Alyce Jacalyn "Jackie" Cate (Ferrell)

Ferrell, Alyce Jacalyn Cate MENANDS The family of Alyce Jacalyn "Jackie" Cate (Ferrell), age 71 of Albany, sadly announces her death on January 4, 2022, of cancer.

She was born September 29, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, and received a business degree from the University of Texas. Jackie enjoyed a 30-year career at International SEMATECH as Standards program manager. She served in numerous volunteer positions in the industry standards development organization, SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), including Chair of SEMI North America, South Korea, Taiwan, and China. She was awarded the Japan International Friendship Award and the Karl Urbanek Award, the highest honor bestowed on SEMI volunteers. Her best reward was the lifelong friendships she shared with her international extended family. She led an active life and enjoyed traveling, water skiing, landscaping, bicycling, home remodeling, and reading.

Her greatest joy and love of her life were her sons, Thomas and Tim. Jackie will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her husband, Gregory Ferrell; her sons, Thomas Marsh (Laura Andrea Leguia), and Timothy Marsh; granddaughter Laura Elena Marsh-Leguia; siblings, Charles Cate (Rebecca), Cheryl Bettels (Jurgen), James Cate (Connie), Mona Hesseling (Edward), Kim Cate (Gary); her aunt Grace Schnorenberg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her death is preceded by her parents, Edward Cate and Alice Cate; and siblings, Judith Cate (Eichhorn) and Thomas Cate. Services were held privately. The family suggests donations to a local animal shelter or the World Wildlife Fund in remembrance. "Words cannot ease your pain and sense of loss but know that I lived a life full of joy, love and laughter, and having you in my life made it that way. Don't be sad. Remember a life well lived and loved. Be kind." Online condolences at Konicekandcollettfuneralhome.com.

Message I received from her son:

January 5, 2022

"Hi Wes, this is Thomas Marsh, Jackie Ferrell's son. Sadly, I'm writing to inform you that she has passed away. I'm including our email announcement here:

"Dear friends and family, As most of you know, Jackie has been battling lung cancer for nearly a year and a half. Although she put up a courageous fight, she passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon, January 4th, 2022. She was surrounded by her husband Greg Ferrell, and her sons Thomas and Tim Marsh. Her final years were filled with much joy and adventure. Christmas was a happy occasion, and, according to her, the “best Christmas ever”. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal funeral or ceremony. Her ashes will be interred at the Albany Rural Cemetery in Albany, NY. In lieu of flowers, Jackie has requested that a donation be made to your local animal shelter, or to the World Wildlife Fund. You may also consider making a donation to the shelter at which she volunteered, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, NY.

Sincerely,

Greg, Thomas, and Tim

Jackie was such an upbeat, positive person, who spread joy by her presence.  I feel so sorry for her family to deal with her loss, as I am sure she enriched their lives immensely.  Sending wishes for their peace and for strength as they deal with her loss.
