Did civil engineering at UND. Then spent 3 years in the UK and travelling in Europe and the US. Met Trish, an Australian, in London. We travelled overland through Europe and Africa by public transport and lived in Cape Town for 2 years. We got married there. Have lived in Sydney, Australia since 1977.

Initially worked as a civil engineer in construction and as a consultant. For the last 39 years have worked as a traffic engineering/transport planning consultant. Established a consultant practice with a partner in 1994. This developed with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and about 45 staff. Sold the business to UK consultant Halcrow in 2008. Retired from full time work in 2011 and worked part time till 2014 after which took on a limited advisory role.

DHS in 1964 to 66. Before that spent 4 years in the US.
