Linda: I routinely log in to catch up. It is a great place to touch base with what is happening. Nothing to exciting happening in this neck of the wood, but I my niece provided the family with a child this weekend. That makes 14 great nieces and nephews from 11 nieces and nephews. This is the second niece that has been born since I was back in Dubuque which makes it even more special.

So next week I am off to Des Moines during the week for the next 4 months. It will certainly be nicer when we start going to all of the eastern cities, so the travel will be minimal. Yeah.

I gave my camera to Tom for pics, but it was really dark and mine did not turn out very good he said so i doubt any of them he will post. Any of the rest of you have pics ? Well, tonite is the night I get to win the lottery !!!!!!! I can dream can't I.......Too many leaves in the yard...hurry up and fall so i can be done with you !!! I gotta start looking for presents for xmas for the adults..any good suggestions out there? OH...I can give them money when i win this lottery..problem solved.                            Bye mates...sweet dreams :)

Marilyn Ehrlich (Borgerding)

Hey, if anyone has pictures that are toooooo dark, if you send them to me I can try to lighten them.  I've already done it with a lot of the ones that have been posted, so I could at least see who was on them.  I am learning a few things in my digital photography classes.  I better.....this is my third year of taking it.  Love moving heads around on photos.  The class is geared for 55 and older, so there are several people that are not too familiar with the workings of the computer, so teacher has to "hold their hand" through everything we do.  Photoshop Elements is a super program and I doubt we will ever get to all of the interesting things you can do in it.  Last week we learned how to reflect a mirror image in a photo, the week before it was make a slide show.  The teacher is actually learning as we go along since we are her first class (guinea pigs).  It's fun and gets me off the farm for a few hours every week, and I love the social aspect of it.  My email address is mborgerdin@aol.com if anyone is interested in having photos adjusted.

So Linda.... as far as the lottery, there is always next week... next month... So better luck next time! (But remember, you are competing with a lot of us who want to win too!)

I still can't figure out the 7th grade, because I distinctly remember having Sister Anthony Claret. And yes, it was in the front left room as you came in the front door of the old school. So was Mrs. Sisson only there for part of the year? I do agree with Linda that she was not too fond of the North. (She and I had a few 'discussions' about that!) As I recall, she had a Confederate flag on the wall of her living room, which I thought was possitively traiterous! She drove a very distinctive Dodge Dart, and in spite of some unusual attitudes, she was really quite nice.

Pat -- I feel what you are going through with the travel grind. I have had to be out of town for work quite a bit this year -- although not as much as you. It's good to get out of the office and see other people, but it can get a little tiresome after a while. I have to be in Peoria, IL for four days next week. Not a place I would intentionally choose to spend time! But I do enjoy the quiet evenings in the hotel room to catch up on my reading. I never seem to have enough time for that anymore.

Later y'all (as Mrs. Sisson would have said).

HAPPY HALLOWEEN ya all !!!! Just had the chicken and the egg here.....soooooo cute. (one of my sons friends, they always bring the kids by. she made the costumes !!!!!!  the dad made the feet..how funny.)  Thanks for the birthday wish Rick. Did not even come close on the lottery Mary,  maybe another time. I'm not greedy, I can share with others.  Took the day off tomorrow to get my yard stuff done b4 it rains and snows, hopefully the last of it, plants are all going too. Connie got any snow out there yet ? Let us know when you do, cause it will hit us next....not for a while i hope. Hey did anyone ever notice that the top floor of the school has round top windows ? I just noticed it in the reunion pics, and there are some old ones in the attic too.  uh, never really took notice b4 or i forgot it. .  Must have been the church first up there , the cornerstone says school and church...  I also noticed that the people that now own it have some equipment parked there, so they are probably going to start the renovation soon, or maybe have.....   Gone, but not forgotten...  tata linda          ps.  Oscar are you out there reading these ????

Sue Fessler (Deaver)

Hi everybody, yes I remember Mrs. Sisson, front room, right side of the building, first floor.   I think she was a good teacher, I just don't remember the teachers going from room to room.

Linda I am so glad you are feeling better.  I'm still trying to get the group together at my house in early December.  Connie and Mary, if you are reading this, please let us know when you will be back in December???  I saw Tom the other day at HyVee, he said he would put out a memo on the December cocktail party, once we find a date.  Looking forword to seeing everyone again.  Sue

Mary Buckley (Luedtke)

The gathering sounds like so much fun Sue but now I don't think we will be coming for X-mas.  Our son, who is in Dubuque with the 6 children, is now moving to Park City, Utah so they won't be in Dubuque.  That was the main purpose to go to Dubuque, to see the kids.  But then, you never know what could come up that I would land there.  If anything changes I will let you know, if the party takes place, take pictures!

Hi All....Happy THanksgiving !!!! I know it's early but I need a head start..lots to do.  Kids are coming home from Ka. and Wi. no big meals planned, they have to be at other places at specific times, so I give them free rein as long as I get my grand kids for awhile. There will be plenty to eat so they can munch when they want to. I am not nuts and do not go shopping in the middle of the night... not anymore anyway.. only did that once..the year Cabbage patch dolls were out..1st and last time. I think the boys and i will make some cookies sometime this weekend.  How did the wedding go, Diane and Dan? Great i bet.. congrats!!  Mary, we  will miss you not coming to Dub. now.. but you have to go where the kids are. If you do get to town, let us know, ok. Jo hope you are doing great now, and the eye is better. Carol, a few free days for you, i'm sure you are all for that. Everyone have a great holiday and don't eat too, too much !!     love me.

