, California, Seattle) Bernadette and her family kind of adopted me, and included me in all their family fun. We emailed all during the week, and visited each other often. She let me know right before Thanksgiving that she was leaving work early, as she thought she was coming down with the flu. Gary and I were pretty much not 'doing' Christmas this year anyway, since the death of our grandson last January was too fresh for anyone to feel much like celebrating. So i spent quite a bit of time both before and after Christmas up in Appleton, WI with my sister and her family. She went downhill so fast it was just surreal. And time just sort of slowed down and speeded up at the same time. I did get to spend her last days with her at the hospital, and through a very good friend of her's who is also a hospice volunteer, learned how to connect with her in her final days. It seems that one day she was asking me to go with the family to cut down live Christmas trees -- as was the family tradition, and the next day, she was gone.

I really think Gary and I are going to have to come up with some new Christmas and holiday traditions for the coming years. As things in your life change, some of the old traditions just don't work anymore. That said, I was happy to read about all the holiday plans of all of you, and hope they all turned out as warm and wonderful as you hoped they would.

Later --

Mary T

Oh Mary, I am so very sorry to hear you lost your sister, I can't even imagine how painful that must be!  I will remember you in my prayers.  In addition, I didn't know you lost a grandson, I am so very sorry.  So it has to get better for you in 2012.  We switched up X-mas this year, stayed here by ourselves and it worked, may do it next year, try something new.  Connie...your picture is the cutest, I vote you the best looking!  Even tho they didn't give you a First Holy Communion Paryer Book, look how you turned out!  Linda, that Pink girl sounds familiar but can't quite picture her, I agree with you, grade school was the most boring thing I ever did in my life, high school, much better.  Heard from Rick Kutch, nothing new but I told him he needs to get on this message forum so if you are reading this Ricky Kutch, we are waiting to hear more from you.  Houston is the most beautiful time of year, have a week off, Dick is in Germany and I get to live like a slob.  Ends tomorrow, he's home!

Hello everyone!  I haven't been on the sight for some time now and I did not know of the death of your sister Mary T.  I am so sorry for your loss.  It sounds like you had a very special bond with her.  Cherish your many memories of her.  I'm sure it was very important to her that you were there with her in her final days.

We had to change our Christmas traditions this year as well since our son and his family relocated to Dallas, Tx and weren't able to come home.  It is difficult when you have families in different parts of the country especially when there are young grandchildren that still believe in Santa.  It just isn't the same when you aren't all together for those special days.

We have been back from Dallas for 3 weeks and we are looking forward to the next trip and nicer weather.  Our dog didn't travel well this time so I need to meet with the vet to figure out how to make it easier for him.

Trish, I was sorry to miss your party and I hope everyone had a good time.  We need to get together again soon.

I do love reading the Message Forum and wish that more of you would join in.  Let's keep it going!!!

Carol Fink (Hansen)

Hello, friends...I have not been on either, so I am so sorry to have missed hearing of your loss, Mary.  My sister Sharon spoke fondly of Bernadette.  I have not experienced the loss of a sibling, but as we age mortality can't help but cross our mind. I have thought how painful it would be to start losing them, as I know Trish has experienced.   Sharon and I are flying to Phoenix to hook up with Joanie over my spring break to take a sister's trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona Hummer riding.  I guess this is a good reminder to embrace "Carpe Diem"...for all of us!

Cheers to all you dear friends...until we meet again!

Carol

Linda, Your notes are always sooo much fun!

Looks like everyone is doing well!  I too wish more people would post on the site.  Being an out-of-towner, the site is my best way to keep in touch with what's going on.

For me...I'm still traveling regularly to St Paul and stopping for a few days in DBQ when I can.

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!    With such a mild winter, and the way time is flying by, daffodils will be blooming before we know it:smiley

It's me again!  I just reaad about your sister, Mary.  I am so sorry to hear that.  My Prayers are with you.  I lost a sister (she was 29) way back in 1970.  It seems like a life time ago.  God Bless!

I have been negligent in getting back on the site. It was nice to catch up on some of the news. Mary, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I empathize a great deal after losing 3 of my younger sisters in a 5 year span from cancer. Thinking of them in a better place provides some solace.

Marilyn Ehrlich (Borgerding)

Hi All,

Sorry for your lose Mary T.  I can certainly relate to that, having lost 2 sisters, 3 brothers, a sister-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and 5 members of my husbands family.  Some days it sucks to be one of the younger ones in the family.  My parents have been gone since 1986 & 1987.  Wow, that's 24 years already.  Where does the time go.

Sure am enjoying this winter.  Haven't been snowed in at all yet this year.  Guess, I probably just jinxed that by mentioning it.

Hey, did that First Communion picture of the boys ever get posted on here somewhere?  Mary T. did you ever get your pictures posted?  I would love to see them. Anyone else take pictures that didn't post them?  I love pictures. Guess that is why I am taking a digital software (Photoshop) class.  Amazing what can be done with digital photos. I need to get some of mine printed.  Think I am going to try making one of those digital scrapbooks...might be easier and faster than just scrapbooking.  Got all the neat tools to scrapbook with....all I need now is time (or less hobbies).  A cleaning lady would probably help...but I'm afraid I would have to do some cleaning before she got here. lol

Anyone been to the sight for Holy Ghost.  I find it to be very interesting.  A lot of new pictures have been added recently.  Check it out.

Linda, read your update and decided to add my own. In August Richard decided it was time to move to town and let our son take over the farm. Since there were no homes available in Holy Cross we are in the process of building a new one. The plan is to move in sometime in March. That is if the Geo thermal guy ever gets here to do his thing. I said we are moving to town...I did not say we are retiring. Two totally different things..right? I'm sure we will still be spending a lot of time at the farm. If youfind a lot of mistakes in the note it is because I have broken my finger in three places and will have it in a splint for 6 more weeks. Of course it's the finger I need most for quilting, so I won't be doing much of that anymore...if ever. Still plan on making more quilts though. Just have to find another way of quilting them. 2012 has been good to us, but I am almost afraid of all 2013 has in store. My son lost his father-in law last week to a massive heart attack. My sister-in-law has just been diagnosed with a stage 4 agressive cancer. So a few prayers would be appreciated for them.

smiley Hey Marilyn,, sounds like you have alot going on right now. To bad about the finger, all from the car door closing on it, uh. New house sounds like it is coming right along, weather has pretty much cooperated with you so far. It will probably seem quite different for you once you move off the farm after having been there for so long. You really do a great job with pics, they are really inciteful. see ya later, keep posting !!!heart Linda

Haven't been on in a while.  House is still progressing..but slowly now.  Still waiting for the Geo thermal guy to hook everything up.  They finally dug the lines into the ground last week.  Will probably be moving about the middle of April.

In case anyone is interested my email address is mborgerdin@aol.com  Hope that doesn't change when we move.

Winter in Holy Cross has sure been crappy so far this year.  Lots of days we were snowed in.  The snow is piled up twice as high as a car on the sides of the road right now.  Hope no more comes, or if it does, the wind doesn't blow it all in the road again.

Here is a site on facebook that might interest some of us former Dubuquers.

Hi people...long time since I posted on here..one of our classmates passed away this last week...Mary Elizabeth Conley.  She died of a heart attack. She was a cashier at the Diamond Joe Casino. Her mother was also my 2nd grade teacher. She was always cheerful and full of spitfire. She will be sadly missed by her grade school friends as well as her high school group and her work mates...Rest in Peace Mary
