Mary Trieweiler (Germain)
I never looked in the message forum before tonight. It looks like I have been missing out!
Carol -- I remember going to your Dad's store quite often. In our family we used to have to take turns taking my Dad lunch at his business. And many times I would stop at your Dad's place to get bread, 3 slices of lunchmeat, some fruit and a treat. My favorite thing was the wieners with the skin on that he had. They were really smokey, and I use to get one and eat it 'raw'. Only it wasn't really raw; they came fully cooked.
Much to my chagrin I was did not make the volleyball team. I couldn't believe it when the players were announced and I wasn't one of the team! I, like Bette Buerskins, was crushed! One thing I do remember about volleyball is when I had the cast on my broken arm (after the arm was almost healed), I use to wack the volleyball with it at recess. Boy, could I hit a power shot with that cast! But then they took it off and I guess I just wasn't as good without the cast.
If you have not toured the school yet, I would LOVE to go along to see it. My younger sister and I were talking about it recently. We both took music lessons up on the 3rd floor, and I remember some kind of funky practice rooms up there. I wonder if they are still there. She loved them, but I wasn't too crazy about that old creaky building. Does anyone remember the sinks in the hallway on the first floor? I'm not sure why they were there, but I have a distinct memory of them. I guess it was a better place to wash one's hands than the old subterranean bathrooms on the side of the old school. I used them as infrequently as possible!
I do seem to remember there being a drawing to pick the girl who got to crown Mary in May. I have always wondered if all of our names were put in the hat for that drawing. Somehow I suspect they were not!
Well, it's been fun reading all of the posts. Some of you have unbelievable memories!