Colleen Hearity (Jaeger)

Hey Linda.  Happy Thanksgiving to you too!  I'm sure you will enjoy having your kids and grandkids home for a long weekend.  There is nothing more fun than making cookies with the little ones.  We do it at Christmas time as they love to decorate the cutout cookies.

We are going to Timmerman's for Thanksgiving this year with my daughter and her family.  This is the first time in a long time that I haven't cooked.  I'll miss the leftovers though.

We are headed to Dallas for Christmas sometime the week of December 19th depending on the weather.  We will stay for at least several weeks as long as the weather is warmer than it is here.  We need to be back by February 12th as Allison and Mike are going to Hawaii and I will be taking care of the kids.  It is always a fun time for me.

Stay in touch and enjoy the holiday!

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on for awhile.  Since the reunion I have been subbing in preschool.  They keep you quite busy and I was out of energy by evening.  I finished the long term sub job last Wednesday, now I can get back to my normal retirement routine.  Sue, that get together sounds great.  Let me know the date.

Ya know we could do one of those exchange vacations that are so "in" now.. you come here for a month and we go there for a month...keep dreaming Linda ..Who in their right mind is going to come here for the cold. Merry Christmas  everyone!

I have the shopping done, the wrapping done, the cookies made and suitcases packed!  Ken and I are having an early Christmas with our daughter and her family on Saturday and we will leave for Dallas on Sunday, if the weather permits.  As many of you know, it is very difficult to have kids and grandkids spread out over the country, especially during the holidays.  Next year we plan on staying in Dubuque for the holidays.

This past Saturday, my grandaughter Ella (age 7 ) and I went to Stonehill to decorate great grandma's room and then we came home and made cutout Christmas cookies.  She did a great job of cutting them out and we had so much fun decorating them.  Hopefully, we can continue this tradition for many years to come!  I made an extra batch to take with me to Dallas so I can decorate them with my other grandchildren.  I feek so fortunate to be able to carry the traditions from my childhood forward with my children and grandchildren.

May you all have a great holiday with your families and friends!

Marilyn Ehrlich (Borgerding)

MERRY CHRISTMAS one and all and a Happy & Healthy New Year.

I agree with Linda,  drop a note here once in a while.  I guess I am guilty of  that myself.  Gets rather boring to come here and not find anything new.

Certainly glad I don't have to travel for the Holiday.  I feel very fortunate that with 5 children the farthest away they live is Cedar Rapids.  We will be celebrating Christmas on Sunday, because they have too many other places to go on Christmas.  We are ordering pizza in this year to make life easier on all of us.  Who knows, it might even be the start of a new family tradition.

Candy (turtles, peanut clusters, fudge) is made...if the sun would shine I might even try a batch of divinity.  Haven't had that in years.  Cookies (date pinwheels, oatmeal raisin, choc. chip, Peanut blossoms and ginger) are baked...and if we don't stop eating them, there won't be any left for Christmas.

Wishing the fog would go away today. Can't believe the weatherman is calling for near 50 degree weather.  I was just complaining "what ever happened to the years when we didn't get ANY snow before Christmas".  Someone musta heard me.  I am loving every minute we have without snow and the other elements of winter.

Better not get too long winded here.  I'm off to create my Christmas card using a lot of the things I learned in my digital photography class this year.

Lois Weber (Jungers)

Hello,

This is the first time I have been on this site.  I am really glad to find it and will visit it more often.  Had to play around with the different choices to find the Message Forum.  I think sometimes I am to impatient to wait for things to come up.

Just wanted to share with you all who are in the Dubuque area that on Dec. 17th there will be a live Navitity Scene at the Lutheran Church on Asbury road not far from JFK Rd going East.  Our female llama with her cria will be there representing one of the camels.  I always loved the live Navitity Scene they once had when we were kids out at the Point area near Dubuque Lumber.  Feel it is a good place to visit for the little ones.  Not for sure what other animals they will have there but I know there will be some.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Lois

Joanne Campbell (Endorf)

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas:

I am really enjoying reading the posts of everyone's Christmas plans.

I will travel only 30 miles north to be with my 2 daughters, their husbands, my 10 grandchildren, and more. I'm almost finished with my shopping. Today I was out to buy 2 gift cards and the traffic was unbelievable.... doesn't anyone work on Friday anymore????? Also my sister, Teresa is coming from Denver to stay with me for a week, so I'm very excited about that. We need to pray for good weather as she is driving.  Love snow but hate driving in it.

I didn't get back very good vision in my right eye but am thankful that I am not totally blind from that detached retina that prevented me from coming to the reunion. Am working with new contacs in addition to reading glasses. Doc says when he removes cataracts at some point, I should be able to see much better. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. I just want to be able to read and drive, dear Lord.

Here's hoping everyone has a safe and joyful Christmas and New year

Cheers, Joanne

Hi Everyone!!

I haven't been on the site in a while so I had a great time catching up on all the posts.

I'm working in St Paul this week and will be traveling to Dubuque on Wednesday to meet my daughter and grandaughter.

My son-in-law can't make it home from Iraq this year so we'll be spending Christmas in Dubuque for the first time in years.  I'm sooo excited!

My Mom turns 90 this year so who knows how many more Christmases we'll have with her.  This one will certainly be special.

Wishing you all a wonderful blessed Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!  Things are good at the Deaver's.  Sam is doing very well with his new knee.

We will have my kids and grandkids, and my brother and his family for Christmas dinner.  Everything is ready, candy, gifts, decorating, etc.  Marilyn, I even made divinity this year (my grandmas recipe).  It was great.  Brought back lots of memories from when my mom made it.  Again, Merry Christmas and God Bless.  Sue
