I skipped college altogether and went right to work at the Exeter News-Letter, which catapulted me to the the (now defunct) Portsmouth Press, all the way to Deming, N.M., back to Portsmouth to work at The Herald. I left New England for North Carolina after I got married in '99 to start a freelance career. I parlayed that into a staff job at the Christian Science Monitor in 2005, necessitating a move to Atlanta, where I'm now their Southern correspondent. (Yes, it's too hot down here!) Got married in '99 and now have a 2-1/2 year-old named Jake. We live in a little bungalow near downtown.
