Hi Linda,

I think it was Karen Kalloway who crowned Mary, although I'm not positive. I think a name was drawn out of a hat.

You can eliminate me from communion picture. I made my communion in Hobbs, New Mexico. Came to Holy Ghost either 3rd or 4th grade.

Hi Diane, I don't have you on the pic I am bringing to the reunion..blown up..big time... so you need not worry.I'm pretty sure that is Karen Weber? But I can't find mine here so I am only going by  the one on line. Good to hear from you and Congrats on your engagement. I remember Dan, he  was a real nice guy then and I'm sure he still is. Can't  wait for the reunion and all the good times we can hash over.  Hey, any of you boys have a pic??? We need one. Susie it will be good to see you also. It's amazing that so many of us still live here and that we hardly ever see one another. We will have to do coffees or something after the reunion to stay in touch more. MAYBE A ONE NIGHT EVERY FEW MONTHS SOMEWHERE FOR A SOCIAL TIME. Think about it  and reply...ok? maybe some of the ones that can't make it to this will be in town at a later date and can get together then.??? Thrown out there for thoughts.... May crowner still up for grabs..we can't find Karen Kallaway (Johnson) yet, so we don't know Lois. Anyone know her whereabouts?? Any more thoughts out there on any subjects ???? No idea why more people are not signing in...called some and they told me they were going to.. but not yet..if they don't I'm going to start posting some of my memories of them !!! Maybe that will move them.....or not. If any of you see one..tell them to sign IN !! Have to thank Donna Fleege Pfeiler for some of the illusive people , she came up with some.. When you see her ask her about the Ron Droessler  chase down... it's a riot. Love ya Donna!!!  I'm still chuckling !!!

Linda, I always forget to go to the message forum.  I've been checking the profiles.  Would like to hear Donna's story.  Is she coming to any night of the reunion?  I'll be waiting to see your pictures.  Let me know about the school tour.  Socials after this reunion also sound good.

Elizabeth Beurskens (Oeth)

Hi everyone,
I just sent Colleen my check so I guess I'm in. I can't believe how much you all remember. It's kind of all a blur to me. I do remember 8 th grade volleyball and how I didn't make the starting team. I was so mad at Sue Giellis- it traumatized me for life. But I did move on and both my boys went on to play high school and college volleyball.

Looking forward to seeing you in Sept. Bette

Alice, Donna is coming. I'm not sure but I think both nites last time I spoke with her. Will let you in on tour of school. It's really fun to post on here. I get many personal posts and tell them to post on  forum that way we can all converse. Lots of  yeses, but not alot of money accompaning them. Time is getting short for our committment to the Julian.  Hey, anyone find a boys communion pic yet ?? I've got a couple looking but have not heard back from them yet....Next meeting is Wed. gang and Tom will get some "OLD" pics then to post...olo lol!  Should be funny. Any topics to discuss out there ???  HEY GIRLS, here's one for us...WHO were the girls on the volleyball team ??? I know for sure I was not one of them.....my thoughts..Colleen, Marilyn, LoAnn, Grace Hefel, Sandy Metcalf, Betty Kluesner, Mary Buckley, Connie, and MY guess is Betty B.. but she says she wasn;t and my last pick is Mary Kay Basten. But there were alot of heavy hitters at school...like Rhonda, Joanne, Donna Fleege,Betty Turnmeyer, Lois Hilken and Lois Weber. Janann Koenig, Betty Jo Schumacher, and Pat Coakley  also comes to mind, plus afew more.  I know there was only 9, but I could put on at least 20.Now don't get those 7th grade girls in here either. I could cheat..I have a few pics of a game against St. Anthonys we played at holy Ghost, but I am not looking...yet. Will look at it or get it posted later. Darn that Janie Giellis Betty. Any of you who remember please defuse the issue.

Mary Buckley (Luedtke)

Linda, how do you remember all of this, you amaze me.  I played on the volleyball team but don't remember who else was on it except Colleen.  Is there going to be a tour of the school, I would love to get in on that if possible.  Can't imagine the memories associated with a tour of the school.  Did I hear they were going to or did sell the convent for apartments?

07/26/11 04:29 PM #37

Linda Healy (Mellon)

Hi Mary B., they did sell the school and convent to a  group. I think they are going to make it into condos, and some studio apts. Will know 4 sure when we get to get in and take pics. Would love to have you for the tour, only I don't  know when it is yet. When are you getting in town ? Well, at least we have 2 players on the team id. Any more players out there....Marilyn how about you?

Hi Linda,

I'm getting in on the 23 of August.  I tried to call Mary Conley, left a message about 3 or 4 days ago but she hasn't responded.  I'll try again soon.  And no Carol, I didn't ever get to taste those delicious donuts at your Dad's grocery store....DAMN!

Carol Fink (Hansen)

Duh...sorry, Mary. I should have read the forum before I messaged you!  Thanks for trying to get hold of M. Conley.  Talked to Denny Meehan today and he's not attending the reunion, but was tickled to hear from me; he was amazed at how many of us are in the Quad Cities.  He is both happily married and retired!!! Denny will be sending me some infor for Tom to post on the website.  The more the merrier! :-)

That is good news...more the merrier.  Kris Johanningmeier Latham will be talking to Merrill Loewen and is going to try to encourage her to come also.

Marilyn Ehrlich (Borgerding)

Sorry Linda, I was not one of the volleyball team.  I never got involved in any extracurricular activies at school.  After reading everyone's comments and memories I didn't realize all the things I missed out on by having to be home right after school.  I that took place once I left the building and walked the mile home.  Didn't even know there was a volleyball team.  I don't remember half the stuff you been talking about Linda, probably cause I wasn't involved.  Just went to school, did what was required and went home.

Never guess who I ran into yesterday!  I rarely, if ever see any of the old classmates.  Jim Lewis.  And where do you think I ran into him at?  The Ehrlich family reunion.  Not sure if anyone remembers, but Jim and I are second cousins/first cousins once removed to be more accurate.  I didn't find that out until we were in 8th grade together.  Asked if he was coming to the reunion.  His comment was that he has the info at home!  I may email him and bug him about it!!!

Count me in on the tour of the school. Hopefully we can drag these old bodies up three flights of stairs. I used to be able to run down them pretty fast and would take them two at a time going up. lol

Carol, our family musta kept the North End Grocey Store open with all the food my parents bought there.  I don't remember my mother shopping anywhere else until the store closed.

Linda Healy (Mellon)

Hi Marilyn..I'll let you know when we can get into the school. Get Jim to post on the profile page if he doesn't come, but yea, bug him. I know he will enjoy the reunion if he comes.  Colleen Woller are you out there ? Oh, doorbell will come back later......

Mary Trieweiler (Germain)

I never looked in the message forum before tonight. It looks like I have been missing out!

Carol -- I remember going to your Dad's store quite often. In our family we used to have to take turns taking my Dad lunch at his business. And many times I would stop at your Dad's place to get bread, 3 slices of lunchmeat, some fruit and a treat. My favorite thing was the wieners with the skin on that he had. They were really smokey, and I use to get one and eat it 'raw'. Only it wasn't really raw; they came fully cooked.

Much to my chagrin I was did not make the volleyball team. I couldn't believe it when the players were announced and I wasn't one of the team! I, like Bette Buerskins, was crushed! One thing I do remember about volleyball is when I had the cast on my broken arm (after the arm was almost healed), I use to wack the volleyball with it at recess. Boy, could I hit a power shot with that cast! But then they took it off and I guess I just wasn't as good without the cast.

If you have not toured the school yet, I would LOVE to go along to see it. My younger sister and I were talking about it recently. We both took music lessons up on the 3rd floor, and I remember some kind of funky practice rooms up there. I wonder if they are still there. She loved them, but I wasn't too crazy about that old creaky building. Does anyone remember the sinks in the hallway on the first floor? I'm not sure why they were there, but I have a distinct memory of them. I guess it was a better place to wash one's hands than the old subterranean bathrooms on the side of the old school. I used them as infrequently as possible!

I do seem to remember there being a drawing to pick the girl who got to crown Mary in May. I have always wondered if all of our names were put in the hat for that drawing. Somehow I suspect they were not!

Well, it's been fun reading all of the posts. Some of you have unbelievable memories!

Linda Healy (Mellon)

Hi All ! Mary I will let you know when for school as soon as he calls me. See how much fun this is and all that some are missing out on, oh well.  I do remember the sinks..I used them several times after art class. Anyone remember the nun doll Sr. Carmalita used to make every year and raffle off ? How about the game of Concentration we used to play in the classroom at noon in the winter..it was with #'s and clapping your hands.. Hey, volleyball team is still being looked for......

08/04/11 04:30 PM #48

Mary Trieweiler (Germain)

Thanks Linda. I really look forward to a trip through the old school. It will be interesting to see how accurate my memories of it are -- and if the floors are still as creeeeeky and the stairs as hollow sounding as I remember.

One thing I remember using the sink in the hallway for (other than washing out paint brushes and art supplies) was for washing my hands and arms first thing one morning when.....

I was walking to school on Central Ave. and came upon a baby bird that couldn't fly. So naturally I picked it up and carried it to school thinking the teacher would like to have it in class, and we could save its life and 'raise' it. (I probably got that notion from being in Sister Robert'a class where we did have tons of catepillers and other fauna in class to see it hatch and grow.) But this nun was not happy when she saw it and made me take it back outside (where it was probably eaten by a cat or something). When I came back in after 'dropping it off' outside, I noticed my hands and arms were crawling with tiny red bugs -- mites I imagine. I couldn't get them off me fast enough, and went directly to the sink to wash them off. I didn't have the nerve to tell the teacher, because she was not happy about me picking it up in the first place! Boy, I think I felt phantom bugs crawling up my arms for the rest of the day! So that day, I was very happy for those sinks! If I had to go to those old restrooms under the old school, I probably wouldn't have been able to see to get them off, because I remember it being very dark in there.

Anxiously awaiting the tour --

Mary T
