DURANGO, Iowa — Kent “Leaky” Roebken, 73, of Durango, died Monday, October 2, 2023, at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Kent will be 10:30 am Friday, October 6, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rickardsville with Father Tyler Raymond as the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rickardsville.

Kent was born April 14, 1950, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Robert and Ann McMillin Roebken. On September 11, 1971, he married Judy A. Weidemann at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rickardsville.  He was a 1968 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School. He was a proud union plumber for Local #66/#125 and worked at Curtis-Straub Co. for 35 years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rickardsville and spent many years making the best pork for the annual church picnic.  He was an active member of the Balltown Lions Club. He enjoyed calling around for auction items and taking part in the steak dinners.  He was a jokester at heart and loved making his grandkids and kids laugh. If not on the phone, then leaving goofy messages that they will hold on to forever. In 52 years of marriage, he never missed a birthday or anniversary.

Kent enjoyed telling how things “used to be.”  He never hesitated to share the joke of the day with anyone who would listen and enjoyed discussions about John Deere tractors. Kent had his very own way of making a short story long and always loved a good game of euchre.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two sons, Chad Roebken and Doug (Kris) Roebken, both of Durango; two daughters, Kris (Troy) Wright and April (Randy) Hall, both of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Brett Koehn, Tanner and Colton Roebken, Kellen and Reed Strohmeyer, Isaac, Delanie, Addison, and Beckett Wright, and Derrek and Damion Hall; his in-laws, Jim (Char) Weidemann of Dubuque, IA, Joan (Rick) Herbst of Durango, Rick (Sharon) Weidemann of Sherrill, and Rhonda (Pat) Coleman of Peosta; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father- and mother-in-law, Merlyn and Patricia Weidemann.

The family thanks the ICU staff at Finley Hospital, Dr. Ron Schope for the many years of care and Dr.Schreiber and Dr. Powers.
