John Melloy and I were good friends.  Ice skating in winter, buying each other a book for Christmas, just hanging out and discussing anything and everything.  As we grew older (6th & 7th grade) we grew too busy to see each other, and during high school we lost touch. He went to Loras, I went into the Navy.  Then I heard he'd joined the Army, went to Nam and was killed.  Wow.  How sad.   10 years later, a replica of "the wall" was in Honolulu, and I went down to see it.

I found his name, put my hand on it, and that's when it hit me.  I cried for an hour.  Good Bye, my friend.  God, I miss you.

Jim, that was such a moving post about John Melloy.  Thank you for sharing it.  I saw his name on the

Wall in Washington and on a travelling Wall that came here.  Brought tears to my eyes.

We all have such fond memories of our deceased friends from St. Anthony. I still think of Caroline every once in a while. She was so funny and a little lonely too, I thought. I remember a special birthday party at Jeannie's house and how sweet her Mom was. There also was a girls' party at Anne's one time in her back yard and we were singing " it's my Party and I'll cry if I want to." I put my hand on John's name on the Wall in Washington DC and wrote a message in the book. I mention him often when the War comes up in conversation, and say that it was such a tragedy.

A week after our reunion I want to thank a few people...Thank you Marlys for your dedication, perseverance and leadership...it wouldn't have happened without you!  Thanks to Linda, Lenny and Gary and Karlyn for their persistent search for our 'lost' classmates...many would not have been found without their work.  Thanks to Dianne and Diane for their brilliance in securing, arranging and paying for our venue....they were the money bags...thanks to Dianne Roche's son and husband for our music.  Thanks to Paul Gavin and Mags Young and any spouse who were the 'official' photographers.

Thanks to Marjorie and Peg for making the long journey back, back here and into the past.  Thanks to all our former teachers who were able to attend and make our night even more special....that was a brief moment in time with all of us together again which will never happen again.

Thank you to all the classmates who came from so far and some not so far.......we enjoyed seeing you and your significant other....after all these years.

To those classmates who were not able to come for various reasons we missed you and hope to see you at the next one whether next year or 25 years from now.

Sounds like the reunion was terrific.  Despite not being able to make it back, I really appreciate all the work that so many put into finding so many of the class and re-connecting us, if only vicariously in some cases. Best regards to all and proud to be a classmate!!

Jim Erhart will be visiting family in Dubuque the first week in November.  There will be a party on Friday night the 6th, and I will be doing a few songs on guitar after dinner.  Anyone is invited.  Let me know @

jimerhart@hawaiiantel.net

Basically, Marlys and some of the girls want to visit with me, and I with everyone (as I missed the reunion).

We're looking to get a private room at The Bridge on Locus, The Point on Phomberg (by Eagle Point), or ...

I leave Honolulu Oct. 27th for a Halloween wedding in Minnesota, and would like to have a head count by the week-end before.
