In Memory
I received the following message from Jonnie's wife Margaret today:
Jonathan Dawn July 18, 1948 - July 5, 2024 Jonathan Dawn lived a life of humility and dedication to others, driven by his deep faith in Christ. Born in Nebobongo, Congo, his family later moved to South Africa where he excelled in athletics, earning a scholarship to Seattle Pacific University. He met his future wife, Margaret Hart, while they were both teaching at a High School in Kirkland, Washington. Jonathan and Margaret spent 20 years in Kenya with Africa Inland Mission, developing the TIMO program to train new missionaries. He later earned a PhD in Educational Anthropology and taught at Trinity Western University for 25 years, inspiring many students towards missions. Deeply involved in their community, they ran an ESL Bible study for new immigrants to Canada for over 20 years. In 2023, they moved to Penticton to be closer to their grandchildren. Jonathan's life, marked by love, faith, and service, left a lasting impact on countless lives. He faced his final days with grace, supported by his family and friends. link to Livestream of Memorial Service Link for J’s memorial https://www.youtube.com/live/bNGVwomHHNo?si=TB-d7T4qMVCwUnLI

Jonathan and I were at DPHS and DHS together. We became good friends. I was always intrigued by Jonnie's family story, and he was somewhat "exotic" because of his accent. I was very sad to hear of his passing and having lost contact with him after leaving school, I was very impressed to learn of his amazing work through the years. With condolences to the family, I would like to end with this epithet from my faith (Jewish), which seems very apt for Jonnie: "May his memory be for a blessing" - Larry Butchins, Israel.

Jonnie and I only really passed each other in the corridors or on the grounds of the school - we were on friendly greeting terms, but I was too slow on the athletic field to get to know him better than I did. Reading his history has made me realise what a wonderful time he had on planet earth and how much he contributed to society through his faith. He set a fine example for many people. I wish his family well and the strength they need in the days and weeks ahead.

The previous link I posted for Jonnie's Memorial Service missed the start. This is another link which contains the whole service:
